Saints Sign Roberton
As Dylan Roberton was delisted by Fremantle am I right in saying that we can sign him under Free Agency? The Delisted Free Agency Period ends on the 4th of December, this means he doesn't need to go through the rookie draft if we want to sign him.

Re: Roberton under Free Agency?
I think we will have a shopping list and would think that Roberton and Cockie are fall backs if J. Tippet is gone or a couple of other options don't eventuate.

Re: Roberton under Free Agency?
Roberton isnt a free agent as he had a contract put to him by Fremantle and he turned it down. He delisted himself.SaintSimmo wrote:As Dylan Roberton was delisted by Fremantle am I right in saying that we can sign him under Free Agency? I like this kid, got a good feeling about him.
Freo didn't want him gone, he just came home for reasons.

Who's to say any of the players out there would get a game ahead of Blake/Fisher/Gwilt/Simpkin? I'd rather an undersized FB who can play than a big bodied spud.dragit wrote:Who needs a full back anyway.

With the abundance of height, makes you wonder if they will reinvent someone now...vacuous space wrote:Who's to say any of the players out there would get a game ahead of Blake/Fisher/Gwilt/Simpkin? Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Max Hudghton was only 191cm tall.
He did pretty well on the big bodied full forwards.

Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Welcome mat to Roberton, hope he makes the best of his 2nd chance.
That said, think they really needed a bigger bodied tall back like Hartigan, Tippett or Wells

Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Very strange signing IMO. He seems like he could be a reasonable player but we already have far too many 188-191cm "third tall" defenders.
I just don't see how Jones, Roberton, TDL and long-shots like Webster, Staley and Shenton are deemed more worthy of a spot on our list than every unsigned tall defender in the country. Even if a Hartigan/Tippet/Wells/Rodda type doesn't set the world on fire and keep Buddy goalless, they would help our structure immensely and allow Fisher and Gwilt to return to their natural attacking game.

Re: Roberton under Free Agency?
With that logic we wouldn't need to draft anyone… Who's to say BLT will get a game ahead of Milne, Saad, Schneider, Milera, Minchington…? Who's to say Hickey will get a game ahead of Blake?vacuous space wrote:Who's to say any of the players out there would get a game ahead of Blake/Fisher/Gwilt/Simpkin? Roberton might be a decent player, but we are desperate for a Full Back, which he isn't.

Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Does that mean he is our fullback? Or does that mean he will take Gilbert's position, or Fisher's, and they will play full back?

You can & I will.sainterinsydney wrote:We got him for nothing--can't complain, I guess.
We had one space left on the list, we are desperate for a FB, we got another rangey back flanker… on top of our 6th small forward… I don't understand…
Jones, Blake, Kosi, Wilkes, Ray are basically all surplus now… The best available FB would be much more useful even if you risk getting a spud.

Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Of course its not. Roberton is a better player than all the key backs that are left un drafted. Weve got a player who will be in our best 22 for free. Im more than happy to add quality to our list and develope a back 6 that works as a group.dragit wrote:You can & I will.sainterinsydney wrote:We got him for nothing--can't complain, I guess.

I want Roberton - but this is a very misleading thread heading.
Can you change it to "Can Saints sign Roberton?"

Re: Saints Sign Roberton
Just good to get a player from that club; a player that they wanted to keep; who cost us nothing and they got nothing for.
