Re: Roberton
Some said he was a spud after the intraclub which I didn't see but was excellent in all NAB games and just hasn't put a foot wrong anywhere. He is composed and attacking. Ross Lyon would hate his forward running style. Dempster still Lyon's the ball backwards when there are several good risky options ahead. He has created a safety first mentality which is hard to break.

Re: Roberton
Agree that this guy can seriously play footy. A real positive from the season so far, and something to look forward to moving forward. Well done saints.
Re: Roberton
How did we get this kid? Can't see why Freo let him go, he's been a jet in his first five games for us. Looks like he could be a 10 year player.

he wanted to go home and no one offered anything so we just got him as a delisted player. He was a walk up under mark Harvey but seemed to get put aside by Lyon. If he'd been playing every game taking the family home might have had less appeal.

Re: Roberton
Roberton will win a B&F at the Saints in years to come. I have never seen a more composed footballer with so little experience. Just seems to know what to do in every situation. I had only seen him play on TV for the dockers , but have to agree that Wattters seems to allow him to just Play and back his judgement.

Re: Roberton
Nice to get one back after Freo got Zac for nothing.
Hypothetical: if they offered a trade of Zac for Roberton, would anyone take it?

Throw in Fyfe and I'd really consider it.

Re: Roberton
Absolute gun, I can not fault him. He has an all-round game. He's hard at it, that tackle bringing QLynch down was great. He's composed. Very skillful, kicking bullets 50m away. Most impressed with his decision making.

Re: Roberton
In the NAB game against Sydney I was behind the goal and watched him up close. He was directing traffic and leaving his man but always checking to see his man was covered. Absolute captain material. Was organised and vocal while plenty of others looked bored or confused. He has definitely eased the pain of Goddards loss. He seems to never get corralled even when hard up against the boundary and is not quick moving but never gets caught.

Re: Roberton
Been keenly watching him for a while, he is very composed when in traffic but often seems to find plenty of space too. Has silky foot skills. His pace whist not at the higher end is still pretty decent. If not a future leader should still be moved to the leadership group. Great game last night against the pies.

Re: Roberton
I assume he is on a two year contract?
Probably the best value contract in the Afl.
This guy is a ten year player for us.

Re: Roberton
it looks like he's channelling Big Carl when he gets around wearing that bandage around his head. Absolute Jet!
And grew up within the shadow of Seaford too. Another local product.
Getting sick of media hacks and ex-players accusing us of failing to recruit a decent defender during the trade period. We did, and we will get Mitch Brown for nothing at the end of the year.

I seem to recall some of the people bagging Robertons recruiting were also bagging Tony Micale and saying something along the line of it's Micale's fault we got this dud.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Roberton
yes the negative comments in december and january for a 21 yo old kid with 37 afl games under his belt who hadnt set foot on the park for us were quite bizarre.PJ wrote:I seem to recall some of the people bagging Robertons recruiting were also bagging Tony Micale and saying something along the line of it's Micale's fault we got this dud.

I have a feeling he only signed a one year deal, I'm sure I read that somewhere.Con Gorozidis wrote:I assume he is on a two year contract?

Time to put a new 3 year deal on the table if that is the case!

He's that rare find you find at a garage sale that the owner doesn't know is worth a lot. The bargain basement steal of the trade week.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
