Home game against Richmond at the G?

Post: # 1316054Post Harvey To Hayes »

I'll apologise up front because I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere (couldn't find in first few pages of posts) but just out of curiosity why did we play our home game against Richmond at their home ground?

Must have been a financial windfall for the club with that decent-ish crowd but possibly cost us 4 points, playing at their home ground must be a few goals advantage to the Tiges...

Actually I don't think there was any financial windfall at all.
The Richmond members got reciprical access to the game as part of their memberships so we would have made nothing out of the majority of them.
So out of the 56 thousand there, say 24 thousand of our members, 28 thousand of theirs leaving an enormous 4 thousand people paying at the gate.
Unless Richmond were happy to give us a slice of their membership revenue I don't see how it was fiancially better for us than having 40 thousand at Etihad.

So we complain when we play finals that the league has stiffed us by not giving us many games at the G. If they do give us games at the G we'll complain because it's against interstate or low drawing teams so we can't make any money. When we get a decent crowd at the G we complain because the opposition get in on their 16 game memberships. You can see how the league just throw their hands up in the air and realise they just can't win.

BTW - the pies played us last year I think it was at Etihad as THEIR home game.

I don't think we just get a cut of the cash gate, but also an amount for each person in the crowd regardless of how they got in.

And as it was our home game, how come nearly every time Richmond got a goal, it was flashed on the small score board. Cant remember the exact words, but it was something like " Goal Goal , the tigers are roaring " or something to do with the roar. It P*ssed me off every time I saw it.

I saw Michael Nelltlefold outside the ground and commented that we seemed to be outnumbered 50:1 in the milling crowd. His response "Its fine its all money for us" so we must have done OK out of it.

24,000 of our memebrs??? Dream on...more like 10,000 tops I reckon. We were so badly outnumbered it wasnt funny. Any non Saints yearly reserved seating areas were a sea of Yellow and Black

They have 53,000 Members, we have 30,000 and it sure as hell showd Fri night.

Yes, Richmond members got reciprical rights to this game as compensation for their game in Cairns. That means that for EVERY Richmond member through the gate, an ammount ($10-$15 or there abouts) would be paid by Richmond to St Kilda. And YES, we are all creatures of habit and some have a habit of going to Etihad for Home games and nowhere else. If we are to improve our standing in the Off-Field stakes we need to increase our membership AND break the Etihad habit by having MORE home games at the G. I woul love for the club to start lobbying NOW for home fixtures at the G against Collingwood, Hawthorn, Geelong & Richmond in 2014 (Home games v Carlton and Essendon will be played at Etihad) !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Thanks for the money.

If it cost us 4 points that's our issue being soft outside Etihad.

Same excuse as playing in Tassie.

Viagra needed!!

If we actually are getting $10 - $15 for everyone of their members through the gate then I have no problem with it at all.

If Nettlefold said that us being outnumbered 50:1 by their supporters was fine as "its all money for us."
Then would explain the clubs treatment of members over the last five years.
I think the club needs to remember that the members are the very heart and soul of a club not just their wallets.

the MCG is where finals get played, we do need to keep playing there.

I agree with this statement - we need to be able to play at the G and learn to play well there.
Can only help us to get more experience there for when we play finals.

It came up "THE ROAR IS BACK" before saying GOAL. Ours just had the logo pull away then split into two logos then came up GOAL. I'm assuming every team has something similar for that scoreboard every time they score a goal.

We'll get those 4 points back when we beat Collingwood in an away game at Etihad in Round 6.

Melbourne play their home games there, don't think they'll be playing finals for awhile....either will we....unfortunately

Someone forgot to tell the umpires it was a St Kilda home game. A few hometown decisions our way would have helped
