Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
It's different, fascinatingly visual, not the perfect leg action ........ but it is working beautifully
I just hope that the umpires don't try to umpire him away from his unique approach. Has anyone been timing him?

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
Who cares? He's one of the best kicks going around. Everyone has whinged about how goalkicking hasn't improved in the history of footy. The up pops Saad with a different approach, a dead eye dick, and everyone has another whinge ffs.
Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"

Not everyone, only me
And I hope to whinge about it 6-8 times a match
Lance or James??

Oh When The - said :
[quote]he nows runs back to get ready for his kick - he has 20 secs from when the ump calls to start run up[quote]
I noticed that too - running back to the mark. Does the umpire call to start the run-up, or is it 20 secs from when the mark/free is paid?

You're right. I'll use that one on the golf course this afternoon.bergholt wrote:Focusing too much on what you're doing is actually a bad thing. Your body knows what to do, so you actually need to be able to get your mind out of the way.

It's 30 seconds from when the mark or free is paid, provided time off is not called. The period between when time off is called and then called back on again is not counted in the 30 seconds.Junction Oval wrote:...is it 20 secs from when the mark/free is paid?

I think they changed it that you must start your run up by 20 seconds now. Well thats what they said on TV last round.

Kicked 1360 goals and 590 behinds - 69.74% (the records don't show how many complete misses, for any player, nor the number of behinds kicked pre 1974).bigcarl wrote:Closer to 75%, I think, when kicking for goal.perfectionist wrote:Tony Lockett (70% eff)

Dunno who "they" might be, but whoever it was, they misspoke.plugger66 wrote:..I think they changed it that you must start your run up by 20 seconds now. Well thats what they said on TV last round.
From here:

Other amendments to reduce “dead” time and increase % ball in play:
o Further tighten the time taken to restart play following goals (approx. 27 sec saving per game by reducing time between goal and centre bounce by 1 sec)
o Minimise delays due to blood rule by allowing replacement player to come on immediately after blood rule is indicated by umpire, and not allowing excess time for injured player to exit the field (but still allowing sufficient time to assist injury management).
o Heavier sanctions for clubs not complying with quarter start times.
o Stricter enforcement of 30 sec limit on set shots for goal.

Maybe the stricter enforcement is you must kick by 30 seconds so Saad would have to start his run up by 20 seconds.

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
That's correct. His walk/run up takes about 18-19 seconds (on the ones that he had last night or are on YouTube anyway), so he must start it ten seconds after he has marked or been paid a free. That's why he now runs back.plugger66 wrote:...Maybe the stricter enforcement is you must kick by 30 seconds so Saad would have to start his run up by 20 seconds.

He did miss one from the goal square on the 8th of Sep 1991. Burned into my brain.skeptic wrote:I don't think he missed any completely

That was after he nearly knocked himself out when he probably took his highest mark.

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
Nine goals, five behinds and two complete misses. He could have kicked 14 (bloke at the other end kicked 8.1) But it was not his fault we lost that game. It was Ablett's fault.bergholt wrote:He did miss one from the goal square on the 8th of Sep 1991. Burned into my brain.skeptic wrote:I don't think he missed any completely

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
Tha Age article was interesting, as it indicates that AFL Umpires were working with the Saints and Saad to help him comply with stricter enforcement of the 30 Sec. rule. It looks as though his "jog back" does provide enough time for him to complete his normal kicking routine.
So it's 30 secs to take his kick.

Where as last year it was 30 seconds to start your run up. he would have to start his within 2 seconds of the decision.

I stand corrected. Best kick for goal I've seen, particularly when it countedperfectionist wrote:Kicked 1360 goals and 590 behinds - 69.74% (the records don't show how many complete misses, for any player, nor the number of behinds kicked pre 1974).bigcarl wrote:Closer to 75%, I think, when kicking for goal.perfectionist wrote:Tony Lockett (70% eff)

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
Every player needs to find a routine that works for them. He's foudn one that works for him. Nothing else matters. If it makes him one of most accurate goal kickers just keep on doing what you're doing.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

I still maintain that there are many other rules that need amending before this one.
The simpler way to reduce dead time is to blow time on when the player is taking his shot. Problem solved!

Re: God Saad's goal routine annoys me
Last year I regularly counted him doing 21 walking paces before the brief pre-kick jog.
This year I've counted him doing 27!
He's getting back to his start faster, but taking even longer to walk in.
I looove to count.

No problems. A breath of fresh air. Still cross my fingers when Nick has a shot ... but always feel more confident with Saad. Stick with it Saad.

And make the game at least 10 minutes longer. They whinge enough as it is. Think you will find quarters are shorter in the next couple of years.
