Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Agree Gilham is no FB he's what we have a poor alternative. Start looking at Tippet, Khan Haratuku?, Port melbournes defender who i've already forgotten etc. Mature rookie them and see what we can turn up.
Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Is there anyone that will be potentially delisted and picked up in the draft?
Other than that they will surely have to make do with a WAFL or SANFL type?
I just can't see how you'd be prepared to go another season without one.
A little curious, how much did they offer Brown, and how much was Dawson offered?

What don't you get? We don't have a full back.
Gilham isnt the type we wanted. if we wanted that type we have Simpkin to do the job.
I'd rather have picked up a player who could potentially hold down FB, than another small forward.
I'm baffled by today.
Well the Saints obviously thought gilham couldnt hold down FB. have no idea what TDL has to do with a FB.
Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Irrelevant comparison given that didn't have the cap room last year, whereas thanks to Goddard leaving we did this year.SainterK wrote: A little curious, how much did they offer Brown, and how much was Dawson offered?
What is clear that Dawson stiffed us last year. Walked out into the PSD rather than giving us the chance to trade him to Freo. Also because of that we didn't have time to try to trade for a replacement KPD in 2011.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
I still don't think so, Polo/Clarke/Peake were all offered new contracts at the end of last season.Richter wrote:Irrelevant comparison given that didn't have the cap room last year, whereas thanks to Goddard leaving we did this year.SainterK wrote: A little curious, how much did they offer Brown, and how much was Dawson offered?

I hope no 'personality' grudges clouded anyones judgement.

Edited for accuracy.plugger66 wrote:

The Saints wanted Brown over Gilham. They thought they could get Brown. They didn't. In the meantime, Gilham went to GWS.
I've watched more Hawks games than I have cared to over the years. Gilham is a full back.
Who is ours?
Anyway, I'm leaving it there.
Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Have had this guy Sam Pleming? how would he go as an afl key position back? Was rookie listed by the blues a while ago, 194cm 90kg plays for port Melbourne now as a VFL listed player.
2010 vfl team of the year, best and fairest for Port Melbourne 2010. Played in "the perfect season" in 2011 for Port Melb as a Key position back? Played as a Key position back in a team that made the GF 2012.
I know is scraping the barrel but has anyone seen this guy play? Could be a look?

Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
hartigan is 194 ( I think ) not really big enough I wouldnt think , gilham the hawke guy the same too small, we are going to have to find someone big - still think that sean tighe must be worth looking at - whats the catch with him - too slow ??? I can't tell from highlights reel
either way they need a big guy from somewhere
TDL has played under watters before and is just a steak knife kind of deal -- like for like with cripps no real loss of draught pick or position

Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Hartigan is the best *young* KPD in the VFL/AFL/SANFL. Only 20 or so.... will get bigger with another pre-season and can already play on the big boys.
WE dont need to use him on the mobile types....
I say get him....

Tippett?
Let's just play more defensive and we will probably win a few more games.

I still think they might try Lee in defence at the start of next year and just see what happens.
Similar to Fisher when he came across from SA as a FF / FP .

Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Well I'm assuming Sipposs will be playing as HBF... Boy that kid can kick a footy... surprised he doesn't split the seams on the thing. Really not sure what we're going to do for a big strong key position defender though... Dempster played so well back there this season yet... seems a little wasted back there. Simpkin is only going to get better... that boy reads the game so well... a natural. But yeah... At a bit of a loss as to where we're going to find someone. The picks we've got may deliver us a diamond in the rough but will still be a couple of years away from taking on the gorillas of the game.

Do you think our recruiters know what a key back looks like....
I'm not confident....

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Simpkin is not as big as Gilham
He is about 90KG and has been in the system for nearly ten year and 100 odd games...

As opposed to Simpkin who is about 90kg and been in the system 5 years.

Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Nick Rodda is the man- huge from WA and could be an immediate player due to his size. Had one of the biggest hand spans in testing Stewie Loewe style and was great v SA as a big bodied defender.
