Club Fitness and Training Intensity
I am extremely concerned.... in fact very worried at our current fitness levels. Having watched a number of teams train throughout the preseason I am staggered at just how flat we were in the second half especially, and the leisureliness taken at most our training sessions.
Can somebody fill me in who our current fitness coach is? and why the lack of focus on match day drills and intensity?
If they need to put in a call to a third party for advice just make a call to former Crows coach Neil Coach. Fitness wise the most well versed assistant in the game but his lack of game day appreciation was his downfall. We just need to the first part, and we should be back on the right track.

Poochy 1 2 3 4 and 5 should be reinstated!
Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
you are worried now???
i was worried last year when i saw them struggle to run and spread against the eagles. players like simpkin didnt help that but my guess is people wont like him being dropped/not getting a game. as all they see is him going head first into the contest

Neil Coach? An apt surname.
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.
Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Gold coast looked the same if not a bit worse in some cases in the 4th, there was 1 player on the field who looked the goods and he wasn't on our team.

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
I'm worried about our small bodies.
Everyone was saying how we had trimmed up but to me we have taken it too far.
We were outmuscled at the contest many many times.
I don't want to see beau Wilkes running up in the Wing trying to be like riewoldt.
I want to see him hulking some kid in the goal square and tossing him like a rag doll and taking a mark.
I want to see milera and Saad more bulky.
Even Tom lee. Its clear when he arrived he needed to bulk up but it never happened.
I don't want a whole team of hulks but each side needs 5 hulks .
Probably only Mcevoy Lenny and maybe Fisher look bulky enough.
Its no good running when U can't win the ball.

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Looks like Armitage is still cramping early in games according to the coaches press conference.
This is his 7th season. But he should have been a lock for the grand finals. I'm sure he could have run out games back then...

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Armo wasn't the only one cramping, they all were.....Except God jr.

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
I'd love to know what the hell the game plan was and what the hell we planned to achieve in that first quarter overall. We didn't want the footy as much as them and we were reactive...that first five minutes of the game, it looked like our plan was to defend first and then perhaps think about attacking the footy.
We need a full forward to PLAY like a full forward and HOLD his marks. We need a centre half forward to create opportunities the way Roo had done for so long, but I fear that he's only HALF the player he used to be...Lee might be Roo's replacement in the long run, but unless he gets games, he will not be able to get to the required level. Kosi can play the traditional full forward role, but I'm not sure if the modern game will allow SW the luxury of a dinasour sitting 10 meter from goal all match.
Also.. we need forward crumbers to play as crumbers and our mids working hard to get front and square to the packs to ensure those forward entries are not WASTED. We will improve with Chips, Dempster and Simpkin in the side but we still have problems with our forwards and our mids
Maybe the plan is to finish bottom 4 and get the draft picks..to me that is better than finishing 9th

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
I don't think we'll have any great idea on the conditioning of the players until round 3 or 4. So far they've played a bunch of practice matches in stifling hot conditions and one H&A match. Even in this professional age, playing a high intensity sport in 35+ heat makes life much, much harder. You fatigue much faster, recover slower and can easily become dehyrdated/dizzy if you push too hard without enough rest. And in every game this week there were numerous players cramping throughout the second half so you can't take much from that.
I do agree that it's concerning how many one-on-one contests we lost due to lack of strength, but it wouldn't surprise me if we did run games out better than most this year.

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
best we tank now anyway for the next 5 years bu8ild up an army of great picks - by then stanley, mcevoy, steven, simpkin, newnes, saad will be season pros. I believe we can build around em. We clearly need a complete rebuild and lets do it how we did in 2000. That is tank and bottom out. Priority picks still available.

Better than them being on the bench without being able to contribute.
Keep enjoying living a pipe dream.

Get your head out of the past ,it doesn't count for anything and as much as you were a fan of Eddy and Mini they are gone while Armo will be here influencing the outcome ogf games for years to come !!Spinner wrote:skeptic wrote:Spinner wrote:Looks like Armitage is still cramping early in games according to the coaches press conference.

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Gee we do seem skinny compared to the teams running around today.
Perhaps it will pay off in the long run

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Was very disappointing considering all the hype of the Colorado training.
As for Armo, he might have cramped up less if others also stepped up with the same endeavour.
At least he was winning his own ball.
It is going to be a long lean year I fear...

Re: Club Fitness and Training Intensity
Yes,
Eddy and Mini are both better than Armitage and Steven... That clear as a bell.
I'm pretty sure David was listed as StK best.... How many times did our GF star duo ever get a BOG.... Armo did, 6 weeks prior to the GF
Given hindsight, surely an admission of poor selection can be made.... Ross is gone... And the mountain of evidence is overwhelming on one side of the argument.

chest bulk, tricep definition and maybe the occassional bicep vein would be niceSainterK wrote:Gee we do seem skinny compared to the teams running around today.

I often make the mental note that our players just dont compare, & if they bother to utilise our state of the art training facility
I remember how much was made of gehrig being the bench press king, and with good result, when he tackled, you didnt escape the python

i do think we are quite skinny....
our whole ground defence is quite average...
also, we seem to have no-one that can take a contested mark, aside from big ben and hickey...
everyone else seems to just make a contest, but never stick the mark

Didn't Armo spend the last quarter on the bench during that BOG performance.
Corkie or Cramping?
And Steven was injured with groins.
This explains why this fantasy of them not being picked, occurred. But you already know this.

Or am I just realistic to think that this pipe dream of Armitage being a superior athlete and footballer in his third season doesn't actually exist...
He wasn't. People need to stop rewriting the past.
He has said he couldn't run out games in the past, his own words. And couldn't run out after his 7th preseason. For whatever reason.
