I've always been a defender of Kosi because he's been a warrior for us. Ask the players and staff about his courage and ability to play with injuries. It's all caught up with him in the past couple of years. P66 is right. He now sits behind several others for a spot in the side and on form, his prospects of getting the 5 games he needs to make 200, are approaching zero. Unfortunately, I see Roy Orbison moving in from stage right, ready to sing a little song about Kosi's career, called "It's over!"

I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

I've been a big fan of Kosi over the years, but he's now probably behind Roo, Maister, Lee and Stanley as a forward and behind McEvoy, Hickey, Stanley and Blake as a ruck. I'm not unhappy that he's still on the list - you always need tall backups, but that is all Kosi is now. His inability to give a second effort is his main downfall, combined with his total lack of body strength in a marking contest.

With that said, there's no point in him retiring mid season. If we get a few injuries to our talls then I'd rather us have the option of plonking Kosi at full forward than having to play a Fisher/Gilbert alongside Riewoldt with 3 defenders hanging off him. At the very least, Kosi commands a tall, strong defender and provides a structure for the smalls to set up around. Who knows, he might even hit some good form over the year. We saw him play brilliantly in pre season matches last year, maybe his program is geared towards peaking later in the season.

Why would it be embarrassing for him to play VFL?

It's a state league, a lot of people train their arses off to get a crack at that level??

Kosi doesn't seem to be the sort of guy who is too arrogant to think he is above all of that... To me he is a loyal servant, a clubman who will do as he is asked,....

If his role this year is to mentor kids in the VFL and play when needed then I reckon he'd do it!!

I reckon he'd clean the heads If he was asked by his coach.

I'd hate to see N Riewoldt, Dal, Lenny and stars like that just dwindling out.... Their last games should be on the big stage. But Kos knows well and truly he is not in that league

Leave that to the coaches. I'm sure they know what they're doing

Who said it would be embarrassing? I must have missed that post. Have no idea why you are comparing Kosi to other who play in state leagues. My local club has had plenty who were happy for a seconds game at state leagues but that has nothing to do with Kosi. It is my opinion that he may retire mid year if it looks hopeless for him to get a game. You obviously think otherwise which is fine.

You said it would be a low point of his career??

I would ask why??? It would be nothing of the sorts... Low point of his career was 2006 when he hit the umpire at Casey reserves after coming back to early from a severe concussion?!

Many players finish in the lower grades
His career has been solid, all things considered, he will still get some games in 2013 I bet. but a first 22 plAyr he is not... He is proud, but not unrealistic methinks?!

Yes I said it would be a low point of his career but when did anyone say it would be embarrassing? And you say hitting the umpire was the low point and I say something else. Maybe we are both right or wrong. I said a low a low point not the low point. Lets wait till the end of the year and ask him which is his lowest point niot that it matters anyway.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. He should have done the honourable thing and retired at the end of last season.
If he is such a great club man he should save the club the cost of his contract this year.

I will guarantee he will retire before the bye, he won't like playing at Sandy, because I reckon he'll struggle there as well.

plugger66 wrote:Alright people are going to think this is completely unfair as we have only played 4 practice games and Kosi has only played 2 of those but I will say it anyway. Shoot me. Kosi will struggle to play a game in the seniors this year. Everything I say here is only on 3 quarters because I had to leave early. Happy for those who saw the whole game to tell me things changed in the last. Yesterday the club seemed to be saying Kosi you play forward just about all game and we will put the undersized Blake against Jamer for the game with the smallest breaks for Blake to rest. This meant Kosi was up forward for just about the whole game. I think Kosi touched the ball twice by 3 quarter time. Even got the ironical cheers when he took his first mark late in the third quarter. So people will say it is very early in the season. That is true as we havent even started the season but there are some on here that say Kosi plays better fresh so he should only play about 10 games the year. Well IMO that wont work as he is no where near ready for AFL footy and playing at Sandy is still a game of footy and wont keep you fresh.

Yesterday Lee was clearly better than him and he hasnt played much more footy this year than Kosi. Rooy whilst not doing a great deal was much better but that probably isnt fair because he is a freak. Meister was best of all forwards and we still have maybe fit Hickey and even Stanley in there somewhere even though he is likely to play back. Even young Jessie Hogan who is to young to play this year was much better than Kosi and he played one out at FF for the Dees to who were always on the back foot.

