I remember a slow and seemingly inept mature recruit debuting for us against Freo in 2004. Didn't exactly set the world on fire (and had a few calling him a dud IIRC). Took some time, but eventually became a very good player for us.gringo wrote:The ABC commentators said Lee worked his arse off and was a reward for all the hard work when he goaled. He isn't slow- never write off a player in the first few games either. He has talent and don't forget how many said Saad and Milera were duds early on.
Milera deserves some love too- he did have some pretty fair stats despite his missed goal that saad could have kicked.

Fisher has come off an interrupted pre-season, so he's still a couple of weeks away from best condition, as is Hayes.

Best: Good things from Wright and Stanley in the backline, McEvoy in the ruck, Milera showing some polish around the ground(apart from one clanger miss on goal), Roo leading by example. Gilbert getting used to playing up around the wing and of course.. a Win!
Worst: Terrible undisciplined tackling, poor defensive work by the midfield letting their opponents run off them far to easy.
Otherwise, Lenny, NDS and Blake are slowing down- not the leg speed they used to have. Lee looks like he might be a positive

These older players are going to have to step up in the next month. We've got some tough matches coming up and can't expect the younger brigade to dominate every week like they did yesterday.cwrcyn wrote:Fisher has come off an interrupted pre-season, so he's still a couple of weeks away from best condition, as is Hayes.

Tend to agree. The opposition were very poor,so I wouldn't be getting to excited about the result.BigMart wrote:One of the most uninspiring, lacking in pressure, mistake ridden soft games I've watched...
There's cheap wins and
Goal for goal with that team for two quarters was disappointing ..... Defensively.
Some messy football. And 7 free kicks for front on high tackles stemmed clumsy and lazy..... Jack, if he's going to win that much footy, he needs to figure out what he's capable of, and make decisions within his limitations. He does everything a 100%
That's great, except disposal.
Thought we were flat and clumsy through most parts. We finished the game off nicely, otherwise it would of been a horrible effort, quarters two and 3 were just that.
Positives were the lesser likes, let's see them string some together now against AFL quality opposition
