Tom Simpkin
Anyone know what has happened to Tom Simpkin. Showed real promise last year, and he's not on the injury list.
Whats the goss?

Re: Tom Simpkin
He spent the preseason injured- i think he's probably coming back through Sandy and won't be played until they think his fitness base is at the right level. Roberton probably doesn't help his cause either- similar size and attacking style.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Simpkin is easily in our best 22. I think once he's 100% match fit he'll be straight in. He was a late withdrawal in Round 1 and has been an emergency Rounds 2 & 3.
I'd have him in ahead of Blake at the moment.

Re: Tom Simpkin
I tipped that he would be in this week in place of Blake. He has been nominated as an emergency, so the coaches must think that his fitness is good enough to play if necessary.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Bizarre not picking him given we are only playing GWS.
If Fisher was fit enough last week, then anyone one who can walk is.

no offence to Tom Simpkin but Fisher is probably our most important player.

Re: Tom Simpkin
I suspect Blake won't be replaced by Simpkin until Hickey is fit to play. We need Blake as both defender and back up ruck. Simpkin did miss nearly all the lead-in games, so his fitness would be about a month behind most others. He needs at least another week at Sandy.

Re: Tom Simpkin
disagree that we need Blake as both a defender and back up ruck. he is ordinary at both and that is ok if you want something lame imo. Stanley the go imo.
also, Simpkin is fit enough because you wouldn't list him as an emergency otherwise. simply Simpkin can't get in.
Watters tends to stick with players for a few games before dropping them. I suspect it is his philosophy. otherwise Siposs would be out this week as he was poor against the Tigers.
saying all this. I wouldn't be surprised if Simpkin plays tomorrow.

Re: Tom Simpkin
Stanley is our only true TALL defender, with so many key forwards being over 197cm these days. I'd be loathe to take him out of defense at the moment, even though he's unproven in the role.

Re: Tom Simpkin
I love Simpkin but I think Watters feels he is forced to play Blake in case we need a back up ruckman.
Id say when Hickey comes back then Simpkin will come in for Blake.
