Im sorry for sticking up for a player who I think has done a great job for someone so young. I mean it really is illogical thinking Hickey will be first ruckman at the end of the year based on about 98% of ruckmen over the last 20 years. Cant remember to many ruckmen being first ruck after their 3rd year.

And I express plenty of opinions but when there are fools with stupid ideas then they deserve a comment. Just like when someone suggests nearly every player mentioned as possible trade would be good for the club.gringo wrote:I have never read an opinion that was generated from an internal thought. Every player could potentially be a possible trade candidate...... Not likely or probably.....
But possibly, why not in someone's opinion..... I know it's not as valuable as your opinion, but it can be expressed on a site designed for expressing ones opinion....
Just like state league players are a waste of time, and that why ther there and have been overlooked as kids I suppose???
CJ, Milera, Saad, Lee, Dunnell..... Good to see the stk hierarchy is not close minded
Not to mention Duigan, Podsiadly, Barlow, Callinan, Krakour, Mitchell, Sewell.... And a host of others

No idea if you are having a go at me but I certainly never said state league is a waste of time and I havent mentioned trading and I never said someone cant have an opinion so your comments arent about me. maybe if you werent so arrogant you could quote so we know who you are writing about.BigMart wrote:Every player could potentially be a possible trade candidate...... You are Ferrer in the Ferrer vs Djokovic match I just witnessed. Ferrer was doing the fist pump when he'd win a game, but he was no match for the master. BigMart just pounds you and treats you like a puppet on a string and you come back with; "Have no idea what that...means....Pity you didnt make sense"

Actually there are not too many decent state league players that have become best 18 players apart from the above...BigMart wrote:Every player could potentially be a possible trade candidate...... Not likely or probably.....

The mature rookie list has only been in play for a few years and I would say has a much higher success rate than the traditional youth draft. Before that it was nearly unheard of in the modern era to pick up guys who missed out on being drafted straight out of the development leagues.

good discussion piece though.
One point I don't agree with-
how many teams left to name- or reafirm captains for the year 2013?
the first part of this sentence makes sense But what does he mean by "Seaford is not the place'?

One point I don't agree with-
wide sweeping assessment on Ben and Jimmy...to me the Club are putting leadership responsibitlity to Ben in particularSaints fans don't need reminding of the litany of recruiting mishaps, in trading and drafting, that have deprived them of players in the 23 to 27-year-old band. Ben McEvoy and James Gwilt can play and are in the right demographic, but neither has done enough, as footballers and particularly as leaders, to earn the mandate of their peers and coaches.

Re: Any Ideas for Captain 2013?
Referencing about the Sydney ruckman in last years GF. Pyke played easily his best game of career.
Due to our list of not having quality between ages 24-27. There really isn't a stand out replacement. I mentioned Dal Santo due to being a midfielder.. as he might have 4 or 5 years at least left in him (health has been pretty good - no injures). If Riewoldt is still producing quality then there's no reason to take it off him. Hayes acts like the leader on the ground anyway.

Neither have done enough as footballers to me means not good at ruck being a ruckmen.
Plugger, for someone that likes to correct everyone, maybe you need to proof read your own sh*t first.

Still cant find that in the article. Sounds like you can read anything into an article. He actually says both can play if you read it properly and also says they havent done enough as footballers but more particularly leaders to be Captain this year. I agree totally. Wonder if Cox and Sandilands had done enough at the same age to be considered as Captains? I doubt it very much. Didnt stop either becoming great ruckmen.
And do you think Jimmy is a good HBF?

What does haven't done enough as footballers mean then plugs. It then also states as being leaders.
Do you think jimmy is ok?
I have never question him and he doesn't get beaten each week.

To me means both can play football.particularly as leaders
Both havent done enough as yet as footballers.
Both havent proven enough yet to be considered as captains

But in the article he rates hinm the same as Ben. It seems you want to take the article in 2 different ways. You want it to say Ben cant ruck but Jimmy can play.

I cant see a logical replacement for Roo or Lenny (Dal has problems with heavy tags) to get back to the topic, seeing I helped to derail it earlier.mohannair wrote:Back to the topic guys,

Re: Any Ideas for Captain 2013?
NICK Riewoldt has been appointed St Kilda captain for an eighth season.
The Saints confirmed Riewoldt would continue in the role for a seventh consecutive year, making him the longest-serving current AFL captain.
He will once again be joined in the Saints’ leadership group by Leigh Montagna, Nick Dal Santo, Ben McEvoy and James Gwilt as well as new additions Sean Dempster, Jarryn Geary and David Armitage.
The Saints have also implemented a leadership development program that will see Lenny Hayes, Stephen Milne, Justin Koschitzke, Sam Fisher and Jason Blake supporting the leadership group.
The program will also mentor players who are part of the Emerging Leaders Group.
Fisher and Adam Schneider have elected not to remain part of the leadership group.
