Round 5 of the Peter Jackson VFL has been completed with Williamstown and Sandringham winning the Sunday matches:
SANDRINGHAM d NORTHERN BLUES: Sandringham has staged a miraculous second half comeback, to turn a 38 point third quarter deficit - at the 20 minute mark - into a 13-point victory against the Northern Blues. Whilst the Zebras recorded their second win in a row, and a spot in the eight, the Blues suffered back to back losses, after opening the season with two wins.
Marcus Marigliani was pushed forward in the second half and it produced results, with the captain kicking two goals, along with great input from Tom Curren (22 disposals), Hamish Shepheard (22) and Farren Ray (26) Tom Ledger (31). The Blues were unable to stop a seven goal run by Sandringham that started with Trent Dennis Lane in the third term, and was completed by a Jay Lever goal 12 minutes into the final term, giving the Zebras a six point lead.The final term then went goal for goal, with the Blues only regaining the lead by a point at the 19 minute mark, before the Zebras steadied for the win. Chris Michaelides was named best for Sandringham, along with Sam Dunnell, Adam Cockie and Shepheard. For Northern Blues, Levi Casboult (four goals) and Luke Mitchell (3) were the main avenues to goal, whilst leading disposals went to Tom Bell (26 disposals), Kane Lambert (25), Andrew Collins (24), Marc Watson (23), Aaron Joseph (22) and Frazer Dale (18).
