Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Well trade period just ended... and this remains a huge problem for us.
I can only assume now we'll be scouring the draft for a mature full-back.
Thoughts?

Just play Wilkes at the back. He's not that good at it, but surely he's about as good as anyone playing full-back in a state league?Quixote wrote:Well trade period just ended... and this remains a huge problem for us.

Anyway, there's a lot of competition for tall forward spots - Roo, Kosi, Stanley, Lee, McEvoy/Hickey - so I don't think he gets many games if he can only play down there.

Odds are that Brown may continue on with WC after 2013Quixote wrote:Well trade period just ended... and this remains a huge problem for us.

Some posters are saying we will get him next year...................I doubt it
Do we scour the draft for a mature FB or pick best available KPD youngster pick 25/26

I'd say both. Longer term we're gonna need more than one new Key Defender.chook23 wrote:Odds are that Brown may continue on with WC after 2013Quixote wrote:Well trade period just ended... and this remains a huge problem for us.

Tanner smith is only 194cm, isn't much of an improvement from Simpkin as the FB.creepypolar wrote:tanner smith? mclurey?

He would be my choice but obviously the recruitment team will have a number of mature players they would have looked at.sainterinsydney wrote:Joel Tippett?
Perhaps our short term answer is to use one of our tall forwards down back eg Stanley given that we now have Lee & Hickey. I dont think it would hurt his development and definitely think he could fill the void. We seem to be really pidgeon holing players these days - time for some lateral thinking Mr WATTERS.

Yeah.... we need to be looking for something decent from the state leagues....
Just someone to outbody the opposition gorillas....
star CHF and FF will prob still walk over us, but its the resting giants that we need to curtail....

What about Gillies from Geelong, I know he's not a monster full back but he should help ??

Stanley couldnt and wont play FB. Not sure who will but it wont be him. Played CHB a couple of times at Sandy last year and didnt have much of a clue.

Really, really disappointing not to land a FB.
Gilham was there for the taking, yet we focused on Brown who WCE said wouldn't be traded, and we missed out on both.
Very poor.

Gilham wasn't the answer - will be better off taking an educated risk on a state league defender.StNoodles wrote:Really, really disappointing not to land a FB.

We could have got him for very little one would assume, given what GWS secured him with.WinnersOnly wrote:Gilham wasn't the answer - will be better off taking an educated risk on a state league defender.StNoodles wrote:Really, really disappointing not to land a FB.

We should have got him AND a state league defender imo.

Should be able to spend 25/26 on kids and 44 on Hartigan. + promote Ferguson. So no panic.

Gilham's 192cm. He's basically the same size as Simpkin but six years older. Why bother signing a player like that?StNoodles wrote:Gilham was there for the taking, yet we focused on Brown who WCE said wouldn't be traded, and we missed out on both.

Because he held down FB in a Premiership team?bergholt wrote:Gilham's 192cm. He's basically the same size as Simpkin but six years older. And if Schoenmakers was available in the draft I'd have wanted us to trade for him.bergholt wrote:

What don't you get? We don't have a full back.

Re: Big Bodied Backman for 2013
Appears we focused on a contracted required player.
Not the best strategy.
Time for them to fix it by some other means, because it needs fixing.

Gilham isnt the type we wanted. if we wanted that type we have Simpkin to do the job.

And Trent Dennis-Lane is the type we wanted, apparently.plugger66 wrote:StNoodles wrote:And if Schoenmakers was available in the draft I'd have wanted us to draft him.bergholt wrote:

I'd rather have picked up a player who could potentially hold down FB, than another small forward.
I'm baffled by today.
