Thought you meant Riewoldt and Sam Gilbert for a second. Now that would be interesting on Open Mike

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Great tv, Nicky, in particular answered some hard questions which was really interesting. Nice to see some feel good Saints stuff given we no longer get to see much of that on gameday.
It's a shame ignorance isn't painful

That enormous speckie from 1987 is the first highlight!! The one that is elusive and hard to find. I remember seeing the next day of The Winners. Huge grab

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Was pretty disappointed with Mike Sheahan no depth in questions was boring, no asking about their child life, all about " race " angle which had been already done for 3 days.
Could have asked a lot more , to me Sheahan lacked total research on what he was going to ask them.

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Wow, wonderful viewing. Was tearing up at times, especially the GF bit.
Love Gilly's voice, I listen to him on 98.9 FM sometimes, calling games. He sounds like my wife's dad actually, a real country guy still.
It was funny hearing Gilly and Cuz talk about playing against other indigenous players - when I played in Cairns years ago, if there was a star black guy on the opposing team, we would put one of our black guys on him, as they would never mark each other ( they felt uncomfortable doing that) so both would play wide of each other and have no real effect.
Unreal to think of how privileged we are as Saints fans to have seen Nicky play with Plugger and Banger. Simply awesome.

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Looking back over those highlights was incredible. How did we not win a flag 1991-3, when those two excitement machines were running amock alongside Harvey and Burke and in front of Loewe and plugger? Another missed opportunity. Didn't even make a GF in that time. Only at St.Kilda, I'm afraid.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Proud that these guys played for us and are still Sainters through and through.

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
So the rest of the comp was just going to gift us a flag because we had 6 superstars were they?
Hello Sheedy's Bombers and salary cap cheats in Carlton...hello a team down sleepy hollow way who was close to one the most talented and balanced teams going round and a bloke by the name of Ablett running round for 'em...AND let's not forget - Hello big muscly blokes from WA who could run all day and could inject anything they wanted to legally

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Never asked for any favours. Still underachieved. So many stars, so little to show for it. No side had the key forwards we had. And their primes coincided. A midfield to die for and a strong and experienced defence. On paper, the equal of anyone at that time.Scollop wrote:So the rest of the comp was just going to gift us a flag because we had 6 superstars were they?

Just love Nicky, it's such a horrible shame his life has been one tragedy after another. His brilliance and courage on the field was just incredible. I hope our club looks after him

1 v 2, 3 v 4, 5 v 6.
No second chance for third place.
We were riped off by the system and by G Ablett being a thug.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. The system was even worse the following year and it worked in our favour if i remember rightly. 3rd played 6th and again no second chance for 3rd. We finished 6th and beat the pies but alas again werent good enough and lost to the dogs the following week.

Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
Don't you love it when these 2 people can use negativity and adversity and turn it into a positive not only did they singlehandedly beat the pies that day they changed the game for ever with a powerful instinctual gesture.
Eddie must have been squirming at the many references to the racist feral pies supporters during the interview especially with the current incident nothing much has changed there unfortunately for collingwood .

Yeah cheers mc, have seen that. But it's great to see the better vision of it in the mike show! Imagine that mark taken now! Re: Nicky and Gilbert - Open Mike
A great watch - good to see Nicky is recovering well
I have so many great memories of watching Nicky in full flight at Moorabbin, taking a great mark, making a game changing tackle, passing to plugger or kicking a long range goal on the run.
When you look at the video highlights it reminds you of His ability to will himself into contests and shows just how talented a player he was.
The thing that strikes me is that Nicky is and always be a StKilda man through and through. Whenever he crossed that line he gave his all.
Apart from losing Lazar and Spider in the 97 finals series it was such a tragedy that Nicky lost his father the night befpre the game. Whilst it would have been tough to win it would have been great to see Nicky in full flight on the last day in September.
Long live a great StKilda man and someone who hopefully has inspired some of the current St Kilda group
