Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

I was there too!
EDIT.. call me old hat, but I reckon the Saints and the AFL should redevelop Junction Oval and we should go back to our spiritual home.

Yep I was there. Laughed when I saw someone with a big clump of grass. That night at the disco there where so many people with clumps in their pockets..... not the usual clumps in the pocket that were at the disco

I was there, it was hard to say goodbye to Moorabbin and move out to that far off neverland called AFL park.
In some ways we lost our soul when we left Moorabbin, although Barks4eva will argue we lost our soul when we left the Junction Oval.

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
Stewie Loewe torp to ice a game that we looked like losing against the Royboys if my memories are correct. I was one of the patrons with a clump of grass up in the disco. Can't remember what actually happened to it. Think I planted it into mum and dads back lawn. Used to work at the disco behind the bar and collecting glasses for one season. Can't remember what year it was, not the final year though. Some amazing nights at Moorabbin. What a place.
Thursday night training with the meat raffle and the announcement of the team was also a good night. Never too many around, but the beer was cold and cheap.

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
l was there.
Took a Sod from the South road goalsquare.
Planted the sod in a pot , then a bigger pot .......etc etc and it kept on growing.
Ended up planting the back lawn at my parents place with it.
Took a few years for it to spread but its still there. Probably a good 10 square meters of it.
Looks great.

Is that why that area of your parents lawn is always wet and boggy - even in the middle of summer?bigred wrote:l was there.

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
Very sad day.
Got there early in the Reserves and did a lap of the ground past all the haunts.
Took my sod from in front of The Animal Pit and filled a plastic bag full of gravel from the pit.

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
I was there in my Reserved seat in Bay 6, sitting directly behind Justice David Ashley who once asked me why I called Russell Morris Nancy Boy....hilarious.
I never went to the Saints disco, I did go to the Social club upstairs once and watched Babba, people used to walk out the door to the Huggins stand and have a smoke..
Babba, no wonder they closed that room.....

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
Thanks 3GS...moistens the eyes.......I envy those of you who were there.....hopefully one day soon we will be a rich and powerful club and in a position to say that we WANT and CAN go to our spiritual home....after watching the passion in that I feel that we are in exile....the barrier between staying where we are and returning to the "promised land" is money.......so keep on trying to maintain your membership....and support any sainter groups who may pop up and work on taking us back home.....3rd generation saint wrote:Don't know if this has ever been posted, but a short video of the last game at Moorabbin.

Re: Last Day at Moorabbin
For us younger supporters, can someone please explain the disco. I have tried googling it to no prevail.
Was it a nightclub at moorabbin where fans and players mingled? Was it generally packed? Many fights? Hot women? Tell me everything! I wish I was around for it.

Saints disco was every Friday night for about 15 years. Started as an over 23 disco but it was easy to get into even when you were only 18. it was open to 3am. It then got changed to over 18 and was open till 5am. Some players would go in summer like Roberts, Barker, GT and a few more. the problem was a few seemed to go in winter as well. Eventually like all discos it dropped off so they moved it to home games on Saturday nights and it would be packed. Lots of players there as well. As the game got a little more professional the players dropped off and so did the crowds and the last one was after the last game. Sadly one year I went on the Friday something like 50 out of a possible 52 times but then again I probably did the same at Niccas on a Sunday and Derbys on a Thursday and Saturday. Those were the days.
