Twenty five and twenty six are hit and miss.
Its Goddard and 12 for Lee and Hickey
We know what Goddard is and you should get a good player with 12...
Hickey and Lee are the net result.. the rest is speculative

Brian from BF St Kilda board broke the news. Not in the media yet.
The deal, which has yet to be officially lodged with the AFL, is also expected to involve a swap of later picks, with the Saints receiving picks No. 26 and 47 and the Suns receiving 37 and 57.
So that is not as attractive
Why would Suns want 57?

Re: Welcome to the St Kilda FC Tom Hickey
Can see out first draft pick being early 40's - not entirely pleased.
Hickey - who looks like Big Ben with a tan - would wanna be good.
Thankfully we're filling the gaping Backman (surely they're using picks gained from this to get Brown) and 2nd Ruck needs - but where is our next genuine Gun coming from?
Going to really want to see Curren and perhaps Seb Ross stepping up and adding depth to that ageing midfield.
Having said that though - where did the Premiers' guns come from??

Brian also mentioned a player considered top 15? Any word on what he is talking about as thats been missed in the Hickey excitement.
Considering our recruiting, what are the chances of a certain Satnav company coming on board with some sponsorship dollars???

Love the positivity! What I saw of him looked good.Verdun66 wrote:Saw Hickey in a game last season and thought that the Suns had a superstar in the making. Remember thinking that we didn't have anyone like that on the horizon. Can't remember what game it was, but he was everywhere.

Re: Welcome to the St Kilda FC Tom Hickey
This decision is very worrying.
What the St Kilda brains trust has decided is that Hickey in terms of value to the team can be equated with Brendan Goddard because that is the compensatory pick we've used to get him.
I share the views of many others and hope he turns out to be the superstar that Watters and Pelchen think he is going to be.
Clearly they rate him very highly indeed.
I personally don't think that the form he has displayed so far for the Suns warrants comparison with Goddard. Far from it. But that is the way the St Kilda brains trust must see it.
Either way it is a huge call.
I can't remember reading anything on this forum or in the daily press that suggests Hickey was worth a first round pick. His value was always given in the 20s.
Maybe Pelchen and Watters took a good look at the up and coming kids and didn't think any of them were worth pick 13.
I guess at the end of the day you have got to trust their judgement.
I just hope they got it right.

I think im happy at this, only time will truly tell.
He does have crazy eyes ( a bit like Gards had ). I like that!!
Will have a couple of fresh faces really pushing for selection in 2013.
Hope they make the most of their chances and comming to the home of AFL.

Harry Taylor is a pretty good player (Maybe not champion, but then again how many KPD's are considered champions)plugger66 wrote:bigcarl wrote:On what do you base these doubts?plugger66 wrote: Lets hope GC have let go a champion because I have my doubts a 21 year old WAFL player will be one.
I base it on facts. When was the last 21 year old to come out of a state league and become a champion?
Michael Barlow (Pre broken leg was on track to superstardom-had many thinking brownlow prospects)
Zorko (came from nowhere, now up there in terms of midfielders going around)
J Pod (not so much now, but was the no.1 key forward in 2010 and for most of 2011)
and then the next echelon
Mzungu
Saad
Duigan
Sam Gibson
Tory Dickson
Leigh Spurr
John Giles

Yes you want your top picks to become stars but at the same time if you can come away with 3-4 afl standard players per draft (maybe .5 of a player per year becoming a star) you're doing well. Mature aged recruits in the last few years are having a higher hit rate (at least in terms of immediate impact) and some are becoming stars or close to it. I reckon if one of Lee and Hickey ends up being an above average afl player our trades have been net gains. Losing Goddard was bad, but obviously was somewhat out of our hands...if we end up with 5 afl standard players out of this draft we've done really well. At the moment we have Hickey (who should), Lee (who on this years wafl form sounds more likely than not), 25, 26?, 37 and 46? or 57 which gives us a decent chance at achieving just that (plus rookie upgrades curren?, dunell? who both look likely types)
oh when the saints

Still think we should send Ray to Melb for Martin & 49. On-trade that to Bris for Pick 33. Send Cripps, 33 & 47 to WCE for Brown.

Re: Welcome to the St Kilda FC Tom Hickey
Is Hickey the dude that the commentators, in GC's first year, were raving about how he is such a raw talent, athletic freak, non-football-background could-be-anything ruckman etc?
I recall they had a player in that mould - who was at the least a tall but probably a ruck - who I saw do some pretty great things for a big guy. Roved a pack in the forward line or something - took a decent grab.
Serious question.

Not quite... we also get pick 26 for 37 upgrade and pick 47 for 57 upgrade...What the St Kilda brains trust has decided is that Hickey in terms of value to the team can be equated with Brendan Goddard because that is the compensatory pick we've used to get him.
So, time will tell whether we use 26 and 47 well, and whether Hickey has a good career...
History will be the judge

NFI idea mate. Picks and Cripps for Brown is what I think we'll see. We badly need a Back and WCE ain't letting Brown go cheaply.

Seriously.
To be honest red...given my knowledge....1-8 plus add Viney/Daniher..........................throw a blanket over 11-30
13 might seem too much but 13 in this draft could also be ordinary.
Lynch was our last 13
WE DO GET AN upgrade to 26 from 40 something

He's still young but atleast he's had a couple of years in the system. They'll get games into him and he'll be prime in 3 years.
