Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??
Rooy marks the footy within a minute to go and he controlled the ball -which was knocked out of his hands a split second after he controlled it...adding salt to his wounds he also copped an accidental knock to the head, and gets concussed.
Did the doggies player go for the footy or did he go for the man?? Was he negligent in making head high contact and did he have a duty of care to try avoid the contact if he was late in getting there?
...when the footy is taken from someone's hands it is not play on...it is a fricken mark!!!! The Dog's player was not not going for the ball was he? He did not get a clear punch on the footy did he?

Re: Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??
I replayed it a few times and it was a clenched fist to the face that did the damage. It wasn't intentional but it sure as hell should have been a mark and 50m penalty. The Bulldogs player didn't set out to hit him in the face, but he didn't do much to avoid it either.

I was at the game in front of it- absolutely shitly umpired game all round. Not just our way but both. C grade teams get C grades umps. The obvious ones went un punished and stupid soft ones were often paid.

Yep, couldnt have summed it up better.gringo wrote:I was at the game in front of it- absolutely shitly umpired game all round. Not just our way but both. C grade teams get C grades umps. The obvious ones went un punished and stupid soft ones were often paid.
Just sat there shaking my head time and again......multiple 50's, obvious free's both sides not paid, pedantic ones plucked out of nowehere.
Im not sure what the final goals from free stats were but this game was THE worst umpired game Ive seen in 2 years...(and theres been some contenders)
We are not getting better as a sport in this area. The people who run have failed time and again, its time for change.
Not to mention the RIDICULOUS 50 Meter penalties for oppsotion players deemed to close to a player who receives a free - sure, if they impede the person with the free kick by all means pay it........but when they are following their man near the area but NOT interfering with play...........just let it go FFS.
Common sense.

Yes, but when there is no opposition player within cooee and CJ sticks his arms in the air to give himself away, what do you expect the umpire to do?Teflon wrote:Yep, couldnt have summed it up better.gringo wrote:I was at the game in front of it- absolutely shitly umpired game all round. The umpires were pretty good today.

Either that or trying to be funny.
I could pick out 10 mistakes, mistakes based on ability (or guessing) not missed frees or didn't see it excuses.

Re: Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??
His arms were chopped but the umpire was on the other side. Both of the other two umpires had their heads up their arses so didn't see it either. On the other hand, it is a lot more difficult to umpire teams whose skills are woeful. Running to position, only to see the ball go thirty metres in the opposite direction to the anticipated, can be a bit tricky.gringo wrote:The one where Maister appeared to mark then get chopped then a mystery free the other way turned the game IMO.

I am serious and I could pick at least 20 mistakes every game of every week, but I still reckon they were pretty good today.maverick wrote:

They were disgraceful for both sides today.
Thought some of the pedantic ones pulled out against the Dogs qtr2 were laughable really.
Terrible tonight.

Well I've finished watching the game again and the umpires were still pretty good. They had no real impact on the game, which is as it should be.

A bunch of us were at the game this evening (including a couple of hawks supporters) they were in shock by the umps. We worked out that the umps cost us between 30-40 points! It was mind boggling tonight how bad they were.
Re: Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??
Out of everything i have ever read about the saints this may be the most one eyed ever. Both went for the mark and it was just a simple accident. I wonder if people can actually watch footy through two eyes. I thought this may come up but then i thought no one could be that biased. No mark, play one and 100% fair.
Re: Was Roo knocked out by a late hit??
Gwilt Free against.....Goal against
Riewoldt non free.... No goal
Gwilt Free against...... Goal against
Went from two goals up, to one goal down in 2 minutes all from mistakes..
Riewoldt decision was strange.... But not the only one

Right, so you can go for the mark and if you punch someone in the head by accident there's no penalty - because you were going for the mark ???plugger66 wrote:Out of everything i have ever read about the saints this may be the most one eyed ever. He didnt though. He was also trying to mark it. i cannot beleive people actually think it was anything more than a pure accident.

The rule is not about intent it is about not making contact above the shoulders.

Agree with P66, both going for the mark, contact part of the act of marking. No different to driving a knee fair square into the back of someone's head, taking mark of the year, winning a car whilst the stepladder that was used has blood pouring from the back of his head.

Pretty much a direct 12 point turnaround from memory.gringo wrote:The one where Maister appeared to mark then get chopped then a mystery free the other way turned the game IMO.
5 minutes later scores were level again.

Head high contact in a making contest is illegal. Pretty simple. Forget the fact the mark should have been payed. It was, and always should be a free kick. Whether it was an accident or not is about as relevant as what I had for breakfast.

Explain then why you can knee someone in the back of the head whilst taking a mark? Or flying for a chest mark and your should makes contact with another player trying to take an identical mark? It is not illegal, simply subjective to interpretation. BTW, what did you have for breakfast?
