Is that all?
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.
Re: Wright to miss 1 - 2 weeks with Fractured jaw
Just about best case scenario. Let's hope they aren't playing games with the injury list again.
Re: Wright to miss 1 - 2 weeks with Fractured jaw
sounds good, needs as many games as possible this season

Didn't Newnes get his broken by Brogan in Round 3 against GWS and was back a couple of weeks later?

Re: Wright to miss 1 - 2 weeks with Fractured jaw
Was thinking the same. It would have to be incredibly hard for a first year player to play all 22 games. Would need a spell at some stage you would think. having said that, he looks liked he's been playing for 5 years.jonesy wrote:Not the worst result if so. Give's him a bit of a freshen up anyhow

Might do him well having a week or two off after six straight games. Come back ready to rock n roll.
Having said that, Wright seems the kind of guy that would play through anything rain, hail or shine.

For most first year players I agree - but considering he covered 17.5 km in his debut AFL match - I think he already has the tank & work-rate of a veteran. Gun. Glad he'll only miss a couple.

Back in my day, he would be playing next week with a bit of bandage wrapped around his jaw to keep it in place

He's not a softcock type.
It's a bad thing, nothing good about anyone getting their jaw broken by a sniper turd.
It also damages our chances of beating Adelaide.
Wright has made the most promising debut of any Saints player for about 10 years.

Weak as water, when I played if you broke your jaw the coach would just say "Run it off Son". And then give you a woodbine at the break.spert wrote:Back in my day, he would be playing next week with a bit of bandage wrapped around his jaw to keep it in place

Re: Wright to miss 1 - 2 weeks with Fractured jaw
Very disappointed to see Nathan get such a damaging 'hit' so early in his playing career. I would have liked to see him raise his elbow for Betts charing in late and playing the man. It was easier for Betts to do what he did as Wright only had eyes for the ball. Nathan is good to watch as he settles into the St.Kilda defence and i'll miss him as he's been forced onto the sidelines till he gets over the Betts hit.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

What would happen if Wright held his elbow up to face to prevent the contact, and Betts ran in to it breaking his jaw?
Would Wright get weeks for the elbow? Betts for charging?

He was copping Wright stuff. He's going to be a star IMO. Love watching him play.

Re: Wright to miss 1 - 2 weeks with Fractured jaw
Huge rap for the kid. His coaches are getting him to concentrate on the defensive side early, yet he still does an enormous amount of support running if we've got the pill. The 17.5K figure mentioned earlier doesn't surprise. It was the NAB Cup game vs Sydney - he played a lot of game time for a junior burger, yet he was running better than just about everybody late. And, it was warm.
Coupla handballs were a little untidy on Monday night, but his effort overwhelms any criticism. But, the kick to Rooey's advantage after he'd run from deep to back up and receive was what we'll see more and more of from the young bloke. He just tries so damn hard, you know with a little experience will come the composure. He tackles like he means it - a couple of his tackles on Monday were technically superb and full of intent. And, he sat Cloke on his freckle v Pies when he had little momentum when Cloke barged into him. And, we haven't seen him attack the ball in the air yet, which he can do with aplomb.
Unlike some who see advantage in him having a coupla weeks off, I'm disappointed for the kid. It's rare these days for a kid to do well from the get go in his first year, and Nathan was doing better than well. He's rarely beaten in 1 in 1's, and does all the right team things. His hands are good, he's a quick, strong runner with good endurance and he looks like he's got a footy brain. And, he's driven.
The kid will be a star. Whoever it was earlier who opined Wright's start is a 10 year rarity for us is close. Very few kids start this well these days.
I also read someone else mention a comparison between Gram's game and Wright's. I'll just say Nathan Wright is already a lot of things Jason Gram never was. That's not a criticism of Gram, just a recognition this kid has a game that already looks better rounded than Gram's, without being shy of Gram's attacking strength.
A way to go, but it's hard not to be excited about what may be. Just love seeing talented kids develop.

God post as usual ToT. Spewing he's out but I was just putting a positive spin on his injury, if there is indeed one.
