Cant see hoe Stanley plays if he plays forward and cant see how Blake or Simpkin, preferably Blake plays, if he plays back. It makes no sense IMO.

Any word on Sam Fisher and how he's going?

I'm not really sure what you're saying but I think you are still upset about too many talls. Why can't Maister play out wide deep- he plays more mid sized lead up forward with a defensive edge, Rooey at CHF Rhys deep FF. Leaves Blake as FB, Simpkin in the third tall defender role isn't weird seeing we are missing Fisher and Dempster. Roberton CHB. Big Mac primary ruck dropping back in the hole and if he plays Hickey resting forward.

So with that line up we have 4 talls in the forward line. It never works and leaves no spot for one of Milera or Saad. If Stanley goes back we have Blake, Simpkin, Stanley and gwilt as 4 talls. Even Roberton is tall. There is no need against GC.

Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
CJ may be a useful sub this year. Last year from memory it was Cripps a bit. Where Cripps was more offensive, CJ is more defensive and can be brought in to play anywhere, with real burst, as a defensive utility.
Clinton Jones; when you absolutely positively have to take out the most damaging running opposition player, accept no substitutes.

Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
A sub should really be a dangerous player, capable of coming on and taking advantage of tiring players.... Would CJ be damaging coming on fresh??
IMO Blake will play CHB
Simpkin FB
Gwilt Third tall
Roberton rebounding utility
Stanley in the FP, will be subbed off after HT.... On will come another runner... Perhaps Ray

I have my doubts whether Stanley will play, so it's Hickey in - Stanley out for team balance.
Also, the game is set up for Jones on Ablett.

Good luck to those selected, and good luck to those at Sandy still pushing for selection....
We need both ingredients to a successful year.

Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
Agree. They will fly the lot up, look at the opposition 25, weather and how all are players are and then pick the final 22 and then the sub. I think at least 21 of the named 22 will play though.saintspremiers wrote:Irrelevant.bigcarl wrote:If Ray's named fourth on the interchange does that mean he is sub?
Anyone in the 22 named can end up being sub - actually 25 as they can make late changes.
4 talls (not counting when the ruck drifts forward)in the forward line? I think not. 3 is a real chance.
Stanley is versatile. Up forward he can play as key forward, but with his pace and agility can also play HF or even wing.
One aspect he is adept at was going high up the ground, and then using his pace to get back leaving any tall opponent in his wake.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Schneids and Kosi appear to be doing their part at Sandy today, Lever playing forward and kicked a goal as well.

can you please say this in english. thanksDave McNamara wrote:Yeah, they probably won't line up as above, and I understand why people might want Rhys Lightning and Sippa in defence, but these two will be topflight forwards for us, so I want 'em playing mostly up there... now.SainterK wrote:Teams announced. Hickey and Roberton the newbies.
Fisher didn't make it up
B: Blake, Gwilt, Roberton
HB: Geary, Simpkin, Gilbert
C: Newnes, Hayes, Dal Santo
HF: Siposs, Riewoldt, Milera
F: Milne, Maister, Stanley
Ruck: McEvoy, Armitage, Steven
Inter: Saad, Hickey, Jones, Ray
Emerg: Wright, Lee, Dennis, Lane
Next we just gotta Tom Lee in there somewhere as well.
Finally, if we squeeze a couple of games in for Buddy White sometime this year... perfect... That bloke will be an absolute star... read it and weep Skinks... he should have been yours, but you chose Ted Bundy instead to provide some companionship for FIGJAM's performing ego.
PS: I wonder if we can get away with naming four emergencies...
I don't know who you are talking aout

Was just going off the sandy zebs twitter feed
Saintly, dave was referring that Dennis and lane look like different players
Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
Saintly & SainterK,
Dave is referring to Collingwood selecting Brodie Grundy ahead of Spencer White. Rumour is the Pies were set to select White with one of their first rounders. They didnt expect Grundy to slide so far so they selected him instead of White.

Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
Interesting team for Round 1. If stanley plays expect him to play back - no reason to play him back pre season and then not use that . If he is out look for a runner to come in . Gwilt will be used more as a runner this seaosn i think with Stanley Blake( Fisher) and Simpkins stay at home backs on the bigger 3.
Kosi not in best 22, Schnieder missed a lot of footy - would love to see him as a half back considering his foot skills and the younger small forwards we now have.
Danger game this but must win as this season will be so close cannot afford to drop these type of games.

Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
I just want to se a team run out switched on and competing hard. Went to the opener last year against Port and the intensity was well below average.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
Re: Saints Team Rd 1 v Gold Coast
I know most aren't happy with 3 talls but you've gotta remeber that Rhys is hardly a lumbering big man that slows us down. From what Watters is saying he'll probably do a number of roles forward and back so he'll give us flexibility. Having watched our lack of height last year I'm pumped at the prospect of having 3 blokes around the ground that can dominate in the air and all 3 have proven they can do that (Stan, Mac & Hickey). These 3 combined with Roo and the beaumeister should provide us with a pretty strong marking team.

Granted, but thus far doesn't get as much of the pill as a medium or small.PJ wrote:I know most aren't happy with 3 talls but you've gotta remeber that Rhys is hardly a lumbering big man that slows us down.
