Big Beau

Post: # 1303321Post stkfc1 »

Just finished watching the replay of Sundays game and was really impressed with Beau's efforts He played a lone hand against two premiership defenders in Richards and Grundy and IMHO came out on top.His ability to make a contest and then follow up with second and third efforts was really impressive. He just wills himself to the next contest even though he was clearly exhausted. Would have kicked a few more if he hadn't run himself into the ground I don't see Kosi getting a game if this sort of form continues. He's going to get the third best defender every week with Roo and Milney around. He leads up the ground exceptionally well which is going to help keep Roo closer to goals and the fact he can split a pack brings in our new and improved mosquito fleet. Shows what real dedication to improve can do.

Impressed by him... Was last year, considering his body condition... He monstered the VFL, showed a bit in the AFL

He's a big strong body, contest hard, can clunk a mark....

He'll work well with Roo.... Siposs, Dunell, Stanley working through there and surrounded by small goal kickers

Maybe the added Beaunus is that Kosi might actually put up a fight for a spot?

Dominated VFL? He kicked a couple of bags against rubbish opposition, and stuffed up several games against reasonable opposition.

Was ordinary in AFL, had one lucky game against Melbourne, hardly a benchmark.

I think the question isn't that he will be a game breaker - he wont especially against quality defence BUT Iam interested in seeing what its like having a second or 3rd tallish fwd target ho actually competes when the ball hits the ground, pressures with second/3rd efforts and who doesn't need a 40m clear run and jump at the pack to make an impact.

Maisters aint a star hes a workhorse but as long as he doesn't go awol for 3 qtrs. after starring in q1 (see Kosi) and continues to bring smalls into the game Im happy.

So the game he kicked 5 was a shocker.... Because he got 3 Brownlow votes?!

Averaged 10 disposals, 1.5 goals, 1.2 tackles....not disgraceful... He was not AFL fit

VFL... I have it on good authority, that he was rated the best power forward in the VFL at midway point of the season....

I said he had a lucky one against Melbourne, got 3 Brownlow votes and what would the umpires know anyway.

If he was not AFL fit why was he selected?

I have it on good authority that he is not a power forward, except in the WAFL, the VFL, the SSFL or the Ammos.

Give him a go. He came over from being a weekend player who was knocking out house frames during the day. He was handy and has got himself so fit now he looks a different player. He is looking impressive so far and should be good if he competes like he did on the weekend.

If Maister had maintained his average over a full year, he would have been top five in the goalkicking. He kicked 4.2 against the minor premiers and was held goalless once.

I'd say Maister is our second best tall forward right now. If Stanley's hurt or playing defence, Maister is a lock for R1.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

Yep. I reckon he deserves the benefit of the doubt after his efforts on the weekend. Practice games or not, they were still against AFL quality opposition. Haven't noticed too many young kids drafted as KPP tearing it up in the NAB Cup from any club - including the one we drafted (who tore it up in the WAFL last year) I reckon he gave us some real reason for optimism this year.

Could be a great decoy. He competes, like Kosi used to do before he stopped doing it consistently......

All I ever ask from any Saints player is they give the best with what theyve got - and I really feel Beau is doing that. Cant knock the bloke. Sure hes not the most athletic bloke and doesnt have a 2 metre vertical leap or incredible agility. But hes a big honest work horse who tries hard, competes, is courageous and trys to do the team things when he can.. Looks likes hes a lock for full forward for the first half part of the year.

I like what people have been saying about the Beaumeister here, but I didn't see very much of it at all on Sunday.
Yes he got to contests, and contested, and contested again. Which is more than Kosi gave us most of last year.
But .... he couldn't hold a mark, and he couldn't kick a goal (except for that one exceptional snap from the boundary!)
He was well beaten by experienced defenders. Just because they were experienced doesn't suddenly mean Beau did really really relatively well.
I do think The Meister is our best bet for full forward this season. But Sunday left me slightly concerned, not celebrating, like some here.

Spot on. This preseason has done him wonders and perhaps he is now AFL fit.

Also, he's fixed some of his mental health issues by changing his surname. Blokes don't do that sort of thing on a whim (I'm excluding gay marriage name changes as that's totally different).

What game were you watching? He wasn't close to BOG but he certainly created stacks of chances for our plethora of small blokes. He also got himself to the right positions plenty of times as well, just failed to hold the mark. Certainly didn't look out of his depth or that Mundy or Richards were monstering him at all. He kicked straight like he normally does, he would have had at least 3 goals and everyone would have been raving about his game.
