Re: Dylan Roberton
Just read the first page or two re Dylan Roberton on the Freo BF board and they seem to think with a bit more bulk and development he would be a very good defender ... main criticism of him seems to be that he is percieved as slow ..
Its also been stated on that board that Roberton has already bought a house in Langwarrin .....

Re: Dylan Roberton
i love it that you name is skeptic and you come up with a post like that from what i have read and from what i heard during trade period he was closely looked at by a few clubs but i deal never went through and that freo tried to change his mind but he was very keen to come home. haven't seen much of him but from what i have seen a few more kgs and he could be a very hand backman.skeptic wrote:why?
who is he, where does he play, why should we get him, why was he cut?

Re: Dylan Roberton
He's 191cm and I don't think we can fit any more mid-size backmen. We already have:jimmy_slats wrote:haven't seen much of him but from what i have seen a few more kgs and he could be a very hand backman.
Sam Gilbert (194cm)
Tom Simpkin (191cm)
Sam Fisher (191cm)
Sean Dempster (191cm)
Sam Dunell (190cm)
Nick Winmar (189cm)
Arryn Siposs (189cm)
Jason Blake (189cm)
Jimmy Gwilt (188cm)
None of these guys can play on the true talls, and unless Roberton has really long arms then he can't either. We don't need him as a backman.
That said, if he could play as a running midfielder then I wouldn't be completely opposed. He'd wanna be a good kick and good decision-maker, and since I know nothing about him I don't know if that's true.
Re: Dylan Roberton
Of course he will get a go, he has a West Australian connection, of some sort.
Lance or James??

Underrated player- he's hated for being a c**k but he's always been a pretty handy player. He would be a better fit as an aggressive tall CHB and free up a defender like Fisher.
I'm not saying he's a gun but he's better than given credit for and would be pretty confusing along side Rooey.

Re: Dylan Roberton
I'm only interested in Roberton if he's a potential full back.
No Thanks.

Re: Dylan Roberton
Roberton is very much worth a close look. 21 years old with 37 games.... already going ok, just needs a small step up...

Is this the kid who wears the headband?
Always thought with a bit of bulk...but not everyone can change their frame that easily.
McFly though Gringo? I must be missing something...no talent other than getting away with cheap shots.

Re: Dylan Roberton
Fyfe more famously wears a headband for Freo, but a look at google images confirms that Roberton has too.SainterK wrote:Is this the kid who wears the headband?
I'd say he's very Raph Clarke-ish. He's got a big frame, but isn't a key defender. Not a big winner of the ball, but a good ball user. Raph probably had more of an impact at the defensive end than Roberton has to this point.
I wouldn't have a problem with adding him, but I wouldn't be overcome with joy either.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Sick of guys saying they are spuds this guy is a local kid coming home for family reasons they might pick him they may not but this kid is hungry to succeed really got nothing to lose as a rookie ps .McPhee is contracted to Freo.

Re: Dylan Roberton
Sounds like he does have a bit of ability but doesn't suit our needs at the moment as a medium defender. Perhaps he's training with us so the coaches can have a look at his skills/smarts and see if he could make a move to the midfield.
I'd never noticed him at all until this off season, but then I also hadn't noticed a bunch of talented Adelaide players until I actually sat down and watched them in the finals. It's easy for Victorians to assume interstate players are spuds because they have no media profile over here, even though they'd probably be a household name if they played for Collingwood. 37 games as an 18, 19 and 20 year old is pretty impressive in a fairly competitive side.

Re: Dylan Roberton
How many 21 yr olds in St. Kilda squad have played 37 games??
Answer: 0.. yes that is the big fat zero, nada, none
Roberton started 2012 as a 20 year old.....
It is way too early to say he is a "spud". If he had played those games for the saints, people on the forum would be expecting that he is about to have his "breakout year"
Great that we are giving him a pre-season, I hope he makes that next step and becomes a good player
