What's your pregame tradition?

Post: # 1292451Post SainterK »

Personally, say the Saints are playing Saturday night at Etihad. I love tuning into sports programs during the afternoon of a game day. Maybe I’ll hear predictions of the upcoming game, or if I’m lucky some expert opinion on how they think ‘my boys’ are travelling, or perhaps even a snippet of some late mail about rumoured late changes?

All the while it’s likely I’m making up some schnitzel rolls, putting a couple of coffee shots and hot milk into the thermos, packing an array of snacks (including chocolate for those difficult moments in matches)

Making sure my little mans No 7 guernsey is washed and ready, that he has his face paint packed ready, and that I don't forget his beanie.

Then we always park at the multilevel at Harbourtown ($6 flat rate) and walk through the docklands.

We are usually way too early, but enjoy being there as the anticipation builds for a game.

Mine....would love to hear yours.

(just typing that, feels like footy isn't far away again, can't wait)

Love to smoke a nice big fat j before a game.

In fact, love to smoke a nice big fat j anytime.

Yell at the kids to get them to the car. Kiss the wife. Drive. Park a million miles away. Pop into nandos but not the crappy one next to the ground then seven eleven for drinks and lollies. Stuff the food under my coat, bypass the record sellers with the same scorn I feel for how to vote family first pamphleteers when voting and buskers and enter the ground.

SainterK - very nice routine.

On game day(well Saturday and Sunday) wake up and my footy gear is on.
Come time to go it's down to the station to catch the train. Once at SX I buy the record and sit down in the stadium and flick through it. At the same time I'll have the radio in to whoever I like(Usually Triple M)

On a somewhat related point..... My routine to go to sleep when I lay down to bed every single night of the yearis to think about all the glorious ways in which we can/will win the next GF...

Arrive an hour before the game and talk rubbish with my mates. We usually get the mail about the team well before the media and talk more rubbish.

If it's a Friday night match: catch the 1:50pm direct flight from Cairns to Melbourne, buy a copy of the HS before boarding at the airport newsagency, read all of the footy stuff while drinking numerous Crown Lagers during the flight, after landing walk straight from the aircarft with carry-on to catch the big red bus to Souther Cross, after arriving at Southern Cross walk to accomodation to dump carry-on then to the Royal Melbourne to meet other football loving people to cram in more beer before all arriving at ground just as siren sounds to start game.

As a player, of any sport, I always found that sex before a game was a good preparation.

Mine usually involves getting away from work, smashing the kids into clothing that doesn't quite suit the conditions, trying to talk the wife into coming, getting the car to the station and arriving 10 minutes into the first quarter.

Then when I go with mates it's all free style and messy. Not financially very sensible at Etihad.

By the way how the hell do you get to listen to the radio at the stadium- they block the broadcast on the iphone.

They do still have radio's even though a lot of people probably dont realise.

Anyway mine is simple. Get to game about 2 hours before kick off. Go to a local pub near Etihad or to the axcess one bar. Drink until 20 seconds till bounce then watch the game. if we cant win by half time then back in axcess one for the second half. The last few years have been good though as we nearly always can win by half time so it makes it a cheaper night.

Usually, there is a group of us who gather at the Whitten Bar or the Legends Bar in Livewire about an hour before the bounce. We normally argue over whos shout it is, talk a heap of crap and enjoy a couple of ales. Anyone & everyone is welcome to join us :D !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

2 of my more useful purchases in recent years
the Game day radio- Umpires ears.- which enables me to listen to the umpires and players rather than dribbling commentators- and before that - and still used at times through a game - Digital radio-

one App to try though is 'Tunein radio' also VERY VERY useful for listening to Aussie digital for VFl games- but allows you to listen to any radio station (around the world) anywhere in Australia. - have used it to listen to VFL game whilst at Etihad.
not sure if general stations are blocked on 'Tune In" at Etihad as I have never needed to use it.

Tune in and the SEN ap both get blocked inside the kremlin.

Well it's after 12pm.. I generally wait until 12.01 in the afternoon. Feel a bit weird saying good morning to anyone with a beverage in my hand. :D
