A 31 year old CHF who has has the best part of his career be opposed to 2 opponent, and ran himself ragged.... Who, has had modified pre seasons since 2008, has had three knee procedures with relation to degeneration.....has had a hamstring tendon tear of 12 cm...who looks half the player he was between 2003-2009 (btw which is still quite good)

Nick will be lucky to be around in 2015 and I would be happy if he contributed 50goals in 2013 and played 20 games

Expensive at that output! Tex Walker, Buddy! Jack, Kennedy, Cloke, Hawkinsare now better than St Nick... None will be as good as he was at his prime though, not even BUDDY!

Why not? He has played at an elite level alomost 2 to 3 fold of that produced by BJ over the years and there is not that much of an age difference between them and you could argue that Roo will still produce at a higher level than BJ over the next few years. BJ has played like a sook for the last few years to the point where you could argue that he is a downhill skier. With the exception of 09/10 he has been a sook and if the Bomber players don't give him the service he wants then what's not to say he will drop the shoulders and keep sooking. Fevola had a better constitution than he did some days.

Over the years

You said it..... Not about that, in the coming years...

I actually don't reckon any team would touch Nick.... Unless he came for bugger all...

No slight on him, he's earned ever bit of his multi million contracts in his prime

All those players are in teams capable of challenging. Roo could be a better player if he was in a team that was challenging.

But hang on a second, the past is all the Bombers had to judge BJ on. And in the past 2 years he has played like a...well, let's just say BJ made up his mind to leave this club in 2011, possible even shortly after GF2.

Hawthorn?? No

Collingwood.... Lynch... He would be worth twice as much, so about 400-500 but that would blow their cap and they lose Daisy

WCE Darling, Kennedy, Natinui

Sydney... Goodes, Sam Reid... Is equivalent to Goodes, not as important as Reid going fwd.

Essendon... Hurley would be their marquee forward and they want one of their two rucks resting there...

Carlton
Could not afford e
Any of our stars and would not give up any of theirs to get one

Roo's only value away from the Saints is as a marquee at GC as he is a local hero who made good and would be a huge bonus for the games development up there. Carey at Adelaide style, gets memberships coming in but can still have the odd outstanding game.

BJ is as much a gamble for the Bombers as any player having been paid a high price to switch clubs and if the Bombers struggle this year then BJ probably will struggle also because he is a proven downhill skier. Argualbly the most overrated number one draft pick of all time. Had 2 elite years in a team that was flying and the rest have been serviceable. If he performs consistently at an elite level in an averagep side like Judd has at Carlton then maybe he can call himself elite. We'll see I suppose.

Why is this conversation around Roo's value now?

I for one believe he has been slightly over-paid however he is the marquee man and the leading forward so what do you expect?

If we get 50 goals out of Roo this year and the season after then we have done well.

Considering the now-abundance of smalls we have and (hopefully) the ability to play them all at the same time and we have one of the most dangerous and potentially best forward lines going around

BJ or Roo? And what bearing does the 1986 National Draft have on what happens in 2013?

Someone suggested that BJ was the most overrated number 1 pick in history which from that list looks a little mean spirited. From that list the number 1 pick is a little over rated.

Over Career Brendon would be in the best few.....

Roo is worth every penny to us..... Heart an soul player.... Leader

Not worth more than 400 over two anywhere else, except perhaps GC as has been mentioned

There are a couple of premiership players in that bunch and one that is a good chance to be a premiership player.

And many brilliant non premiership players

Gee you could argue that Des Headland and Drew Banfield were hardly average premiership players

Fair point, though it doesn't say much for your interpersonal skills. Haven't you had to deal with a lot of thick people in your life? Having zero consideration for all of them sounds like you're approaching psychopathy.

Read your post wrongly, I thought the question was regarding how much would each player be worth for a single season 2013. My bad.

If you're talking multi-year contract then I would agree that Goddard would garner the highest offer. That is hardly in dispute. He is younger than the others. The question is how much more was he worth offering?

He was elite for 2 years but he has slipped the last two years. He has still played well, but he has not been performing at an elite level. Dal has (2nd in the Brownlow and AA in 2011), Lenny has (2012 B&F winner), Chips has (B&F winner 2011), Milne has (dual AA).

I really can't see that Goddard deserved to get a contract offer that values him as an elite player for each of the next 4 years (what the Bombers have offered). He hasn't played at that level for 2 years now. Sure he has the potential to do so, but there is also a strong likelihood that his best days are behind him if you look at the arc of his career to date. We offered him a contract that would have seen him paid in our best two players. Pretty fair IMO.

Oh and you cannot seriously be putting Goddard in the same league as Pavlich (6 x B&F, 6 x AA) and Goodes (dual Brownlow medallist, 4 x AA)?

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
