Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
From an impeccable source here they are:
(1) Better facilities on offer at Essendon Fields new facility about to open next year.
(2) Chance to play in the midfield
(3) Chance to play in a premiership
Also, he was offered MORE money at other clubs than Essendon, although I don't know which clubs they were.

i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
Better facilities about 5 hours from his home. He was playing in the midfield for us in longer periods but I agree they have more chance of winning a flag than us. Reckon the money was a pretty good reason why he left and was probably the main reason.

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
Not sure why everyone is so ready to agree that Essendon has more chance of a premiership in the next few years than us - we under performed under a new coach last year - if lenny and milney etc can some how keep their form for another year - our young guys keep improving and we can fill the hole in the big backman department - I can't see why we can't give it a crack this year - A couple of IFS but all in the realms of possibility

Good riddance....he was an unaccountable freewheeler....an aspect that Watters didn't like so he tried to change Greedards role.....and Greedards reaction...
he went to the Bummers....

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
I don't think Essendon are a serious threat in the next 3 years.
Obviously things may change but in that regard I think he made a poor choice.
I reckon we'll challenge seriously again b4 they do

Yet the only one that mattered, that is money, you didn't identify as part of the 'facts'

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
I think we let him go to clear space in our cap and didn't want to pay overs to a guy that only had a few games in 2 years that justified his wage. We are a little more exposed losing Gram as well but I think both St kilda and Goddard will be better off for it. Not sure about Essendon in the next few years but it's funny that the big clubs have to pay excessively to bring in St Kilda players to set professional standards for their underperformers.
Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
I totally buy option 2 as a major factor, didn't get to play in the St Kilda midfield until Rd 19 this year....
Which was foolish IMO.
I think he will get runs through the Bombers midfield and will do very well.
However I agree, he is gone...time to move on.

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
If he gets a run with player on him he is screwed. He will struggle at Essendon where there are less quality mids and might only be a handy decoy for Jobe. He is a hard player to use well because he has some tricks and some limitations. I hope he gets a bit of his mojo back just not against us.SainterK wrote:I totally buy option 2 as a major factor, didn't get to play in the St Kilda midfield until Rd 19 this year....

I thinnk there were about 750,000 reasons BJ left, but I don't think any of them were the new Bomber facilities......

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
I can understand and forgive someone for leaving for huge financial gain…
However I would find it pretty ordinary for a 200 game player to leave his mates and club for any of those 3 reasons.

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
I agree with this. Why do people think Essendon is a better chance than us? Finished below us and hardly have a cavalcade of up and coming stars. If anything, I reckon our youngsters show just as much, if not more, than theirs. Oh I forgot, they have a former rodeo clown as their strength and conditioning coach.saint6709 wrote:Not sure why everyone is so ready to agree that Essendon has more chance of a premiership in the next few years than us - we under performed under a new coach last year - if lenny and milney etc can some how keep their form for another year - our young guys keep improving and we can fill the hole in the big backman department - I can't see why we can't give it a crack this year - A couple of IFS but all in the realms of possibility
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
Three reasons he left for Essendon
1. They were the highest offer in Victoria ( didn't want to go interstate )
2. They are realistically on the way up the ladder where we are in a rebuild stage
3. After years at the same place a change can present a new challenge and maybe reignight a level of excitement ( after coming so close without getting the ultimate then hitting a form slump a change might be the answer to turning it around)

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
Move on about Goddard he went for $ only $ ,my source is his sister who goes out with my son. End of story.
As for the bulls*** about Goddard playing midfield he has been tried as mid with Ross Lyon Failed ,again with Scott Watters failed.
Anybody who watched the Saints closely would seen brendon fail against Melbourne. Failed against Fremantle. Failed against Nth Melbourne. His spot is off half back don't get me wrong though he was a great player but not worth the $ move on.

now, he's hardly going to come straight out and state that he left for the money.......but that's exactly what he did......
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
BJ's had many opportunities in the middle over the years. How many clearences can you remember BJ ever getting from a centre bounce? He's got no idea how hard you need to go in there imo. One (very good at it) position player. Although obviously Essadun think differently because you don't play big money for HBFs.SainterK wrote:I totally buy option 2 as a major factor, didn't get to play in the St Kilda midfield until Rd 19 this year....

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
My first post on Goddard's defection.
Reckon it was the best for all parties, as for why he left I could not care less.
But he's not a good midfielder but an outstanding half bank flank quarter back.
To be a good midfielder you need to be a good clearance player, good contested ball winner and defensively a good tackler.
Goddard is none of these things, but will still be a very good player for Essendon.

Re: Why BJ left St.Kilda: Facts
The reason he didn't play in the midfield is because he's not a midfielder arsehole....when Lenny was out in 2011 he got plenty of opportunity and failed miserably, doesn't win the contested footy and he's to great below his knees.
As far as Essendon being a better chance of winning the flag than us, what a load of garbage, they rely on a 38yo to hold their back line together, their midfield depth is shallow, and they have a soft underbelly. They are no where near it.
