how do you make Trade period more tedious?
Hard to think how the AFL could make it worse. They have actually drawn out a process that was already pretty fraught with uncertainty, and added boredom into the mix along with stupidity, by overlapping the FA [period which constipated the whole process.
At least you used to have an eventful week, and it was over. Now it drags on interminably.
winge, winge

What's the rush? Most other trade periods in sports around the world go for a lot longer.
I'd rather the club make patient calculated decisions, rather than rush it all and make a bad trade because they only had a week.

there really obviously isn't any rush.Saintersss wrote:What's the rush? Most other trade periods in sports around the world go for a lot longer.

With the FA overlap....there isn't anything much.
Waiting a week for the inevitable, just a waste of time. In the meantime, other teams not waiting on FA compensation are free to deal while we sit on our hands

Yes but there is a significant higher number of teams to look over and players to take into account.Saintersss wrote:Most other trade periods in sports around the world go for a lot longer.
We only need 1 week of FA and 2 weeks of trading with no crossover

FA actually stands for f**k all. Which is pretty much the AFL's compensation for us.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

The delay of the compo pick decision is a clear disadvantage to some clubs (this year us, obviously), and will most likely get scrapped in coming seasons as the cob webs are blown out...
We have our hands tied, unable to go for trades, due to the unallocated pick.. Every chance we lost out on Caddy due to this... Personally, I dont mind not getting him, but its a clear example of where it falls down...

Yep because those clubs dont think we will get a good pick and trade early so they get a less pick. Makes sense. And of course we may have got Caddy. Our pick was worse theN geelongs.

Isn't the pick the cats gave up dependent on where they finish next year?plugger66 wrote:Sobraz wrote:The delay of the compo pick decision is a clear disadvantage to some clubs (this year us, obviously), and will most likely get scrapped in coming seasons as the cob webs are blown out...

I think all free agents should have a last man standing fight. Bare Knuckle no weapons. Clubs pick in reverse order from winner to first knockout. Anyone traded for draft picks shold fight the guy that Emma Quayle sees in that spot.

Here is how I think the free agency/draft period should be handled:
Free Agency starts on Monday of week 1. Last day for offers to be made is the following Monday to allow 3 days til the Wednesday. It then finishes at midday on the Wednesday. Break for lunch and the AFL can work out the compo picks. Clubs then reconvene knowing exactly what picks each other have and commence trade period at 1 or 2 on the Wednesday and go through until the following Friday. Bang all done within two weeks

Re: how do you make Trade period more tedious?
How, in a 4 week period, the AFL can make FA overlap with trade week is an embarrassment.
There used to be one week to sort out trades. ONE WEEK FOR ALL TRADING. So the AFL now decides to make the whole process run for not 2 or 3 but 4 weeks. You may say that's fine 1 or 2 weeks of FA then a couple of weeks of trading after all the FA compo picks have been sorted out. That will work. But no. Lets run them together and F##k the whole thing up. Maybe the premiers could actually have a week to celebrate their amazing porformance.
My 4 year olds kindergarden teacher could have run it better than the AFL. Lindsay, the drunk at my local pub, could have also done a better job. We are 3 weeks in and clubs still don't know what picks they are trading.
It's a circus.

Everytime a trade goes through that Caro has not predicted she has to remove an item of clothing. Maybe not tedious but certainly disturbing.

Re: how do you make Trade period more tedious?
The Free Agency period finishes tomorrow. It feels like it started on Boxing Day.
You can bet that we wont be told the pick numbers until Monday. The geniuses finish the Trade Period at 2pm, but no, the FA period finishes at 5pm. The precious ones would have knocked off for the weekend by then.

But, no the AFL is against us...
