No one would be my guess?!

Therein lies the problem..... I don't reckon the players would have done either!

Most of our senior players played and were beat by the bottom team, regardless of game importance, it would sting them... They are competitive people and wouldn't like losing marbles, let alone a game of footy?

It may serve more good than bad, coming up against the GC ...... It may well take out any arrogant confidence we might have

However, I am concerned about skill level of at least 6 players

Our favour I'm assuming. Not so confident then. Does that mean you think we are underdone or more a case of where you see the fortunes of both teams in 2013?

Was there today - wasn't great - moved to sydney oct 2011 - first time ive taken kids to see em since then

can say
Murdoch is built and could become a player
Wright- almost has a footy body on him already
small forwards terrible today - malera being laconic is one thing but took it to a new level. tdl looked a better bet than malera from what i saw
blake still looked dependable and if you were picking on form rather than potential for late in the year or next year - he is still starting 22
gilbert's much maligned disposal was pretty good and he ran harder and longer than anyone on the field - i thought he was great
dury still out on lee
geary good
maister lay down mazaire for supercoach team

GWS could be very good next year

Roberton looked pretty good today and had a run with about 3 bounces and actually looked reasonably quick once he got going

I'm not that fussed by today's result....

I know we are on the slide...we missed our chance and we now have a plethora of average players with little AFL experience...

can't wait until we play the Bulldogs...what a game of skill that will be....

Amen. A voice of reason in a sea of insanity. Round one is when the real stuff starts. Everything else is a dress rehearsal. "Practice" match being the operative word.

Went to the game today. Was pretty hot out there. Key thing for me was that GWS were going hard in the last quarter. Due to the heat, the Giants had their huddle in the shade right in front of us and Sheedy was challenging them pretty hard - got the impression that the win was imortant for them today.

Our delivery into the forward line was teriible - except for a 10 minute burst in middle of second quarter. A lot of questionable decisions going into forward line. Riewoldt works so so hard...and so often the ball is kicked at his shoelaces...

Low crowd allowed us to hear the boys yelling at each other out on the ground. Got the impression that, as we have seen, the 'switch' is a key part of our game plan this year.

Newnes a positive. Hickey looks the goods. Steven becoming a gun. Siposs is definitely the new 'goddard' type across half back - seems to have the tools but just needs to put it all together with some goo decision making.

Few injury concerns... blake turned an ankle but was able to come back. Armo limped off quite gingerly near the end of the game...could have been cramp..but calf looked strapped afterwards, hopefully he pulls up ok. Roo had icepack on his knee after game. That's probably the norm these days but he did get up slowly in 4th quarter after being tangled up in a tackle.

I feel today said more about GWS than us. Can definitely see their potential starting to come through.

You're a classic Damo… truly exciting if we win a practice match, meaningless if we lose

GWS GIANTS 16.6 (102) def ST KILDA 12.14 (86) at Blacktown

ST KILDA has suffered a 144-point turnaround from its debut meeting with GWS Giants late last year, falling to the baby club to end its pre-season campaign.

The Saints leaked six last-quarter goals as they were overpowered by the wooden-spoon favourites in a shock result at Blacktown.

It prompted Giants coach Kevin Sheedy to issue a stern warning after the match to nemesis Sydney, declaring "they wouldn't want to treat us with any disrespect" when they do battle in Round 1.

Beau Maister goaled to give the Saints the lead late in the third term, but it was all GWS after that as the home side cruised to a rare victory.

Jack Newnes again impressed, while Gold Coast recruit Tom Hickey was spared the majority of ruck duties as Ben McEvoy took control

St Kilda's Jack Newnes played with intensity and kicked the goal late in the third quarter that levelled the scores before they took a one-point lead into the fourth.

St Kilda coach Scott Watters refused to blame the warm conditions for the Saints' fade out but conceded there had been an "accumulation of load" for them after all their pre-season games were played in plus-30 degree heat.

He said he wouldn't head into round one concerned over the result and the Saints were pleased with what they'd got out of the pre-season competition as a whole.
"I think you need to look at your pre-season in its entirety, or the NAB Cup series in its entirety," Watters said.

"We got really good minutes into our players, we now have an opportunity to freshen up and I think if you probably look at GWS's side after nine or 10 players freshen up in a week and come back, you see how they're bouncing over the top of the ground.
"I'd much rather be preparing for round one than preparing for NAB four."

Seems to be the perennial St Kilda problem, something that cost us dearly in 1997, 2004, 2009 & 2010.

Probably the main things that stood out for me were- Steven works hard to get the ball, then butchers a lot of disposals (GWS mids worked harder at the centre bounces and delivered the ball much better), Jones got a bit of the ball but terrible disposal and least cost us one goal, not much else of note in the midfield. Poor work by our small/ mid forwards, stayed back for the easy kick and didn't work hard enough to get front position- Milera and TDL just didn't do enough work, so I expect Scheider and possibly Dunnell to come in for Milera and TDL. Only a practice match, but its also where players are showing the coach how keen they are to get a senior game..yesterday's effort wouldn't do much to attract new members or sponsors. Hopefully Watters will kick a few bums and we'll come out firing for Round 1

I didn't think we butchered it that badly or particularly more than them. Our shots missed and we had largely ineffectual small forwards. We were in the game until the last few minutes and it could have gone either way. I don't think anyone will lose much sleep over the result. Our backline is decimated and losing fisher just makes another hole to leak goals.

the GWS team looks a more cohesive unit than GC- sometimes having a big star can make kids feel they have no right to be up there with them. I like the fact that they already have Cameron as a genuine forward and big Patton is just a imposing hulk of a guy- he will hurt you even if he doesn't out mark you. Rucks are good, Green is going to be Cousins like. Several good solid mids as well as a nice group of low profile mature players. Good backline with Mohr and Bugg backed by the underrated Davis.
