So were we runnning 2 players short this year due to salary cap squeeze? Surely we had 2 on the vets list this year?

Yes we did! But because we were so close to the cap, they were inside the list!dragit wrote:So were we runnning 2 players short this year due to salary cap squeeze? Surely we had 2 on the vets list this year?

It would have made no difference if they were outside the list.
Next season we will have a lot more cap relief! Which will allow us to have 2 vets outside the list!

Yup, exactly. This year we had 2 vets inside the list which gave us only 36 other players for 38 total. Next year it looks like we'll have 2 vets outside the list, 38 players inside it which is 40 all up. And currently we have 35, as dragit's maths showed earlier in the thread we're currently -3 net change - so we need five players to fill the list.sax wrote:Next season we will have a lot more cap relief! Of course, we could still have one veteran inside the list if we thought we wanted an extra rookie list spot. That's what I reckon we'll do if we can't find a recycled player - taking a kid at pick 77 is a waste of time.

well, we did get Siposs with 75 not too long ago.... but generally yes... the recruiters will presumably know if there is someone they really rate still around and decide appropriatelytaking a kid at pick 77 is a waste of time.
Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
Fair point. I looked at 77+ from the last ten years in another thread and couldn't find a kid except Jesse White who'd come to anything, but Siposs is just outside that.SuperDuper wrote:well, we did get Siposs with 75 not too long ago.... but generally yes... the recruiters will presumably know if there is someone they really rate still around and decide appropriatelytaking a kid at pick 77 is a waste of time.
I suppose we also have to keep in mind that it will in practice probably be lower than 77 as some clubs will be already out - Melbourne, for instance, have 7 picks before that, and GWS have 8. If any clubs don't free up enough space or pass on their last couple of picks then we'll have a pick which is effectively lower by a few.

Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
St Kilda now has 5 picks in the Natinal Draft activated 25, 26, 41, 44, 77 but Sam Dunnell's permanent promotion is set to be called at 95.
This will give St Kilda a full senior list of 40 (38 primary list plus 2 veterans not on the primary list).
At present St Kilda has not activated any rookie picks but 2 off rule 21.1.3 rookie postions remain vacant.
There has been no talk of candidates for these vacancies.
If the club wants to participate in the rookie draft then either senior or rookie delisting are necessary.

Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
We have List Lodgements 2 and 3 to go yet. The club can still make room if it wants too. A bloke of Big Footy had a draft pick list made out as it stands now, and our Round Four pick 77 (which he forgot) would be pick 65. Our Round Five draft pick as it stands now would be 71.
And if Adelaide lose its draft picks 65 will become 63 and 60 if Melbourne lose their draft picks.

Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
I have read where the Saints intent to draft one rookie. To do that they will have to either delist another rookie, or my favoured option, delist a player from the senior list, promote Curren, thus creating a vacancy on the rookie list.
Time will tell.

Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
As Bergholt points out above, we have 35 on the Senior list at this point of time.
Re: How many more do we need to de-list?
Not true. You need to also look at all of the rookie draft selections in the last 10 years as they would be available after 77 also. So there are still plenty of gems around at that pick.bergholt wrote:Fair point.
