Stupid thing to say by Eddie. Was a racist comment for sure but i actually dont think he is racist. He is an idiot and racist on this occasion. I hope those who think it is alright to call black people apes arent now upset becuse it was Ed. Expect some consistancy there.

Re: Adam Goodes should promote the King Kong musical
We need to take Eddie out of it for a second. Did Adam Goodes, Harry O'Brien and others take offence to what was said/infered? The answer is YES, and it is THAT that makes it a racist comment. I agree that it was dumb, stupid and a c**k up. What I'm trying to get across is that there can be a MASSIVE difference between a Racist Comment and a Racist Person !!joffaboy wrote:When?Eastern wrote:Is Eddie McGuire a racist? Did Eddie McGuire make a racist comment? Definitely YES
!!
Not today in my opinion. He made a comment on the PR industry and what would have happened in the old days. What he should have done was not associate last Saturdays ape furore with King Kong.
It was a dumb stupid association and he cocked up badly. I dont think it was a racist remark at all in a direct sense, the observation was more in line with "the PR industry is so dumb they would try to get Adam Goodes to promote King Kong after last weeks racism row".
it is certainly associated with the racism ape comment, but I dont think racist in itself. Just a dumb thoughtless, stupid mistake that will re-ignite the ape race debate.
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

What about the other way around. Upset over someone calling an aboriginal player an ape but not really upset over McGuire making a stupid dumb mistake and association and flaring the issue up again?

Each to there own. I am not that upset with Eddie but i think the comment was racist but i also dont think Eddie is racist. I think he was an idiot today.

Playing devils advocate here for a moment, and I am not saying this happened in this case, would a comment be construed as racist if someone who had been subjected to discrimination because of their race or skin colour got upset by the content even if there was absolutely no way it could be construed as racist.
For example if Kraouker got upset at the Saints supporter who sledged him about his assault conviction and tweeted that it was racist, in your eyes it would be even if there was nothing at all to do with his race?

Re: Adam Goodes should promote the King Kong musical
I think his intent here is not only unknowable, but irrelevant.
What was rex's intent when he said neon leon was as black as a dog's guts?... Or mal brown when he called indigenous teammates the cannibals?... Or McAllister when he said 'as long as they behave like white people'?... What about the 13 year old?
Who knows, who cares.
The publicly articulated association is utterly appalling and totally out of order, and as it was made in public should be condemned wholeheartedly in public, by the public.
And Ed is an absolute hypocrite.

Ok Joffa so you have a go at me for going over the top (in my one post that you broke down into 4), yet you want to ban a 13 year old girl, for life I presume, and claim to know for sure that she meant Ape in a racist sense??
Irrespective of if she did or didn't, it is a racist remark and hopefully a % of the public can learn from a young girls mistake... The reason why this has become an Eddie debate is because he has pretty much undone all the good work he did immediately after, and what Goodes and the AFL did in the following days, by saying it's ok to joke about it, just dont use it as abuse...

Joffa, I have been thinking about the Krakour incident. There is NO WAY that anyone could/should interpret that as racist. Yes, it can be seen as offensive, but NOT racist !!

Agree with all of this.markp wrote:

Does that make what he said racist? I tend to think not.
Personally I tend to believe it was a terrible arrogant misjudgement that would, even by association, have opened up Goodes's wound rom Friday night.
It was dumb and unpardonable. McGuire has made an unconditional apology and is not deflecting or making excuses.
He should know better and that is the point. Not that he is a racist or even the comment was racist. McGuire is in a position of responsibility, as a broadcaster and as the president of the largest AFL club in the land.
I just think the lynch mob mentality over this is way out of hand.

Re: Adam Goodes should promote the King Kong musical
What staggers me is that any filth Neanderthal can make any derogatory comment regarding how far along the evolutionary scale someone else is.
The simple fact is that all are much further along than any of them are.
In regards to Eddie, he needs to be quarantined, another case of foot in mouth disease, idiotic and uncalled for.
You can make excuses for a 13 year old, but for a person in Eddie's position, just that filth Neanderthal brain at work.
As for King Kong, I've got tickets for July 6, looking forward to it, though I am told it may be a good idea to get out of theatre when Carl Denham calls for the press to take some pictures of Kong and Miss Darrow.
Wonder if the producers thought of hiring the Filth cheer squad to play the role of the uncivilised natives on Kong's island.
Can just see Joffa as the chief saying "Kong imbala Kong!"

I think you should re-read the post then. Said neither of those thingsSobraz wrote:Ok Joffa so you have a go at me for going over the top (in my one post that you broke down into 4), yet you want to ban a 13 year old girl, for life I presume, and claim to know for sure that she meant Ape in a racist sense??
sureSobraz wrote:Irrespective of if she did or didn't, it is a racist remark and hopefully a % of the public can learn from a young girls mistake...
Dont think McGire said it was OK to joke about it. he was make a rather tawdry observation about the PR industry and didn't stop his mouth from running away with it.Sobraz wrote:The reason why this has become an Eddie debate is because he has pretty much undone all the good work he did immediately after, and what Goodes and the AFL did in the following days, by saying it's ok to joke about it, just dont use it as abuse...
But the biggest issue is that it has re-ignited the racist ape comment, which would horrify McGuire and upset Goodes.

Collingwood has a poor track record and this is just another little saga to add to the Collingwood scrapbook of misdemeanours . Alan Macellester ring a bell?
anyway Maguire is a modern day Houdini and it will interesting to see how he pulls himself out of this one, mind you it will not help him in the future when he has to tackle another racist incident at his club which is, I believe inevitable.

Goodes hasn't accepted Eddie's apology and even better Harry O has turned on his prez.

Like St.Pav said, he's out of his depth. SP doesn't actually get the point about thinking racist thoughts. He just doesn't have awareness about it. What to do?
In his case, carry on as before with a bit of shyte stirring thrown in.

Here's a surprise.
Chan 9 news at 6pm devoted the first 2 mins to "Eddie's brain fade"
and included Dimwit giving support to Eddie.
Chan 7 gave it the first 5 mins and presented Eddie in a much less favourable light.

On a side issue, I have just become a Grandad, mom son and baby all good and at home, they came from hospital with a baby pack containing all the all the things you would expect in it but get this....there was a cardboard cutout of a Collingwood jumper with a note attached on how to get a baby membership. My son of course tore it up immediately and binned it but what a fantastic recruiting ploy. No wonder the bogun empire is expanding at such a rate

Re: Adam Goodes should promote the King Kong musical
They're talking about extreme publicity for KING KONG.
Eddie hunts through his weary brain for some topical connection. First things that pops up is Adam Goodes. Tries to be funny, edgy. A comment more on the publicity machine than anything.
Doesn't work. Eddie tries to "walk it back" but only makes it worse.
Eddie deserves some flak but I too am worried that too much opprobrium will only give fuel to the anti-PC brigade. Already I can see an apologetic Eddie on THE FOOTY SHOW with Sam Newman beside him simmering with righteous indignation.
