Re: Watters on 3aw soon
i don't think there's any love lost between Watters and Goddard.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I think you may be right, from the Courier Mail:magnifisaint wrote:i don't think there's any love lost between Watters and Goddard.
ST Kilda coach Scott Watters has fired back at Brendon Goddard, insisting he is not bothered the star utility quit the club.
Brendon Goddard claims the talent at the Bombers was a major factor in his decision to walk out on the Saints.
Goddard this week broke his silence on his free agency switch to Essendon, saying the talent at the Bombers had been a major factor in his decision to walk out on the Saints.
But Watters said he couldn't care less.
"There's absolutely no disappointment from my side of the fence," he said yesterday.
"I've just finished a session with 14 young players that want to play at this football club and my energies are focused on them."
Watters, who yesterday unveiled young Saints recruits Tom Hickey, Tom Lee and Trent Dennis-Lane, added: "I've got no interest in other people's perceptions either. We deal with what we deal with here internally and we're excited about what's ahead.
"Brendon's an Essendon player. We're pretty keen to deal with the St Kilda players that are here."
Watters said last month Goddard's decision to leave was purely financial.
"The reason is about money. It's that simple," he said.

Still don't buy it to be honest...
There is tention there,
I think BJ wanted to play a role and Scott had other ideas.

I'm not with you on this one K. You have been strong on his lack of midfield time for a while now. I think it's an easy excuse for him to use, and an easier thing for him to say than "I couldn't knock back the coin".SainterK wrote:Still don't buy it to be honest...

I think it's a cop out. Just my opinion though.

Massive amount of tension - If Goddard really has made claims about the talent at Essendon being an influence - he has just whacked the entire playing group at st Kilda - that will go down pretty badly with everyone I would think - looks like the saints v bombers will be a grudge match after all - hope we smash themSainterK wrote:Still don't buy it to be honest...

You're looking to much into it K, IMO.SainterK wrote:Still don't buy it to be honest...

I think it is both a factor of where BJ thinks the respective lists are at and the money.

Can't Giddard say he liked Essendons talent without necessarily disparaging St Kildare?
We all know it's coin related - he's trying to take some pressure off himself - good luck to him.... except against us

Re: Watters on 3aw soon
Either way it doesn't matter. Can't have players dictating where they play to the coach. Or earn more money than the coach thinks they're worth.SainterK wrote:I think BJ wanted to play a role and Scott had other ideas.
The coach is always right until the board tell him he's unemployed.
Re: Watters on 3aw soon
I doubt it. They've all had the same media training, they know that the club tells him how to spin it and it's his responsibility to sell the line. They're professionals and they do what they have to do. The only ones pissed off when St Kilda plays Essendon will be a few illogical Saints fans.saint6709 wrote:Massive amount of tension - If Goddard really has made claims about the talent at Essendon being an influence - he has just whacked the entire playing group at st Kilda - that will go down pretty badly with everyone I would think...

Yes well I actually agree with this sentiment...Saints43 wrote:Either way it doesn't matter. Can't have players dictating where they play to the coach.SainterK wrote:I think BJ wanted to play a role and Scott had other ideas.
Ball was the same, was played as a tagger in 07, then tried as a defensive forward 08...but he wanted to be an inside mid and when he saw his chances at that drying up in 09 then he found a club where he could be.
It's why I admire guys like Blake, Kosi and lately now Joey, who are willing to play whatever role...regardless of if they shine or not.
However my argument still stands, I think it's largely why BJ left...
Plenty of guys leave to find chances to play where they want to play was more my point.

I love Scotty's straight bat approach. You wanna play with us or you can f*** off!

Re: Watters on 3aw soon
re: the discussion and comparison with Ball vs Goddard -
Ball improved as a player, as he was playing under a better coach - in Malthouse - who recognised and (unlike RL) valued Ball's strengths - which is his ability to win clearances and his tackling. Ball felt appreciated under Malthouse, who played him on his strengths.
Goddard is a beautiful kick, as we all know - but he only plays well as a loose half-back, and his weakness is he doesn't win enough contested possessions.
If Hird recruited Goddard as a potential midfielder - he will be very disappointed.

Why?
He sees himself as a mid, and was pretty clear he was frustrated this year not to get that opportunity.
Re: Watters on 3aw soon
Said 10 weeks ago the Saints were happy to lose BJ. It seems SW was just reinforcing that.

Re: Watters on 3aw soon
Curren has the makings of a potential midfielder with the right attributes, not Goddard.
Goddard is good as a loose defender and under midfield pressure his main weapon - his accurate long kicking - would suffer.
Hird should have targeted someone else, if he was after a midfielder.

Re: Watters on 3aw soon
It is common knowledge that Goddard turned into a sook as soon as we lost GF2. He was great while it was all going his way. We will be a better team without him in the long run.

He was certainly trying to take pressure off himself. In fact I thought is was quite desperate how he was trying to take pressure off himself. Andy Maher put this toTeflon wrote:Can't Giddard say he liked Essendons talent without necessarily disparaging St Kildare?

Tim Watson on SEN. Said something like wouldnt Essendon supporters expect him to produce for $800000 per year, not just be there to help the young talent. Tim couldnt
answer that one
