This kid has some serious shortcomings most people don't know or don't want to know about.
In today's over exposed game where there are more journalists in football than politics there is no room to hide.
Every club is looking for kids who can play footy. All of them have seen him play and know all about him.
None have drafted him thus far..... doubt any will for a couple of years.

Re: Dayle Garlett
Took a punt on another player with a long case of attitude problems... his name was Lovett... Pass
We passed on Cousins becayse of attitude and drug problems, then we decided to go against the grain and picked up Lovett.... Did not end well...
Garlett will go for a very late late pick imo... His talent is extremely overrated... maybe a top 15-30 pick if it wasn't for his attitude..

Re: Dayle Garlett
I know, while I hate reading the dispicable deeds our guys have in the past, we continue to look at the talent the player brings to match the holes in our list. I thought garlett was worth the punt as was Darling, I remember another WA player we took a punt on & that turned out reasonable - Gardiner and he was in a world of messgringo wrote:Old Mate wrote:Seriously the bloke has links to underground mafia types and bikies. Plenty of teams do too. They infiltrate clubs. The Pies do, the most famous man to play for the Roos in the 1990s did, Ablett snr and even everyones favourite golden boy who ironically has had his team identified as drug cheats due to the links with criminal bike gangs and organised crims. Some even sit on boards of clubs.
Get the Garlett. He's a long way from the bad influences.

Given the Lovett recruitment.
Liam Jurrah had more talent than anyone, think Stkfc will stick to the formula of recruiting guys who are not D...k heads.
If the Dees were aiming for finals spots year after year, do you reckon Jurrah would have gone off the rails?
I think there's more risk when a team like Melbourne/Doggies/Saints is rebuilding and losing more than winning does tend to distract.

I reckon if Melbourne were aiming for the finals it would have made no difference to Liam Jurrah. it was a family issue. Nothing was stopping that issue.

Re: Dayle Garlett
Ok say Stk recruit him plays here for 2 years goes to back WA. Lost all the development there are at least 15 players that are more viable is this years draft.
They want guys to stay Long term they building for 10year cycle .
Glad to be wrong but think no risk will apply to our recruiters.

Re: Dayle Garlett
Without risk (courage) rewards can be missed...
The stupidity of ALL clubs was completely evident on the passing on Jack Darling.... We for one, took a soft c**k with average ability over a power fwd who had dominated a championships as a bottom ager, played senior footy as a 17yo in the WAFL and in his first two seasons has been a regular and key player in a top team.
There is no doubt you should take no risks with early picks.... Most kids in that area need to be blue chip
But picks after 60 are speculative
There is no such thing as a 'safe' pick from then on.... This is where you look for a steal, or a diamond in the rough..
The only risk is if the kid gets delisted
It happens if the kids no good anyway?.....which they normally aren't
Picks 60+
Gwilt, Raymond, Johnson, Sweeney, J.Smith, A.Smith, Siposs, Gehrig, Pattoson, Ferguson, Begley, Callaghan and others
Many misses there.... They were all risks. Mostly because they were a long shot to even make the grade.....

Although it would have to be along the lines of...
Hindsight, blah, blah
Why did other clubs pass.... Blah, blah
We made the right decision, because we knew best... Blah, blah
Some personal discrediting, blah, blah
It would be predictable dribble..... How's the 'always right' club going know? On the nose methinks?!
Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn.... What's the difference
They made more good decisions than bad.... Hence, wheel run

Re: Dayle Garlett
Id take him but later pick option only.....
Is he a "hit and miss" type player?
Can he go into the midfield?
or fwd goal sneak?

Re: Dayle Garlett
He is unbelievably skilled and a top 5 draft pick type of potential. Sydney didn't mind Nick Davis after they got their premiership. Luke Ball was chosen over Judd because of his awesome character- served us well.

Re: Dayle Garlett
He is averaging 20 touches and two goals a game in the WAFL.
Clubs will see his upside if he remains out of trouble for the rest of the year.
Maybe he and his new girlfriend can have a baby and come to us ala Roberton.
Kids always make you grow up faster and that seems to be what this bloke needs.

Re: Dayle Garlett
He can bring great harm.
The game is different today.
One player won't make a difference in results but can in setting a club back years.

Dayle Garlett
So 18 clubs were all wrong not to pick him last time.
The guy arrived at Essendon preseason last year says he hates team meetings , he is going to get a lot of them in a AFL footy career.
Not the smartest thing to do.
Someone will pick him up personally doubt Elshaugh Bains Pelchen will.
Not if you listen to the comments of Elshaugh "we recruited this guy because of his character " and if you listen to Geelong Stephen Wells the same tune .
The Saints have already taken a risk hence the " Tom Lee " recruitment but based on long term thinking.
Might not get them all right but hard to argue the recruits of this year appear to be the right type going forward.

Re: Dayle Garlett
Someone will pick up Dayle - but youd think it will be a stronger club.
Wouldnt be surprised to see him at the Hawks or Cats or Pies.
Weaker clubs have too much to lose and crumble when something goes wrong as the media jump on their backs.
But if he works out - then the strong clubs will just get stronger.

Re: Dayle Garlett
St.kilda had every chance to get Jack Darling when he was available and st.kilda did want him, but due to off field issues as advised from collingwood and there private investigators they advised st.kilda to not go for him. Look what we missed out on.
Take the chance and get this kid.

Weren't the "Collingwood PIs" involved in the potential drafting of Cousins and not Darling?Ajantis wrote:St.kilda had every chance to get Jack Darling when he was available and st.kilda did want him, but due to off field issues as advised from collingwood and there private investigators they advised st.kilda to not go for him. Re: Dayle Garlett
I am fairly certain the Pies PI's were doing their due diligence on Cousins. Darling just had bad press after being beaten up at a night club in Subiaco and his "bad-boy" image put a lot of teams off. We were understandably wary after the Lovett fiasco.Dr Spaceman wrote:Weren't the "Collingwood PIs" involved in the potential drafting of Cousins and not Darling?Ajantis wrote:St.kilda had every chance to get Jack Darling when he was available and st.kilda did want him, but due to off field issues as advised from collingwood and there private investigators they advised st.kilda to not go for him.
