St Ick wrote:Actually U2 featuring Greenday I think. Remember hearing it at Etihad at a U2 gig a fee years ago, great song. Starts with a kind of haunting rendition of house of the rising sun which would send goosebumps up ya before a game. I believe the song is anti American government for the debacle that occurred down South after the New Orleans hurricane. Very little to be inspired about apart from a reference to Saints in the chorus - good enough for me! hahaStGoddard18 wrote:There is a good green day song that says something like "the saints are coming"
It was a Skids song that was rehashed as a protest against the US governments lack of action post katrina. Awesome song and would definitely get the crowd going.

Anything AC/DC would be enought to stop me going to games.
Call me old or call me anything but I go to relax at the end of the week and don't want to hear that blaring out of a cheap sound system.
Reckon it would suit for Collingwood games though

Theme song to the film "The Saint" by Orbital
Vaguely remember us using it back in the bad old days under Watson when we first moved to the Docklands in 2000.

"I'm a loser, baby," - BECK (Because we historically are such losers.)
"The never ending story," - THEME (Because our misery never f****** ends.)
"Highway to Hell," - ACDC ('09: second, '10: second, '11: seventh, '12: ninth... looks like a downward trajectory (highway) to the bottom (hell) to me)

Re: Entry Song for Saints? AFL request
The absolute undisputed best sports anthem ever written in the history of sports anthems is "Fanfare for the Common Man," by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Check out how they rock an empty, freezing wembley stadium like a trio of power-rock-fusion demigods: The sickest part is at 3.29 when they kick into the bridge.
And for football specifically, I always thought Greg Champion's "The Thing About Football" stood head and shoulders above all the other channel 7 football themes ("I'd like to see that," which was actually "You're unbelievable;" "When the House is a' Rockin', Don't Bother Knockin;" "Holy Grail," and more.) Just look at this absolutely iconic piece of football history from the Golden Age of football and tell me it doesn't awaken memories and feelings thought lost, and that it doesn't truly encompass all the very best of the spirit of Australian Rules Football, I dare you:
If channel 7 want a song to hype up their audience before a game, this is the sort of model they should be looking at, not the cheesed-up american throw-away tripe they are dishing up. How much are they getting paid to come up with these ideas again?

Let the crowd create the atmosphere
The best gf atmosphere was when the reserves finished
And the noise of the crowd kept building till the teams ran out
Now we get amplified rubbish

For Carlton it'd have to be "What Deaner Was Talkin' About", in honour of Lawrence Angwin:dragit wrote:Maybe a different track for each roundQuixote wrote:Maybe 'Your Party' by the same band. Just to add a surreal element to an already silly idea.dragit wrote:Pass the bong - Ween

Re: Entry Song for Saints? AFL request
For starters it was written by Aaron Copland in 1942 and the clip you linked to is at the uncompleted Montreal Olympic Stadium in 1976. Great anthem, but get it right, don't make it up!hungry for a premiership wrote:The absolute undisputed best sports anthem ever written in the history of sports anthems is "Fanfare for the Common Man," by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Alhough I'm opposed to this entry song idea, this theme before a game would help sharpen them up and make them ready for a bit of the old ultraviolence
