Final List Structure for 2013
OK, now we know what the list looks like for next year. No more delistings, no more pickups. Two ways to look at it, by age and by size.
Veterans 30+ (6):
Hayes, Milne, Blake, Fisher, Koschitzke, Riewoldt
Mature Players 26 to 29 (9):
Montagna, Dempster, Jones, Dal Santo, Schneider, Wilkes, Ray, Gwilt, Gilbert
Mid-Age Players 22 to 25 (13):
Milera, Armitage, Geary, Dennis-Lane, McEvoy, Saad, Shenton (r), Steven, Simpkin, Dunell, Stanley, Lee, Hickey
Young Players 18 to 21 (17):
Winmar, Ledger, Markworth, Curren (r), Ferguson (r), Siposs, Wright, Newnes, Ross, Lever, Webster, Staley (r), Minchington (r), Murdoch, Saunders, White, Pierce
Reasonable distribution? Obviously replacements for those veterans are needed ASAP - Kosi and Milne the only two we can be really confident have reasonable understudies. The Mid-Age Player group looks a lot potentially stronger than it would have even a year ago, so that's a tick for list management. Any improvement next year comes from them and hopefully from a bolter or two from the Young Players group.
Very Talls (5):
Pierce, Hickey, McEvoy, Stanley, Lever
Talls (8):
Koschitzke, Lee, White, Wilkes, Staley (r), Riewoldt, Fisher, Blake
Mediums (9):
Gilbert, Ferguson (r), Dempster, Simpkin, Dunell, Winmar, Markworth, Siposs, Gwilt
Smalls (10):
Shenton (r), Webster, Ray, Ross, Murdoch, Hayes, Dal Santo, Wright, Newnes, Milera
Very Smalls (13):
Jones, Armitage, Geary, Saunders, Dennis-Lane, Steven, Minchington, Montagna, Ledger, Curren, Milne, Schneider, Saad
Well, we gained four talls, two of whom are the tallest two players on our list. We still look a little underweight in the young talls department, but it's a start. Lots and lots in the small/very small categories, including four new additions. Certainly we shouldn't be light on for a bit of pace, but I'd much rather there were a couple more of them at more like 187 than 181 - makes for a bit more dimension to their play.
Thoughts? What are the problems here?

I reckon there will be at least one, maybe a couple of list changes to come by the 29th.

Think Staley and Winmar should be nervous.

If Staley stays they're simply going to have to try him as a KPD.evo wrote: Think Staley and Winmar should be nervous.
Anything else will simply be a waste of time for both club and player.
Re: Final List Structure for 2013
Agreed, its a tough one as he was always going to take years to show anything, but now it seems we have another one who is going to take a few years. I think he is gone. Doesn't make sense to be developing him when our ruck stocks now have a bit of depth and are all quite young.Dr Spaceman wrote:If Staley stays they're simply going to have to try him as a KPD.evo wrote: Think Staley and Winmar should be nervous.

I'd rather give the spot to a kid not picked up or even Roberton or Cockie. And Winmars spot should go to one of Pongracic, Garlett, Colquhoun or there was another but I forget his name. Either way, I don't see Winmar offering a lot - Maybe K could make him her prediction for this year and prove us all wrong!!

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
Yep. But he's not really a marking player and certainly couldn't play as a tall defender or tall forward - we've seen that tried. The way he plays, he's a medium.SMS wrote:Gilbert a medium?? Dude is 194cm!! Taller than reiwoldt blake...
Re: Final List Structure for 2013
For list structure, we are better off having Walshe or Rodda as a rookie than Staley. And Shenton is the other one on shaky ground surely especially with TDL and Murdoch being recruited.
For mine I'd be happy to go Winmar - Colquhoun/Garlett/Haynes/Pongracic, then Staley - Walshe/Rodda. Shenton goes and Winmar is rookied for his final contract year. Whilst Shenton is no doubt contracted a rookie contract can be absorbed greater than a main list player.
Not sure whether we will delist further. I think those three changes should be made though

I'm not sure I agree with your changes, but I do agree that there would surely be room in the salary cap to pay out a year of a rookie contract if that's what the club wanted to do.St Ick wrote:For mine I'd be happy to go Winmar - Colquhoun/Garlett/Haynes/Pongracic, then Staley - Walshe/Rodda. Re: Final List Structure for 2013
whats the deal with michington, listed as a forward in the 179cm bracket on our website and it seems as though we have plenty of those types around.

The coach gave him an almighty endorsement last year on radio - so I'm expecting him to be around for a while.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
Shenton, Winmar and Jones would be less value to us than a mature Key defender next year IMO.
Surely we now have massive salary cap space to delist a player or two and still pay them out under the cap… Gram & Goddard going would free up $1,000,000 for starters.

I reckon Winmar could get a gig in the backline this year, he's getting some decent size to him now as well.
Re: Final List Structure for 2013
Very quick, very skilful, loads of football smarts, great goalkicking ability & already a decent build. Negatives, he's a bit of a shortarse!S.A Saint wrote:Have you seen him play down at sandy at all?savatage wrote:The coach gave him an almighty endorsement last year on radio - so I'm expecting him to be around for a while.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
I reckon if you are mature age they would be expecting you to be in the mix to make the best 22 picked. Not sure if Shenton showed enough to keep his spot. Only 1 year on the list I know may seem harsh, but unless they think he is good enough to be a regular in 2013 i cant see them persisting with him. Personally I would let him go and make way for Roberton.dragit wrote:Shenton, Winmar and Jones would be less value to us than a mature Key defender next year IMO.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
So list lodgement 3 is in 2 days, you would think we would not cut anymore rookies now that they have all flown to Boulder?
So we will use one PSD pick and no rookies?

Saw Shenton with the group so it's definitely nt him. Think we will pick up 1 which I think is either roberton or cockie.

Not sure, I know Curren has gone, which leaves Minchington and Staley. Surely they wouldn't delist someone while they were over there?SainterK wrote:They all have?dragit wrote:So list lodgement 3 is in 2 days, you would think we would not cut anymore rookies now that they have all flown to Boulder?

Dont see why either of those 2 deserve a spot on the main list ahead of Curren. I would have thought it would be position specific meaning it will be a mature age FB. Sounds like Joel Tippett to me and out of those 3 that is certainly who i would pick. Cockie is a good VFL player at best IMO.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
with BJ and Gram gone and Kosi, Milney, Lenny going and Roo on a reduced wage - Surely we can chase a big fish for 2014?dragit wrote:Shenton, Winmar and Jones would be less value to us than a mature Key defender next year IMO.

I dont see the point unless we are still see the window as open. The player is going to be at least 26 if not older so we would want to think we can win a flag in about 4 - 5 years. i would wait until at least 2015 if not 16.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
They're more likely to throw some cash towards some of the young GC & GWS talent that may be tempted to shift to Melbourne.
Agree with Plugger, not much use paying thru the nose for a 26/27 year old at this stage of the clubs development.

Re: Final List Structure for 2013
Our willingness to deal with GWS and SOS should be a good sign going fwd. I think their kids are a lot better than the Suns. Especially for our needs, a look at their list would show about 9 or 10 key position players....Animal Enclosure wrote:They're more likely to throw some cash towards some of the young GC & GWS talent that may be tempted to shift to Melbourne.
