Pick 6?

Post: # 1326385Post andrewg »

After looking at our fixture. I think we will come 14th above GWS, GC, Lions, Bulldogs, Melbourne, Power and Saints very close.

So with this is mind who will we get pick 6 and 24?
Who has been picked up pick 6 in the past?

Pick 6 is cursed.

Plus it's laughable that you think we'll finish above the Power. Stop living in the past...

Pick 7....reckon it might be that one. The Phantom Drafts already out have a few handy sounding mid-fielders, so whichever falls to us.

Hard to see us finishing above Port and below Melbourne unless things change dramatically. Port actually look organised. Hinckley had done a good job so far.

Pick 6
2008 - Yarran
2009 - Gary Rohan
2010 - Reece Conca
2011 - Chad Wingard
2012 - Jackson Mcrae

Nothing amazing haha

Bottom third of the ladder will look as follows. Port could easily fInish above us.

18th GWS
17th Suns
16th Demons
15th Dogs
14th Lions
13th Saints

Correct - Pick 6 potentially for the saints. Trade to freo with dal santo for Fyfe. Simple.

Wouldn't mind getting another high draft pick as well with the path we are heading.

based on recent track record, we may look to swap it for a player & another pick. Player will be someone who would be worth a 2nd round pick in their own right, the pick is probably going to be an early 2nd rounder.

I don't reckon we will go down that path again.
Pelchen wanted to get some guys in their 20s in to even up our list and make sure we weren't completely un competitive.
In my opinion we have achieved that goal and now we need to find some real young guns in the next 2 years.
Pick 6 sounds about right. Lets get the best kid we can find.

Ps
Agree that we will finish above demons and below port.
Port could be top 4 .

They have said they are unlikely to trade the pick this time. And Port are not a top 4 team- they haven't beaten any a grade sides yet have they?

2012: Jackson Macrae (1 game)

2009: Gary Rohan (22 games)
2008: Chris Yarran (67 games)
2007: David Myers (50 games)
2006: Mitch Thorp (2 games)
2005: Beau Dowler (16 games)
2004: Tom Williams (76 games)
2003: Kepler Bradley (117 games)
2002: Steven Salopek (121 games)
2001: Ashley Sampi (78 games)
2000: Dylan Smith (21 games)
1999: Damian Cupido (53 games)
1998: Murray Vance (5 games)
1997: James Walker (151 games)
1996: John Rombotis (22 games)
1995: Daniel Healy (38 games)
1994: Robert McMahon (2 games)
1993: Trent Cummings (29 games)
1992: Robert Pyman (40 games)
1991: Paul Burton (0 games)

Not the greatest pick! Yarran probably the best of them so far, followed by Walker, Salopek, Bradley, Williams and Myers. Lots of players who looked good for a while but didn't go on with it: Sampi, Healy, Cummings, Rombotis, Cupido, Smith. The last few years do look better though - Wingard and Conca should both get close to A grade, no idea about Macrae.

Gary Rohan is an interesting one. I don't know much about him but at 189/89 he's a good size if he can play midfield, and seems to know how to kick a goal. Originally from Victoria but injured a lot since he was drafted interstate. The story reminds me a lot of Jason Gram and we got plenty out of that - would Rohan be worth taking a chance on?

I like the idea of a trade to Freo for Fyfe, not sure I would give up Dal, Ross might want pick 6 and Jones though.

This is assuming Fyfe says he wants to leave as Ross wouldn't willingly trade him.

If he nominated for the draft though with the promise of a big contract at the saints 4yrs 600k a year, I think melbourne or bulldogs might get him........would Ross help the Saints out?

Doubt it..

I don't think we should ever swap a first round pick unless the deal is e-x-c-e-p-t-i-o-n-a-l. Joel Selwood for pick 6? That would be an example of an exceptional deal. Actually, Fyfe is bordering on exceptional but I doubt Freo would swap him for pick 6 alone and I wouldn't trade any promising player at this stage.

To be a force again 2016/2017, we have 3/4 years of high end draft picks that we must get right. We need to do what Geelong did in 1999/2000/2001 and get a good core group that can give us success for 10+ years. We need a group like Enright, Ling, Bartel, Corey, Johnston, etc and develop them together to be a force.

We've invested heavily in our drafting resources and we have an academy to grow them in. These are good things. Trading away picks buggers-up the process unless you get a) a deal you can't say no to (e.g. Schnieder / Demspter for pick 26) or a certain type to round out a team (e.g. Ottens).

Unless the deal is exceptional, I wouldn't trade away a top end pick.

Wingard is already close to a gun and will be better than Yarran. Conca is going to be a pretty decent player and Mc Crae looks a beauty. Would take any of them after 2007. Sampi could play a bit too.

Rohans speed is what set him apart- i wonder if Goosing his leg will mean he never gets to be the player he looked like he would be. Mc Glynn has taken his place in the meantime. His old man was a Sainter but who knows how he will recover. Could be Joel Smith type with no real side effects.

The reasons given for swapping our dps last year was because we wouldn't get true quality in a compromised draft and we needed some mature bodies.

#12 for Lee and #25 (Wright - who looks OK) and #43 Saunders (who played on Thursday and looks a goer)

#13 for Hickey + 26 & # 47

Think we got White with #26 and cant find what happened to #47.

So all in all, while it is too early to say, it seems they may be future regular seniors in all four of them.

Not bad.

Not compromised this season, so I would hope to use our 1st round dp on a quality kid, while trading for a Watts type and use our cap space to lure a FA and also get a shutdown backman.

No they havent. But thats not their fault. They have a a soft draw and looking at their list - they look seriously dangerous. And they have a coach that can coach.

Every year a team comes from nowhere to finish top 4 - so will be Port or Bombers.....

Back on point - Unless it is an absolute gun under 22 (which is highly unlikely) I will fume if we trade our top pick for a player.

Looking at knightmare's phantom draft on bigfooty it looks like it's a midfielders draft. He has Nick Robertson (WA), Jack Billings (Vic) and Matt Crouch (Vic) as mids available around picks 6-8.

Think swapped somewhere for #48 and we picked up TDL. Not impressed so far with that pick.

#75 today in Pierce looks a handy type.
