this about sums it up- Baum

Post: # 1273262Post saintbrat »

At the end of this excruciating process - I am taking a punt and presuming it does end - we are left with a mish-mash of players who have switched to the clubs of their choice, or switched to clubs not of their choice, or tried to switch clubs and failed, or tried to avoid a switch of clubs and succeeded, or tried to go home and been diverted, kinda like Tiger Woods. Some go because their new club is trying to win the premiership, some because their old club is trying to win the premiership, and some because their club is not yet, or still, trying to win the premiership.

But all of them say they ''couldn't be happier'', and all their agents say they ''couldn't be happier'', and all their clubs, new and old, say they ''couldn't be happier''. Meantime, a raft of other players are politely sacked, mostly having not played a game, but all unanimously declared by their clubs to have made ''a valuable contribution'' as they shut the door behind them.

Yeah, this 'newspeak' that everyone involved in footy uses these days is, to quote our notorious ex-coach "monotously boring."

It is true. Really it's the same for us supporters:-
players we end up with ,we hope will be an improvement,
players we lose weren't good enough,or were lured by a pot of gold,
and any delistings- thanks for the effort ,
love em or hate em while they're wearing a saints jumper we'll support them.

Yeah I like the way the Age get a bit random with their sport journalism rather than just having a couple of ex AFL stars complain about the modern game or some hack journos writing speculative baseless crap designed to cause anxiety in the fans.

agree it's nice to read it from a completely differant angle
Tim Pekin and Rob Murphy were and are entertaining to read- froma players perspective

where as Llyody tries to be a ' serious' commentator and doesn't succeed.

Lloydy is a buffoon, a hell of a good FF in his playing days, but a buffoon as a media performer.

Football is a brutal industry. Competition is fierce!

You have to deal with it...

Exactly.
And isn't it great we finally have a full month of trading/FA?

At long last the clubs have plenty of time to make moves. Much better than one week of frantic madness.

And he dislikes the Saints because his mob never made the Grand Final during Eades era.We kept knocking them off.....

They've only made it to a VFL-AFL Grand Final twice ..... 1954 and 1961

All the players that are currently homeless should go to Whitten oval and beg for a spot...

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Quoted for truth. "My team has lost heaps more grand finals than your team, so there!" said no one, ever.

Worst ever special comments man was the apallingly stage managed Brett Kirk. It looked like they got him on the dope lit some incense and got him to say his chakras on the oval. Embarrassing.

The Scraggers are nothings.

We are slightly better than them. Fact!

Agreed. Total buffoon. Not enough between the ears.

I'd be surprised if he could make a comment without first throwing blades of grass into the air.

It usually is a bunch of crappy players changing clubs with a few good ones thrown in.

The crappy players make bugger all difference to their new sides and the clubs that got rid of the crappy players bring in other crappy players anyway.

This is why we did so well to get Saad and Milera for a small pick downgrade. Utterly fantastic.
