Excited about the future?
Dunno about you guys, but I'm starting to see things I like- the next generation of Saints could be pretty exciting..in a year or two I sense a real positive.

Re: Excited about the future?
Im not as pessimistic as I was a couple of weeks ago.
Getting games into the young blokes and some decent drafting and use of FA, it will take a few years but maybe by 2016 we might have turned the corner again...

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Re: Excited about the future?
We have some kids who could develop into reasonable contributors to an AFL side. Stanley, Siposs and maybe White have the potential to become elite, but that's nowhere near enough. While I'm sure there will be some things to be happy about, we will be a bottom six team for the next four years minimum. Our future is not nearly as exciting as most

No, it's not enough. But recruiting has been great the last 2 years, let's just hope it continues that way. The other half of the side isn't here yet.

Jeezus guys cheer up. Go and watch the Storm for a few years and come back when we're cruising again. Collingwood got smashed by Essendon. Richmond ran Freo close over there- we have really only lost one game to ordinary opposition. We are not that far off being good and have had a terrible run with injuries to defenders.

Starting to feel like 1995 and 2001 seasons again. Blooded a lot of youngsters who showed promise. A few years later were playing deep into the finals.

Re: Excited about the future?
Spencer White and a few of the others running around this round, both yesterday and Anzac Day, gives me great hope for the future.
Something exciting is building in the back blocks of Seaford.

Re: Excited about the future?
I guess the optimism come from sides like Adelaide last season they finished bottom 6 the year before and the power this year showing a bit

It's good to see some worthwhile fresh players coming through. Can I see any stars in the making - not yet! A team has to have several star players to make it to top 4, let alone winning the flag.

Re: Excited about the future?
Need to get more talent through the midfield....
That's the most important facet and I think we are really lacking here.
Yes we have Murdoch and Saunders who debuted, but who really knows yet about them. We've seen them 4 times at most.
Newens looks good. Ross is there abouts and Ledger has stagnated.

You are right, of course. I liked the look of Shenton yesterday, He seems to be a goer with good pace, Also Webster.Spinner wrote:Need to get more talent through the midfield

Re: Excited about the future?
Next cycle has Mcevoy, R Stanley,T Hickey, A Siposs, J Newnes, S Ross, N Wright , A Saad, T Milera, T Simpkin & hopefully Lee as strong players.
Murdoch, Saunders, White & Webster have shown encouraging signs ( still early days though)& players like Ledger are at the cross roads.
Are any of these going to be elite?
Not one of them you can say with 100% authority that would be the case although several are confident of being good to v good players.
Next summer is a crucial one, we will get a top 10 draft pick, maybe a top 5 & we have plenty of $$ room in the salary cap to go head hunting.
Lists get turned over very quickly, we have started in 2012 so its second year into the list turnover.
The tricky part is to manage the present, stay competitive but develop the players that will be there for the next tilt.

.
I have hope for Markworth who is out with a knee.
Gwilt and Gilbert are also both only 26.
But yes we are still rebuilding and need more.
However also remember that the more will not just be 18 year olds, but players over various ages.

Well said and spot on. Sadly we have to look beyond this season for the promise of glory and much needed silverware. We have some kids that are real goers. Wright, Ross, Saunders, Murdoch are all showing a bit and will only get better. Spencer White played a cracker for the Zebbees today kicking three including one on the run from the wing which sounded pure Buddy Franklin. A huge comparison I know but you never know. Milera kicked six so he should be welcomed back to seniors with open arms. Can I also say as a life long supporter of this football club I was particularly proud of Rooey in our loss in Wellington. He played a monster game against the Swanees. There is plenty of life left in this old dog. So while I am sad that we won't be anywhere near it in September, the future is looking bright. So we should keep the faith. Our day will come. Go Sainters!

hope he continues to develop.

Think Webster will be a player with the limited footage I've seen from him. Could see him take the kick outs for the saints.

Re: Excited about the future?
Yes Saints rising stevens & armitage obvious A graders for us although I would say they are B + at this stage but very close to elite.
Gilbert, Gwilt & Geary also should be around but we need to grab a star player in the summer.
Plenty of work still to do, this is the year to really take a good look at everyone on the list & develop the younger players.
