Who's our new go to man ?
Over the last few years, Goddard has been our go to man.
Be it across half back, or even looking for him for a pot shot at goal from outside 60, Goddard with his long accurate kicking has been the preferred choice.
So who will be our new go to man ?
Will they groom Sippos, or is there someone else more suitable for the role ?

It did look as though Sippos was being groomed to be our new quarterback is the latter part of last season.

Re: Who's our new go to man ?
i actually hope it will be a little more unpredictable in 2013 with a range of players able to lead up to take the ball out of the defensive zone. Dunnell, Siposs and Milera seemed to get dragged up to help out and get the ball moving forward. Gram will get a lot more time as a running type rebounder and I would say we will probably be less reliant on static ball use from the backline next year and beyond. Guys like Lee and Stanley should be able to get a lot higher up and help out when needed as they are both very athletic and mobile. We seem to be heading towards a more mobile team with less stop and go footy.

Gwilt is a very good long kick - something he doesn't use enough ( I think) - maybe he can be more mobile and able to go forward as well - as I have posted elsewhere I think there is also room for Simpkin to become a utility - tough as nails and with 1 more preseaon under his belt will hopefully be developing an engine
Re: Who's our new go to man ?
If we get a monster full back, that will enable Gwilt to go back to that role he played in 2010.

We have many other players similar to Goddard, obviously not as good but he can be replaced a lot easier than roo or big mac. Between Gram, Gilbert, Gwilt, Clarke, Siposs, etc hopefully 3-4 of them will step up and offest the loss of BJ.

Or he was. Last year his long-kick was disastrous as when he went long he had no control and direction.saint6709 wrote:Gwilt is a very good long kick - something he doesn't use enough ( I think) -
Kicking in from Fb often resulted in the ball soon sailing back over his head and through the big sticks.
Lets hope that that in 2013, and being more recovered from his knee injury, that he regains his once superb kicking skills.

I think Sam Fisher is the one. Very intelligent footballer, good disposal, can take a mark and could drift down forward.
Assumes we get Brown who takes the 'gorilla' forward and Gwilt, Simpkin and Gilbert take the other talls.

Goddard the go to man ? Try Lenny Hayes or Roo being the go to men and recently Milne ..

I don't think you understood the question, or you are choosing to interpret it differently.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:Goddard the go to man ? Try Lenny Hayes or Roo being the go to men and recently Milne ..
Re: Who's our new go to man ?
Really need a full back because that frees up Chips to be that person. With Siposs developing, what we really need is a speedy rebounding half back. Perhaps we'll stick with Gram for this next year and aim to pick up a youngster in the draft, or through free agency next year.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: Who's our new go to man ?
Players with good skills who are good at reading the play. I like what I see with both Sippos and Newnes. Both highly skilled and seem to have the footy smarts to play the role.

Success will come by not having a go to man..
You need men...and many options ...both forward and back.
You need to be reliant not on a few...
Better team balance and structure. That is the path to success.
