There is a major problem with all this talk of Cripps + whatever for Brown.
West Coast have stated they don't want to lose Brown and also have given no indication that they have any interest in Cripps whatsoever.
The fact that Cripps wants to play for WC is only relevant if WC want him.
Can anybody give me one good reason why WC would be chasing Cripps now that they have Wellingham?
So far I have seen no indication that they would.

Nobody outside WA will draft him because he is back in WA and not moving anywhere.
WC draft him with a late pick.
I don't think Cripps has any currency for us at all and WC know it. He has walked out and gone. Really bad situation for us.
Have I missed something?
Everything's a gamble for clubs and players.

Yes Cripps could go to the Draft and non WA clubs may decide not to touch him. But how long does West Coast (or Freo) wait to call out his name? Late in the Draft, as clubs struggle to recognise any of the names remaining, one of them may decide he's better than anything else on offer and that maybe they'll give him a shot. They may reason that he'll be able to be pursuaded to play rather than stand out of the game for two years.

Unlikely? Maybe. Inpossible? No.

i doubt essendon would take 43 for Tate Pears. He was pretty highly rated once and would still be worth more than 43 you'd think. Good deal for West Coast though.

We must not rate him much I thought we may take a look at Pears. He was good early but haven't seen much of him lately. He was rated along with hurley as the future spine of the Bombers.

Why don't we just offer 24 for Pears and say stick it to the Eagles?
If they come out with a 2nd rounder for Cripps we insist that he is worth their 1st rounder or Brown.

West Coast actually have DEFINITELY said that they wanted Jamie Cripps.

go back to straight swap for kobe Stevens and get Pears from the Dons. There would be some kind of natural justice if we grabbed a gun from them and Goddard failed to live up to the potential that 600k per year suggests.

Micale can reprogram him so he's not s*** at the academy.

Ouch lucky we didn't try to match that- we would have needed a mortgage on Seaford and moorabbin.

If we can't WC Mitch Brown, isn't there a Mitch Brown at Geelong and another up and coming defender that Neil Balme said may have to look elsewhere for opportunities should Geelong get Jarrod Rivers?

Mitch Brown from Geelong is more a key forward than a defender

What about this...

Brown/Stevens for Cripps and 34, then
38 from Eagles to Dons for Pears.

Bombers get pick 38.
Saints get Brown/Stevens
Eagles get Pears/Cripps.

Fair for all concerned IMO.

WC can say what they like - if they won't play Brown, then he will walk.
Cripps has walked, but he won't last until 38 in the draft - Freo will grab him.

We'll get Brown, they'll get Cripps and possibly pick 34 (although I would like to see us play hardball with that too).

He may walk but it will be next year. Anyway like you that deal will probably get done. There is still 2 weeks to go in the trade period. Far to long to panick about trades not getting done yet.

I agree. Thats why I am shocked Caddy was done so early, would habe made clubs sweat and give up more... anyway... I would have thought WC could entertain a trade this year especially considering his price will be a lot higher this year than next when he can walk, having said a lot can happen in a year. Gillies wasn't allowed to go to Hawks last year via trade and now there is talk of him being delisted... oh, and last year we told SOS we were definitely not interested in trading BJ when he enquired about him with a year to go... look where that sort of loyalty got us...

Mitch Brown is still no certainty to be a good player is he??
Been in system for about 6 yrs and only played 51games (i think).
The West Coast Drug Lords only rate him as their 4th best tall defender and most time he's either injured or cant get a game.
Who knows, maybe Brown will blossom at another club?? Its still a bit of a risk so i hope we dont offer the world to get him.
But then again he'd surely work out better than our Jesse Smith gamble

If u want to be really aggravated , go to big footy trade thread and read wc supporters discuss this trade like they are the ones weighing up the decision. Shitting on cripps and lauding brown as the second coming.
Like their defense is champagne and ours is chateau superbie. Wasn't too long ago we had the best defense of all time and they were s***. But I remember.

Then why was he drafted at pick 24?

Also, Lucas Cook was "rated" pick 12 that year. He's just been delisted. Maybe the "rating" before the draft means very little.

In testing he rated as top 3 in the overall which rates on everything from attitude to physical prowess and skills. I don't know what more people expected from him. Ross played him until he was injured then he pretty much came in and continued his development as expected, built up his frame and engine and continued to improve on the field including putting his body on the line more.

i think a few people are cut he wants out. Someone told me he has a girl friend who won't leave Perth and they want to be together so he wants out. Nothing to do with the club just life. In three years they will probably break up and he'll wonder why he did it but what can you do. Good luck to him. If the Brown deal doesn't get done I'm happy to take a punt on Kobe Stevens as a straight swap. I rate young Cripps and think he will break into the WCE line up eventually but will probably be in the WAFL for a year or two.
