We Will Win More Than 9
I couldn't help but notice that the football sages at the Herald Sun, colloquially known as the Current Bun, think the Saints will win only 9 games this season. Apparently they base this revelation on our aging list and the fact that our newbies will take more than one season to get up to speed.
I say BS to that. We have recruited Tom Lee who would have to be ready to go, TDL who is absolutely ready to go, Dylan Roberton ready to go plus I hear whispers that Brodie Murdoch is not far off being ready to go. These guys would have to make an impact immediately.
2012 wasn't great but neither was it a complete disaster. There were a number of games we lost by a handful of points that we should have/could have won. Sure our list is getting old but old is not over the hill. Lenny played last season with a major heart defect and he was still a champion.
I only see positive steps forward in 2013 not going backwards. We will make the 8 and who knows what might happen if we do. So I give a very strong one fingered salute to our friends at News Limited. Go Sainters.

I don't get the aging list talk !
Surely if we got rid of milne , hayes , kosi , roo and blakey we'd probably be one of the youngest lists !

I reckon 9 wins will be about right for this year…
Lee, TDL, Hickey - all unproven, Roberton GOP at this stage.
If they all come on and become stars in their first year with us then sure we'll make the 8, but I think this is highly doubtful.

We have the oldest list ... followed by Sydney (who won it last year), then Collingwood and Hawthorn (who could easily have won it).mr six o'clock wrote:I don't get the aging list talk !

There's a lot to be said for experienced and mature bodies.

Re: We Will Win More Than 9
And last season most sides would have welcomed Milney, Lenny & Roo into their starting 22. Ageing they may be, but still damaging players......... injury aside I would expect those 3 to still hold their own during 2013bigcarl wrote:We have the oldest list ... followed by Sydney (who won it last year), then Collingwood and Hawthorn (who could easily have won it).mr six o'clock wrote:I don't get the aging list talk !

Who the hell knows what's going to happen. For all those Nostradamas's why don't you go and buy a lotto ticket and enjoy your winnings.
9 wins is about right my arse. Tell us that at the years end

Dean Polo, Adam Pattison, Charlie Gardiner, Sean Charles and Michael Frost were all "ready to go" when they were picked up. That doesn't mean we got anything useful out of them.

And 9 games now is like winning 6 or 7 pre GC and GWS!

Re: We Will Win More Than 9
I would have thought between 9 and 11 wins. Certainly have no problem with the media thinking that. It certainly isnt a conspiracy against us. And I think the point of an aging list is the old guys are still clearly our best players and players of their age do not improve.

Who's to say that Lee, TDL, Roberton and Murdoch aren't crap? They're not exactly Goddard or Judd.magnifisaint wrote:Yes but they were crapbergholt wrote:Dean Polo, Adam Pattison, Charlie Gardiner, Sean Charles and Michael Frost were all "ready to go" when they were picked up. I'd agree with plugger here. 9-11 wins is what i would have thought.plugger66 wrote:I would have thought between 9 and 11 wins. Certainly have no problem with the media thinking that. Also agree the fact our oldest players are still the best is the key issue. Not only will they not improve anymore but the gulf between them and the next tier is too much to expect results like top 4 etc.
Having said that , I'm happy in the direction we are taking and very happy with Scott Watters.

Re: We Will Win More Than 9
It's all wild guessing at this time of year. I still think that we are the most difficult club to get a handle on for 2013. My guess is that we will finish 6-10, depending on which way the close games go !!

Nine wins and finishing outside the Eight sounds pretty spot on to me.

Re: We Will Win More Than 9
I just reckon the core group will want one last crack at it and they will take inspiration from Sydney's premiership with its ageing list.
How we start the season is going to have a big influence on how we finish it. Got to get on a roll early.
And the young guys carry no scars from 2009-2010.

Agree, luck with injuries will obviously play a big part in determining our final position.Eastern wrote:It's all wild guessing at this time of year. Hopefully we have "one last crack"
Re: We Will Win More Than 9
8-11 wins. Dont think we will make the 8. Getting older, young players arent standouts, new arrivals arent known to be future/current stars. Fact is, we are going down. Said the same two years ago, nothing has made me change my mind. Look forward to the future.

R1: Gold Coast (Metricon) 1
R3: GWS (Manuka) 2
R4: Essendon (Etihad)
R5: Sydney (Westpac)

R20: Hawthorn (Etihad)
R21: Sydney (SCG)
R22: Gold Coast (Etihad) 6

So that is 6 games that we should win. The rest are up for grabs as I am expecting one of the most competitive years ever. Even Gold coast will be harder to beat this year.
