Are we - as a supporter group - starting to turn?

Post: # 1316109Post Quixote »

I'm sensing a lot of angst. But to be honest it's giving me a lot of  Especially some of the stuff getting penned on here recently.

I'm hurting as much as anyone, don't get me wrong there. But I was wondering. Is there a disco anywhere nearby?

A few people are at risk of turning Japanese from what I've been reading.

Very good.

At least the traffic on the site is on the up you'd think.

Supporters are simply beginning to accept reality - we are now "officially" in a Re-building phase.

Focus now more on effort, not on outcomes.

What's the alternative?

So the model of - the only way to rebuild is from the very bottom of the draft, we're going back to that? Or have we learnt from Sydney and Geelong?

Love to win - whenever we can. It's not about throwing in the towel, just accepting that we will lose a few more than we will win this year. As long as the effort is there (unlike Melb), we can't be too critical of some losses, provided they are not blow-outs.

Let's hope that we take the Geelong approach and from what I can see, we are doing that. The days of intentionally bottoming out are well gone - supporters will not accept years at the bottom or you will see Membership disappear.

I still don't see that sort of attitude as acceptable. Especially after 2 rounds.

I'm worried from what I'm hearing from Watter's too. Yes, obviously we are re generating our list. But at no stage should we be perpetrating an image of defeat.

Ah...

We must accept being mediocre.... Cool, good to know...

That's much better, because I was starting to get stressed about losing.... Now I know we can accept it ..... It's a whole lot better... And the knowledge that we'll win a flag in 5 years... Even better

Cool mate, and that's not a bad supporter view to take.

My point is that I hope the CLUB is taking the right approach to it all.

Are there any Western Australians in the room?

I definately think that without hope, it is human nature to pick holes, and find problems...

This is quite important though, from a continuous improvement point of view, as a supporter base we can ask for answers to the concerns we have....

It doesn't make us any less loyal, just more discerning

You know what I get really sick of… is this myth that our supporters are happy to lose and be on the bottom, but there are these wonderful other clubs that just refuse to drop out of the 8, their fans are just so strongly united that they will not accept a loss.

Pendlebury, Thomas, Franklin, Hodge, Roughhead, Judd, Naitanui, Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer etc etc… all players attained by these wonderful "never accept a loss" clubs by being absolutely rubbish for multiple seasons.

It's bad enough other clubs perpetuating the myth that we are happy losing, but from our own fans is just pathetic.

You can put up all the "never-say-dies" analogies in the world, at the end of the day, the team with the more quality players usually wins.

What the hell are you expecting Saints fans to do now we are not a force? Should we stamp our feet like petulant toddlers and demand that the team just wins? Getting a farking grip.

I would rather be surrounded by humble & realistic people than say Essendon fans, who are just so arrogant about the fact that so far they have got away with cheating… I have not met one that thinks they may be in strife.

BigMart why don't you go and follow one of these sides that just doesn't accept failure, instead of lowly old StKilda, you sure picked a strange side to follow if you think winning is everything.

We all want to win every week, we all want to see a f-ing flag, some years the team is miles behind of the best sides.

Realistically we have been just ordinary since 2010, if anything most fans have stayed positive about our chances for longer than has been warranted by performance.

I'm sure the club will aim to win each week, but I'm guessing Watters won't go home and beat his wife if we lose to Hawthorn… cause you know what, THEY HAVE A BETTER TEAM THAN US THIS YEAR.

I reckon it's quite balanced really, there is certainly those that reacted strongly to our first two losses - mostly in the immediate hours and days after the GC loss - but since then there seems to be some level headed and calm discussion. So probably and hopefully more reactional and emotional back-bighting than turning.

My prediction is that we will be closer to the bottom of the ladder for this season and probably next but should see a rise after that providing we keep uncovering and developing players from here on in. We've gained a lot of experience over the past decade and I think we should see some benefit from that in terms of how we rebuild and also the culture it has created.

No I didn't… I was talking about the 'good' clubs who don't accept mediocrity… and never lose players to other clubs…

Tell me, what would the fans from one of these good clubs do to not accept mediocrity like we all do?

b.t.w didn't you predict us to slide down the ladder this year? surely that means you think we would lose more games than win?

Never.

I hate losing. Even back in the eighties or around the Blight era when we sucked so hard a watermelon could have made it through a garden hose.

I still go into games demanding a win. If this mob ever rolls over and shows the moist bit like Melbourne, then I will turn on them.

I expect us to rebound and rebound fast.

Watters makes all the right noises and looks good from a development angle.

The Football Department as a collective is seemingly heavily on development compared to eras gone by.

Plus Pelchan. He has a track record, we should expect he does it again.

Me too.

If we were ever to appoint two children with literally no background in anything like Trengove and Grimes I would be mortified.

How are the oldies meant to look at the kids?

Just appoint Seany D if we are struggling that much.
