Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
The problem seems to be West Coast are not interested in Cripps but Cripps wants to go home to WA.
That leaves Fremantle has picks 17, 40, 60.
Pick 17 would be too rich for Cripps, pick 40 too little.
Maybe pick 17 for Cripps and pick 26 would interest Ross Lyon (and an undisclosed or ex gratia payment to improve his personal finances).

WCE are predicted to get either pick 44 or 51 from the Dogs for Koby Stevens too
Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
So apparently a couple of days ago Brown got engaged to his girlfriend who plays netball for West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championship.
Doesn't look good for him moving to Melbourne....

Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
In a way I kind of hope that the Brown deal falls through. Its a huge price to pay, and he is 3rd in line for a reason, that is he isn't as good as the other two.saint6709 wrote:Still might get brown and Stevens for Cripps & 26
Also, its off topic but I just saw the worst piece of footy ever from Jacobs in a nab cup match. He basically fumbled and instead of fixing it he slapped the ground, swore, then jogged slowly toward the player that had the ball... who kicked a goal on the rebound. Looked really bad and I have heard rumours about not wanting to work hard enough.
I say don't worry about him, we need to pay nearly double his value this year vs next year. No thanks... take Gilham, Gillies or Delaney for one year and get it done next year (if required and we dont unearth a gem in the draft)

Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
Don't think it comes into it too much. Tipping he gets paid a crapload more to pay footy than she does to play netball. The reality for most couples is that if one is clearly going to earn a lot more thatn the other, the main breadwinner's career normally takes precedence - it's common sense.st.dave wrote:So apparently a couple of days ago Brown got engaged to his girlfriend who plays netball for West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championship.

If we are offering the guy $350k per year to play football, do you honestly reckon that his fiance's netball career will come before that. Wouldn't be surprised if we were trying to organise his missus a gig with a Melbourne based netball team....

His missus has been offered the other HBF in lieu of Gran
“Yeah….nah””
Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
Did a bit of research...
His fiancé is Shea Bolton. She is contracted to play for the West Coast Fever in 2013.
She is originally from Melbourne and in August there was speculation of her moving back to play with the Vixens, but eventually signed a 1 year contract extension with the Fever.

no way in the world would anyone give up 25 and 26 for brown to get back another pick in the 40's
if that happens this bloke must be the biggest superstar running around in the seconds that cant get a game in the firsts...ever!
Yep, agree with that. If Brown is worth the sheep station, why couldnt he get a game. West Coast playing games with us.

Nope, Gran.Ralphy wrote:is this meant to say gram?Teflon wrote:His missus has been offered the other HBF in lieu of Gran

If this is right, or close to it, I would be very happy.True Believer wrote:Close but whispers are 49 not 47, with that coming for Ray from Melb. Plus 47 out to Hawks for Gilhamsax wrote:The more I think about it I think it will be quite complex & involve 2nd & 3rd round upgrade's for the Eagles.
If it happens I think it will look more like this.
WCE receive Cripps, 26 & 47
Saints receive Brown, 41 & 62
Reckon we could end up like this:
Have: Lee, Hickey, Brown, Gilham 25, 41, 46
Don't have: BJ, Cripps, Ray, 12, 13
Will effectively have changed out flankers/utilities for talls and some pick shuffles.
Hopefully after this year some sanity is restored to the draft and it finally won't be the property of one or two teams (so a first round pick will actually be somewhere from 1 to 18 for everyone).
Sainter for life.

Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
We wouldn't bother with Gilham if we do get Brown. I'm not sure why we're enquiring about Gilham anyway, as he seems to be another third tall defender rather than a FB or CHB - doesn't offer anything more than Simpkin except a horrible injury history and he's 28.

Unless we are trading out one our existing players?

What pick do you think Cripps would be worth on the open market?
A pick in the early 30's..?

Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
Maybe go Cripps for 41 and wait a year for Brown to come out of contract and walk to us where we can bend West Coast right over the table. Consider it the one deal done over two years.

A lot can happen in a year though. Dont think we should wait a year.B W and R all over wrote:Maybe go Cripps for 41 and wait a year for Brown to come out of contract and walk to us where we can bend West Coast right over the table. Consider it the one deal done over two years.

If he nominates for the draft I wouldn't mind seeing a video apology for making a mockery of being given the number 35 jumper.SaintWodonga wrote:https://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle ... fault.aspx

Re: Cripps and P.26 for Brown?
I am shocked that WC are playing such hardball. End of the day McIntosh, Dawes, Delaney, Campbell, Martin & Ray are or were all contracted players being sought by opposition clubs due to limited opportunities! Surely WC are aware of this.
I get it they see him playing when Glass retires, what happens in 3 years time if he retires then. Thanks Browny, you've been a loyal servant playing in the WAFL, but at 27, we are afraid you aren't quite as good as this 19 year old we recruited last year...
I get it that they don't have to trade, but seriously at least entertain the thought. But for our sake, I'd love to see a plan B. Anyone think its possible to package what is likely to become a few picks in the 40s for a pick 30 or so?