I know all this is very tough after 2 games but I am usually a players man even though I have occasionally said Kosi is struggling. I suppose what im saying is should Kosi play the first half of the year and if he is struggling should he retire with dignity or should he complete the season even if he knows he wont t get a game. Whatever happens I am happy for the Saints to pay him his full wages as he has been a great servant of the club and yes he has been well rewarded but I would still give him his full payment. The other question is if Kosi was to retire are you allowed to upgrade or must it be an injury. I know we have spots anyway but just interested if anyone knows.

Anyway I really hope i am proved wrong by Kosi as it will add to my ever increasing figure.
Yeah, fair call Plugger. Hickey, Stanley and McEvoy should all be picked ahead of him. I mean if you're gonna have kosi just playing forward you're likely to get the same production or more out of Stanley these days. And, on top of Stanley's height, he 's an athletic beast that can sprint and tackle etc.

Kosi these days just moves around the forward line like an old paddle steamer turning around in the Murray.

I believe another example of why we wouldn't give BJ another year on his contract . We've been let down too many times by ageing stars getting huge money , not able to play at there best !
If Kosi was out of contract last year then we be talking about him as another past player !

Unless We lose macca and hickey to injury , i carn't see him making the seniors .
but as i know F@#$ all about footy , he'll probably play round 1 .

What was Kosi's best return last year? Better than 4 behinds that is for sure. A new player has to be better than an established player to force him out of the team. Lee is not there yet.

dont you think he has already been gifted those 5 games over the last two years?

Well, it looks like most agree on this one. Kosi's agility has been deteriorating for several years now and the game has got much faster. He has been played over the past couple of years primarily because we have not had anyone else of his size. Now we have and it appears that he may well have to languish at Sandringham, dependednt on injuries to others.

Perhaps our first couple of "should win" games (I remember Port Adelaide last year) could be a last chance to see if he can build into some form. However, he had similar opportunities in a couple of key games last year, but couldn't make it happen.

He has had more chances than are given to most. However, if his form is reasonable, he should be helped to 200 games.

If Hickey was no good and Maister was a dud then the Big Kos will still be a lock for full forward.
But kudos to our recruitment staff and coaching that this is no longer the case and we have better options now. Big Kos will now have to earn his spot if but I suspect he will make the move back to the farm. Has been an awesome warrior and workhorse for the Saints.

If these games are should win which like you said remember Port I would rather give a young kid a chance to get some confidence. Kosi has one game at the most get ahead of at least 2 of Maister, Lee and Hickey. And he is no hope of being ahead of maister what ever he does next game.

I'm with you Baz.

Scott is emphatic that Stanley is part of the defensive six, he should not be in the equation of who plays forward.

Scott also talks about Lee as a prospect in the future, that he will push his way in over time.

Hickey may rotate with Ben, but I've seen nothing to suggest he is good for a goal when playing forward, though he seems to clunk a few.

I see either of these three scenarios playing out on a week to week basis.

Either Roo Maister Kosi play with 3 smalls
Roo Maister play + 4 smalls
Roo Maister Hickey and 3 smalls

I don't agree there is a line through his name yet, and I don't see him as guaranteed either.

I would hope that if he deserves his spot we support him, I hope that if another deserves his spot we support him.

Least we have depth, and nobody including Roo and Kosi, have to play injured like has been in recent years.

I dont think there is line either. What i am going on is the 2 games he has played and that should be the only thing we go on. He was easily worst for us yesterday and that isnt a good thing considering his form in the second half of last season. he has one game to go. If he doesnt improve and pass lee and Hickey he cannot play until the others fail and he steps up.

I agree also. And even if Kosi struggles to earn those 5 games, I'd still try and nurse him to the 200.

So hey Pluggs, don't give up on that concept..., and don't give up on romance in footy either.

being last on the options list has been the problem for too long now, we have to improve

Think injuries through his career, especially earlier on when he should not have played with an injured back, have cruelled him.
Also think that supposedly legal shepherd from Gianseracusa, which now would rightfully get him 5 weeks, affected him more than we know.
He will be a handy back up, and who knows maybe using him sparlingly could be a real blessing, if we we're togo into the finals with him in a similar form he was in early last season might just be handy.
What we really need from him, and Beau, is not only to take their fair share of marks, but to crash packs to bring the ball loose to what I consider the mostt dangerous group of small forwards in the competition.
The Gino incident was indeed really significant.

Wasn't there a rule called unduly rough play or the like?

I wish that little turd was nailed.
The "Gino incident"...whats that????
