Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
GWS have an abundance of midfielders, but from a trade perspective we have nothing to offer, as we are short of players in the essential categories of midfield and key position. Are there any 196cm+ players apart from Watts that are worth a look?

Id be looking at GWS or GC lists. Age profiles fit what we are after.

WC did ok out of the Gherig deal. They used their draft pick on Daniel Kerr.Sainternist wrote:Sammy pretty much did a dash for cash. That's why the Scumbagger fans were so upset at him for so long. Can't recall how Fraser was going in his last year at the Eagles and what terms he left. I'm pretty sure he wanted to return to Melbourne, which may have been the main reason for him to join us. It did take him a while to fully find his feet as a Saint. He didn't really become a permanent full forward until 2003, if I remember properly.

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
Why would any of those players move to StK if the are happy with the terms of their deals, or could get the same offer at another club with better prospects
We would need a disgruntled player
Or
Go home factor
Or
An an under valued player, who is possibly in a queue or out of favour...
Eg, Gardiner, Gehrig, Hamill, Voss, Powell, Black, Ray, Schnieder, Gram, Dempster
All successful and left for one of those reasons...
Are we an attractive club to want to go to..... Did Caddy even consider StK?!

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
We're better off chasing a big name through free agency when we're ready to launch our next assault on a flag - similar to what Essendon did with Goddard or Geelong with Ottens. If we chase players who aren't free agents then we'll be giving up draft picks to get them and we need to keep and use all the picks we have - for now.

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
I have it on good authority that Plugger has a son, about 20 now, who is running around in a suburban league. He was very special as a junior, winning several competition best and fairests. He did his knee in his u/18 TAC year and missed out on being drafted. Subsequently went off the rails. The boy in question was a giant lump of a kid, who dominated in his early years, mainly due to his size. When my source told me who it was, I wasn't surprised. The kid played a couple of years with my son. When the son of plugger call was made to me, it sounded plausible because of the striking resemblance.Stephen Theodore wrote:All daughtersCairnsman wrote:Has Tony Locket had any sons yet?
I wonder how many so-called illegitimate sons of ex-saints might be running around out there? Barker, Roberts, Greene, Nettlefold and GT were all megastars in the saints disco, if not always on the ground.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

This thread was meant to be about hypotheticals.
What is wrong with dreaming about a star player joining our club? C'mon, lighten up.

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
What we really need is 1 or 2 High Risk-High Reward type players that we can get on the cheap (and they come through for us as well). Josh Hill from Bulldogs to West Coast is the perfect example.
I do admit that these are Very Rare, but they do bob up from time to time !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
If you get them on the cheap.... Why are they high risk?
High risk is an injury ridden Brad Ottens at 27yo for pick 12
Three premierships later...

27? Ottens was 24 when Geelong picked him up, 25 when he played his first Cats game.BigMart wrote:High risk is an injury ridden Brad Ottens at 27yo for pick 12
And he'd averaged 19.5 games a year for the Tiges in the six years before that. Played 18 in 2004 when he got traded. Injured a bit, but not as much as you're suggesting.

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
For Jack Watts? f*** that - pick 50 and a slab of VB, and a low salary. He's a big risk... we want it to cost nothing to take it... though the Frawley combo looks good.PurpleHayes wrote:I personally rate the Jack Watts trade option - but what role are we asking him to fill?
Wouldn't it be a fairytale to see Roo take him under his wing and show him how to train (elite fitness) and work his arse off to become one of the premier CHF's in the league?
Our 2nd round pick will be lowish, say 23-24. Would that pick do it? Or perhaps Farren Ray and our 3rd round pick?
How about Howe, Frawley and Watts for Gilbert, Ray and pick 25?

That splurge got us THREE good contributors: Hamill, Gehrig and Brett Voss.
Second, Hamill left Carlton after he was publicly berated by Elliott at the Carlton B&F.

Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
Mate, the promise shown by Mordoch, Hickey, Saunders, Roberton, Wright, Newnes, Ross, Stanley and hopefully Siposs gets it together, (not sure about Dunnell, to be honest), plus Ferguson, add a fit Schneider and Gwilt in, add Tom Lee works out, hope the veterans keep plugging away, and let's speculate Spencer White get a second half of the year crack at it.... a couple of solid big body pick ups in midfield and we are right back in it for one last Roo-Hayes tilt...... and also, the future looks bright.suss wrote:We're better off chasing a big name through free agency when we're ready to launch our next assault on a flag - similar to what Essendon did with Goddard or Geelong with Ottens. Re: A Star Recruit for 2014
Parker, Fyfe or Adams through the mids please.
Parker is a Langy boy so go home factor would put us in a good position.
Fyfe, unsure of contract status, but kids a freak along with HeppD and Martin (for their age).
Adams, is the best of the unsigned players and will be good if attitude comes good (Caddy anyone?).
