Whose Up For A Clearance
Anyone?
Let me guess..... we are rebuilding and played a more senior side with experience ??? Cause a midfield containing Dal Santo, Montagna, Hayes, Steven and Jones is inexperienced??
Nup
It was all the umpires fault??
Nup
The umpires are rebuilding??
Nup
Maybe....just maybe..... We don't have the right set ups? The right talent sitting in the coaching box??
I think Watters is a developer who NEEDS help tactically and we aren't helping him
What a disgraceful performance.

Tommy Ledger needs to come in. Clearance king. Yes we've all heard about disposal blah blah...but C Jones seems to get games.

Yes Watters isn't a master coach by a million miles.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

It's not the coaches box
Ben isn't a tap ruckman and played v someone who is.
Tap to advantage and dogs goal, was hard to watch

Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
I think this is a ruck problem to be honest. McEvoy has always been poor with hitouts to advantage, so right away the midfielders have an uphill task.
If their job is to rove off the opposition ruckman, why bother having a ruckman at all.
It's an area where McEvoy needs to improve. Just one area that's obvious from TV is that he never times his jump well.

I don't think bens ever gonna be a tap ruck

Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
Ben's biggest problem is that for a big guy he has absolutely no physical presence with the contest.

Ben tells them what he's going to do and then his opponent does what he was going to do
Would rather the guys position to apply pressure and tackles
Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
Either way, McEvoy is the best we've got. Let's just hope that in a few years time when the current dominant rucks have retired, McEvoy by default becomes one of the premier rucks in the league.

If thats so it will be up the coaches to fix it - its their problem.SainterK wrote:Teflon wrote:DisagreeSainterK wrote:It's not the coaches box

No side can continue to give away the ball out of the middle like we do. Even when we do get a clearance as someone else on here pointed out and it was obvious tonight......its a scrambled, shanked, mongrel scrub forward with no purpose.
BIG PROBLEM this one.

Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
The only time we looked like getting it away was when Tom Hickey was in the centre. Ben was slaughtered and has been, in the ruck, all year. He can't jump at all so is never going to improve.

Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
I'll sound like GT here, but ruckman are a waste of time if they can't ruck!
In 2004 we had crap ruckmen, pretty much just Knobel with a side of Blake and Kosi. Rubbish hitouts.
BUT we were awesome with the clearances with Harvey, Hayes, Thompson and Powell.
Our guys should be playing every ruck contest like we'll lose it. Much improvement will come.

Saad Milera dreaded second year blues IMO
Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
It's not second year blues K.
Saad is not clean enough but he has a physical presence. Milera has probably got the cleanest or one of the cleanest skill sets in the league - with absolutely no physical presence. That means that unfortuntely Milera will probably not make it at this level, at least not consistently. Saad can IF he improves his hands. If he can get the ball the first grab rather than fumbling it 3 times - then we have a player.

If they are going to persist with 2 rucks, why isn't he played forward and hickey in the ruck?Teflon wrote:THATS the dilemma I was praying we could avoid..........but McEvoy cant ruck..its frightening, I hate it but its becoming clear..........we just cant get first hands tof the ball.Munga wrote:I'll sound like GT here, but ruckman are a waste of time if they can't ruck!

Re: Whose Up For A Clearance
They did that, but Ben was hopeless on the rebound. Ben's best work is reading the play in the back half. Alas, you can't sub defence for offence whilst the ball is in play.SainterK wrote:...If they are going to persist with 2 rucks, why isn't he played forward and hickey in the ruck?

The question is: Can you carry a ruckman who cant win a tap out to advantage?????????????????????????
Around the ground is one thing...........the game starts in the middle and how often do we see one quick out of their and an opposition goal??
tough question this given his age.
