Saints-Sydney NOT on free to air. That'd be right...
You would think with a ground-breaking match like this, that the AFL would be hot to
have it on free to air, straight after the Pies-Bombers match. But no.
As a Wellington councillor has said -
"City councillor John Morrison, the sports and events portfolio leader, said the game would be great
for the local economy, as well as providing a way to promote Wellington to the Australian market.
"It will be one of the most watched television events in Australia, and it will be direct from Wellington."
Sorry John, Deal Or No Deal and Bargain Hunt take precedence.
And it looks like there's no free to air coverage in NZ either. Though it is on pay telly in NZ.
Anyways, here's some stuff the Kiwi press have been saying about the match -

Get Foxtel like most people have
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Fox got shafted by Ch7 in the 1st deal. Fox fought for (and got) a much better deal this time. Lets take it as a compliment that Fox wanted to do our ANZAC Day game !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I would be pretty sure the club knew they wouldnt be on FTA when they agreed to play over there. Matter of fact I would be certain they knew.

I would have thought it was actually no hope. Channell 7 get 4 games a week. They will have Thrusday, Friday and Saturday nights as well as a game Sunday.

Nope. It's still sitting at around 20-25% of households, the last figures I saw.desertsaint wrote:'most' people?magnifisaint wrote:Get Foxtel like most people have

Yeah but your looking at it from the simple point of view they only get 4 games a week, I'm talking about the distribution of those 4 games. You would think that one of them should have been allocated to the first game ever played overseas for premiership points. Wellington would have chipped in you would have thought. Just doesn't make sense to not televise it on FTA considering the marketing potential.

So basically in the eyes of most people the anzac day footy will still be and only be about ess/coll.
Nz will sadly come and go without most people even knowing about it.
It wont even be advertised on free to air in the lead up to this historic game.
What a joke and a shocking oversite by the afl really.

The club agreed and would have known it was never going to be on FTA. surely everyone realised that at the time we decided to play there.

And it gives us a BIG "IN" with Foxtel. I think we all need to come to grips that Pay TV (Fox) is the way of the future. I predict that they will be the "BIGGEST" player in the next Footy rights deal !!

Well I would have thought that Wellington would have wanted it on TV from a tourism marketing opportunity and I would have thought that the AFL would want it on FTA so that the game had a wider audience.plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:plugger66 wrote:

I hate pay TV and refuse to buy it again. I would rather go to a pub. It stops kids seeing our matches and will kill the clubs ability to sell it's self to a new generation. We know a kid who was a Saint in a family of bombers who has gone to the dark side and a couple of my kids mates have jumped off us now. Poor performance and no free to air coverage is a slow kill death. The fans that obsess will get fox but the afl is blind when the money comes easy.

Correct. And we know 7 hate telecasting over their precious news and 6.30 to 7.30 time slots.dragit wrote:Wellington are 2 hours ahead of Melbourne time, so the game will start at 5.50 Melbourne time.
7 provide a real B grade telecast in any case. Shyte analysis compared to Fox and crappy SD pictures.

Re: about Saints-Sydney NOT on free to air. That'd be right
Why have it on FTA TV? It would take away from the Essendon vs Collingwood wank fest and that would never be on the AFL agenda to treat all clubs equally. Dont be f****** stupid.

IMO I wish our game was on at 11.10am local, which is 1.10pm NZ time.Hurricane wrote:Why have it on FTA TV? It would take away from the Essendon vs Collingwood wank fest and that would never be on the AFL agenda to treat all clubs equally. Dont be f****** stupid.

That would make a 1.45pm finish, which is nearly an hour before the Wankfest begins.
Be a great lead up to the match, rather than at 5.50pm when a lot of people are smashed/tired.

Yeah, the usual Anzac Day crap. The same stories about Filth and Bummer players going to the Shrine and dribbling about Gallipoli. They could have the same vids each year just change the year.
Won't be watching any of it.
