I hope I'm wrong but Rhys looks like he going to be the type whose body struggles with the wear and tear of AFL footy. Be prepared for a many of a Xavier Clarke moment.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

He's all pace. If he bulks up too much that will take away his best weapon AND put more pressure on those twiggy knees.

Re: Stanley knee injury
A hyper extension can happen to anyone, has nothing to do with how your built, or how prone you are to injury, you can do it getting out of bed.
All the best to him, he was looking ok back there.

Re: Stanley knee injury
Just bruising and no structural damage. Didn't Goodes play the following week after a similar injury last year or the year before? It doesn't sound too bad but cos it's Stanley the club will likely be conservative.
Re: Stanley knee injury
me thinks it has more to do with the ground then his body, see the moment TDL rolled his ankle. Crap to allow concerts this close out from the season. But great news

Re: Stanley knee injury
A lot of big guys take time to build up - I'm not too worried about Rhys I think he just needs to grow into his body a bit. The hammys are not good because you don't want to get them scarred up too much but that could have happened to any one. and won't be a problem.

Re: Stanley knee injury
Rhys needs to get stronger and more balanced. This doesn't mean putting on tons of muscle, but to just build strength gradually over time - tendons and bones become stronger and more dense as well as adding muscle mass. He really does look like he could get injured at every contest he's involved in, with his long limbs flailing around getting caught under opponents.
It wouldn't surprise me that in ten years time, players in the mould of Stanley will be drafted at 18 and then not even begin playing regular senior footy of any kind until age 22-23. We see a lot of young talented talls thrown to the wolves early and never recover from the battering they receive (Kosi, Josh Fraser, Charman, McIntosh, Gardiner and now possibly Kreuzer).
Eventually Stanley will get to the level of strength and stability required as long as he doesn't ruin his joints and hammies in the next couple of years.

Re: Stanley knee injury
I see Rhys a lot at my local supermarket (Moorabbin Safeway) and I almost cringe every time I see him because his upper body is so disproportionate to his legs. He has a wide frame and a bit of meat on top but his legs are so slim you wonder how they hold him upright. On TV he doesn't look that bad for some reason but in the flesh its scary how thin those pins are. I know some people have a really hard time building up leg mass and I'm sure the sport scientists are doing their thing (legally I hope) but without building up those twigs I worry about his long term prospects.
Re: Stanley knee injury
Does Stanley even squat? As far as leg mass and strength goes squats along with a massive appetite is crucial.

Re: Stanley knee injury
Shame about the injury, but think it was a real positive that he was played down back from the start of a game. I liked what I saw and, nothing against others, but it was good having someone down back with the height and reach to match it with the tall forwards.
