Saints keep it in the family - Father & Sons
"Saints keep it in the family
With just one father-son pick in David Sierakowski, St Kilda's stars in Tony Lockett, Danny Frawley and Nathan Burke proceeded to churn out daughters - that trio boasting 10 between them.
Yet the club is now working hard to lure prospective father-son picks, with the Saints hosting fathers and sons of famous players at an introduction night recently.
Attending were potential father-son picks ranging from Justin Koschitzke's two year old to the sons of Robert Harvey, Stewart Loewe and even Dean Rice, who played more than 100 games at both Carlton and St Kilda.
The sons and fathers were presented with St Kilda tops by Lenny Hayes and Nick Dal Santo, with the club keen to get the ball rolling."
this has been by other clubs, glad its started at the saints.

Great idea - extremely low cost with the (albeit low) possibility of high rewards if we can convince someone like Rice's son to play for us instead of Carlton and he's any good. It really would be fantastic if we got a really good father son player running around with us in a few years. Anyone know if any of those kids are showing much in the juniors?

Re: Saints keep it in the family
just noted that Connor Harvey obviously attended... contact continues despite Robert working elsewhere-
I assume Harves will be at the Hall of fame Saturday as he is being inducted.

Kosi's two year old is playing better than his old man.SaintTom wrote:Great idea - extremely low cost with the (albeit low) possibility of high rewards if we can convince someone like Rice's son to play for us instead of Carlton and he's any good. Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Re: Saints keep it in the family
Stewart Loewe's boy played in rep game for South Metro juniors (Under 13) in 2012.
Suprised how small he was though at time......
He may front up for Junior Metro Champs this year in Under 14..................
will be keen to see (if he makes it) how much he has grown.

Could be more. Ben Stewart maybe and Bud Annuad son. Maybe they just came to our club anyway. There was probably no draft back then.

Re: Saints keep it in the family
Who are the ones we've missed out on?
Not necessary eligible but sons of former Saints playing elsewhere.
One I can think of is
Liam Jones at WB (His Father Bob played for us as a CHB/Ruckman)
And I think we missed out (originally?) on both Ken Sheldon's and Ian Stewart's sons

We missed out on Sam Sheldon because the f/s capping went from 50 games to 100 games. Carlton overlooked him so he went to Brisbane.Mr Magic wrote:Who are the ones we've missed out on?

Tom Temay is at Carlton now, although I don't think Paul played 100 for St Kilda?
Steven Greene - son of Russell??

Can't we just pay lauren jackson a few million for artificial insemination from tony lockett or rob harvey - cross fingers and hope for boy triplets.

Gary Rohan's dad was a Sainter.
My kid played against Jim Stynes kid in under 9s last week end. Far out he is a massive kid and has skill already. Dees might get another first.
