Sam Fisher to GC for Pick 2 (rumour)
Just heard a strong rumour from a usually very reliable source - anyone else heard of this?
God I hope its not true!

I love Sam Fisher but pick 2 for a 30yo would be unprecedented in VFL/AFL history and a massive win for us.MrCordz wrote:Just heard a strong rumour from a usually very reliable source - anyone else heard of this?

Put it this way - you get 1 or maybe 2 years more to love Sam versus 10-12 years of loving the new bloke we get with pick 2.

I suppose but getting rid of champions can upset the fabric of the club

Particularly those who have really done everything right and become fantastic role models.MrCordz wrote:I suppose but getting rid of champions can upset the fabric of the club
A lot easier to part with talented blokes if they have a flaw, particularly a character flaw (say a Fevola)

Plugger was a champion
Bally was a champion
BJ was close to a champion
All left & the club went/ goes on. Players are much more pragmatic about leaving & being traded than supporters... our senior players would appreciate the need to get top line young talent into the club & it would be business as usual if someone like Chips was traded.
The club would be absolutely mad not to consider such as offer strongly.

We'd bite their arm off.
Won't happen.

Re: Sam Fisher to GC for Pick 2
Maybe should change the thread title to include 'rumour'....thought it was a done deal when I saw this

Noone is 'getting rid' of anyone. Might be an adult and amicable decision reached by both parties.MrCordz wrote:I suppose but getting rid of champions can upset the fabric of the club
We have plenty of fabric at the club now but we dont have anyone young and hip to wear the threads! No point making garments with noone to wear them!
If you dont move forward in this game/business you are moving backwards.

"GREATER Western Sydney has placed its early draft picks back on to the trade table. Having angered rival clubs after amassing picks 1, 2, 3, 12 and 13 in next month's national draft, the Giants are now offering to trade the bulk of those picks for experienced star players.
Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni last night confirmed he had attempted to trade an early pick with one club yesterday, only to be told the player was off limits.
''Other than pick one, I'm happy to talk about anyone for any of the other picks,'' he said. ''We'd be happy to trade the picks, but you'd want to get a very good player in return.''

Silvagni threw the picks back on the table as the trade period entered its second week with no deals being reached. With 10 days remaining, clubs already have admitted this year's three-week exchange timetable is too long"

Plugger was a champion no doubt...all time leading goal kicker, Brownlow, 5 times All Australian, 4 times coleman medallist, 2 B&Fs. The other two far from it.
Bally was a good ordinary player...certainly no champ...could win the ball but couldn't kick it over a tin can...1 B&F which he tied with Baker, 1 x All Australian (same year) and a premiership with Filth.
BJ...great player...twice All Australian.
As for the number 2 pick I'd take it in a heartbeat. He's 30. No 2 picks last ten years: Harley Bennell, Coniglio, Trengrove, Naitanui, Cotchin, Gumbleton, Dale Thomas, Roughead, Walker, Wells.

Or it is complete crap like Frawley coming to us. I heard a rumour Rhys wants to go home and PA have offered us their second pick.

Re: Sam Fisher to GC for Pick 2 (rumour)
There is no way i could allow this to fly (if i had the call). Sam Fischer is absolutely vital just in terms of structure. He has been a fantastic team player 4 our club since i can remember. Sam is much more effective than Bj 4 instance and would leave our backline badly exposed if he wasn't there. I can see him playing on for another 2 years and successfully ending his career @ St.Kilda. I bet GC wouldn't bother trying to get this adea airborne with the likes of Coll... or Hawth 4 instance. Losing Bj to deeper pockets elsewhere has been a blow to our defensive options/ depth but jettisoning Chips too would be crazy. Pick 2 could be another Bj 4 instance and we would be a long time waiting 4 results or he may also decide to walk as a 'free agent' too.
I think we should not abandon loyalty to those players that have held the fort and been very instrumental in getting us so close to success.
Yes i'd like pick 2. But this type of gamble is unconscionable.
Don't trade out champion players!
After Rooey and Hayes i'd have Chips as our most important guiding influence in the team.
Hope we get Brown and hope he could be good too but i wouldn't be getting rid of Chips and then hopin.
GO CHIPS!
GO SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
