Yes they botched it although it would not be entirely Melbourne's fault that say Lucas Cook or Cale Morton did not come on to become the players that dignified such high draft selections.
Agree - but you would not "not look at a player because he wasn't able to make it at melbourne"
I would have a look at Pettard.

Where he could play? god knows.

That being said plenty of teams average players could play in other teams and contribute the same amount of averageness.

He weights 29 KG though. And he is a forward.

Turns out he's already on the chicken breasts and now weighs 91 kg - sounds like he might be about 94 by season start next year - gotta be worth looking - was drafted at 12 that's potential star quality

We probably have 30 people looking at kids around the land this year. lets see if any of them can pick a star because you only improve with stars and not hacks or even GOPS

There were a lot of GOP's in Sydney's GF side. Some from other clubs.

Yep and they are fine when you are at the top of the tree like we were 3 years ago. They arent fine when you are on your way down and the stars you do have are all 28 and older. If we had 22 Blake type players we would be a very honest hard working side who would finish between 14 and 18.

To win a flag you must have stars. The stars we have will probably not be around when we challenge again. We need to find them through the draft or through trading. i am guessing Cook will not be

Just out of interest what stars do Sydney have under 28?

Kennedy and Jack for starters and they are in the midfield. The most important position on the ground. Mumford when he is up and running goes ok as well. Hannebury is getting there and jetta is improving and may get there. Again all mids. Mc Veigh is 27 and is a very good player. Another mid. And Tommy Walsh.
Kennedy came across as a 21 yr old GOP
Mumford again a GOP when he came across
Jack yep and mcveigh scrapes in although he is an old 27 for mine
Any of seb, Steven, Stanley and Siposs could develop into hannebery, jetta and Reid types.
Brown could have been our Richards.
I don't think our list is as done as many think, it depends on how much our stars have in their tank.
We do need a younger one to come through and threaten our b&f though

I didnt say none of our players wont be stars. I said you need stars to win a flag and I dont beleive our current stars will be around when we challenge again so we need to hopefully get stars because GOPS wont get it done. Not sure we can compare Cook to Kennedy or Mumford. Both were wanted by their clubs but there wasnt opportunities. Cook has been kicked out after 2 years.

I have no problem with delisted players at any club coming to us but at 90 kegs he's too light for the one hole we need filled.

I appreciate your argument, but their stars are no younger than ours and the new stars coming through have come as GOP from other clubs predominantly.
Not saying Cook will, but, there is every chance that at least one if not two of the GOP's picked up will end up as B's and maybe even an A.
Sydney have got a few over the years.

Lack of pace is a killer. Not much good if you are a KPD and can't make up any ground on the leading forward.

Imagine being a Melbourne supporter. In last few years with Morton, then Gysberts at pick 11, Cook at 12, scully at 1 and none are at the club. from the outside it looks cultural so its worth taking a look at first rounders who might benefit from a better environment. Cook was drafted in 2010, has exceptional footskills and elite endurance and can play across half back. At 196 and 91 kg's as a 20 year old, he has a few tools.
Also wonder if its they will look at Haratuku again. He is a big man and looks to be be developing albeit at a lower level

Two posts ago I said kennedy and Jack. They are stars and they are younger than ours. They are also at the top of the ladder. We are on the way down. Our stars are are close to finishing. GOPS dont move you up the ladder. Cook is coming from a lot further back than Kennedy and Mumford and is less likely to be a star. Matter of fact he is very unlikely. He is no where near a GOP even.

Is that like looking at us with Ball being 2, X @ 5, Raph @ 8 & Goose 20?

Before we sneer at Melbourne rejects , remember the fate of our first round picks recently and checkout or rd5 match up. We and particularly our midfield were almost beaten. In two years our midfield will be b grade I fear.

This thread seems completely off topic now but to be fair, Melbourne has assed up rebuilding through the draft. I'm not taking any joy out of it but it is true, regardless of Ball X goose leaving etc etc. we rebuilt through the draft in early 2000s and have had a competitive side for about 8 years! They are now rebuilding the rebuild, it's a shame, not taking nic Nat there biggest mistake IMO!

Maybe this year?

Played 14 games for Casey and booted 11 goals. Wow.
No thanks

Atleast we have enjoyed a period of relative success. Poor old Dees have had lean years to go with failed draft picks.
I think Goose has been good for Brisbane and Ball has had success with Collingwood and Raph nearing 100 games. Its possible Cook could be player if given an opportunity and we should hve a look.
