Exactly Milney has been probably the worst out of the regular 3 small forwards

Not in the first half when the game was to be one. They were all equally pathetic because small forwards do not work when the side is no good and playing 4 was ridiculous. Hope Siposs and Lee were both injured.

That's what I said last night... If Lee & Siposs weren't injured, then we have a major selection process issue.

If TDL's form really did warrant selection then it had to be at the expense of another sml fwd.

We need more players on the ground that can impact the contest (actually get a kick), 2 small forwards is plenty.

How many credits does Milne still have BTW? Because if he & saad are neck & neck in shitness, we have to per revere with the younger guy at this stage...

Milne still has a couple. Saad should be at least equal with him now but Milne should be ok because TDL will be like Gamble. Got yeasterday and gone tomorrow and Milera is struggling. I will give Milney 2 more weeks. Not sure how many the selectors will give him though.

Two small forwards is enough IMO, particularly if they can't go through the midfield.

I have Hickey, Lee and Siposs coming in this week for Dennis-Lane, Milera and Ross. Milne stays only because he has some credits left. Milera unlucky, it could easily have been Saad.

We went with a pygmy fleet last night - no doubt in some fantasy that we would outrun the Bombers - and were outmuscled.

I'd rather err on the side of too tall than too small.

I just want 4 forward targets that can take a mark, rather than Roo and Maister only. We are just too short up forward. At least 3 talls and 3 smalls, not 4 smalls!

TDL wasn't any good, so I'd put Sipposs playing up on a forward flank
I'd put Dunnell up there was well, for the expense of Milne.
I'd also try get Lee to play a few games, and somehow get Curren upgraded and having a go, Dal was really s*** last night and Lenny hasn't been much better.

If I had to choose between Milne, Milera or Saad, I'd probably say Milne to rest it out, he hasn't been doing that much in the forward line tbh, he got a bit more playing in the middle yesterday.

The senior players need to either pull their finger out or rest up and give some game time into the younger blokes.

I thought the 4 smalls were on a par. Milne 10 possessions in a whole game, T.D>L. 9, Saad 8 Milera 8, but played only 3 quarters. Not much to seperate them is there?

Hickey in, Sydney play two ruckmen
Sippos in
Either dunnel , curren or ledger to come in, we need more midfield options
Milera gone, Milne gone and Gilbert
Give rossy a full game and need saad to spent more time in the middle, needs to base his game around rioli. Not gonna be as good but need more midfield options . Can't keep going to the same old as there not getting the job done and need more support

I remember hearing somewhere that Sippa was ill. May also be a contributing factor to his non-selection this week with a 5 day turn-around??

It's a pretty good point Barry, stats-wise not much separating them, though watching the game, I thought Saad was pretty lively, missed a couple that he should have kicked.

TDL just seems to lack intensity & strength for this level, interesting to see he registered 6 tackles (2nd highest), but I would question how many of those were genuinely effective.

I am throwing 'credits' out the window, I'm sure Milne will come good at some stage this year but... we are honestly in fully-fledged rebuilding now. The upside of Saad is way more important than waiting for Milne to come good IMO.

Milera has probably been the best of the smalls so far & well ahead of TDL.

Out : TDL, Ray, Milne

In : Siposs, Lee, Hickey

* sandy game today could throw up another addition, let's reward whoever is putting their hand up, if Webster is good again then play him… if Curren is our best, then upgrade him, Dunnel performs, play him. This season is stuffed, let's get on with the bigger picture.

CJ can't be dropped with his current effort, but I still question how we can move forward with him in the side… good skills seem to be getting more important with the pressure of modern football, he just doesn't have them. Redeemer is a very harsh critic, but I agree on one point, I reckon opposition teams are more than happy for CJ to rack up possessions. CJ's skills are probably compounded by having Geary, Ray & Gilbert around him. You can probably carry one or two blokes with below skills, but 5-6?

I'll ask one more time, nobody thinks the output of the smalls this year has anything to do with Kosi not being there?

You can't afford to have a specialist crumb-maker, who is so slow he can't chase, whose agility is so poor that he can't apply any pressure.
The smalls have been kicking goals, there's just way too many of them, last night I saw countless forward entries kicked to our smalls in pack situations because with Maister in the Ruck, there was no-one to kick to.

I don't care how many times Jones ran onto the ball and hacked it up in the air or handballed to someone under pressure - he never wins his position. Ray has been ordinary, TDL is too weak and doesn't get enough of the ball and Milera is an excellent state league player. This is the kind of age demographic our side should have for the rest of the year. Milne and Maister need to lift or they could be out soon as well.
Fisher Ferguson Gwilt
Geary Stanley Roberton Sipposs
Hayes Simpkin Dal Santo
Milne Reiwoldt
Saad Maister Lee
McEvoy Armitage Steven
Montagna Ross Wright Hickey

(If Gwilt is ready) we really missing Dempster.

how's it look? Nice tall back line, open forwards, with three marking players..... Simpkin in the midfield for bulk and nasty

Write Milne off again early in a season like last season and you'll be laughing through your arse at the end of the season

Yeah, they were all quiet - as is expected when the midfield gets beaten badly and the forward 50 entries are so poor. It's probably last in first out, so TDL and Saad would be first dropped. Milney's still got another couple of weeks for mine.

IN: Blake, Hickey, Siposs, Dunell
OUT: Simpkin, TDL, Milera, Ray

Gilbert on the edge, Ledger close, Curren close if we elevated him.

We can't afford to continue to play 3 or 4 small forwards, we don't have enough midfielders to rotate through, and are relying on their ball handling skills and defensive pressure, which is little. Really missing Dempster and Gwilt, Simpkin is still underdone.

Rest McEvoy more up Forward to begin with, then sub out Hickey if we can. Swans rucks will dominate us otherwise... Other option is bring Kozi in, but we certainly can't rely on Lee/Maister to be effective, nor can we move Stanley and Blake out of the back line...

Jones out? No way.

Out: Milera, TDL, Maister
In. Lee, Siposs, Koschitzke

Need to play three talls up forward, and have one of them who can help McEvoy in the ruck.

Changes for next week

Post: # 1323004Post lloyd21 »

For goodness sake sick of people calling for Kosi like he is a messiah , he can't get a kick in the VFL. Unless Lee /Hickey /Mc Evoy are injured forget it.

Milne been a fantastic servant of the Club , but time to get Dal Santo to go forward and kick some goals and tackle and keep the ball in forward line.

Time to get games into Ross /Ledger in midfield to see if they cut it in the big time.
