Saints Should Target Ben Jacobs from Port Before Caddy?
"Port is also facing the departure of players to free agency and homesickness - defender Troy Chaplin and Matt Thomas have been linked with Richmond, while Ben Jacobs is considering a move home to Melbourne."
Personally I think we should target Ben Jacobs from Port Adelaide before Caddy.
Out of contract, wants to go home to Melbourne & don't think we'd have to give up as much!
Big left foot, strong overhead & has shown a bit.
Had 20+ in a few games this year before having some ankle issues. He had surgery at years end (But who didn't)
Taken at pick #16 in 2010 draft from Sandringham, Was an all-Australian at U'18 level.
Ben Jacobs
DOB - 9/1/92. H - 185cm, 82kg. Has played 26 games.
Career Stats: 16.3 disp, 3.5 marks, 2.1 tackles, 0.2 goals
Josh Caddy
DOB - 28/9/92. H - 186cm, 82kg. 24 games
Career Stats: 15 disp, 3.7 marks, 2.7 tackles, 0.7 goals

Wouldn't be touching and PA players apart from top 2 or 3. If this kid can't get a game at PA not sure he'll add much value. That said, I don;t know an awful lot about him??

He had glandular fever at the start of last year which delayed the start of his career, but still managed 12 games.
This year he played the first 14 but had some ankle issues that kept him out at the end of the year.
He has topped 20 posessions 7 times in his 26 games.
He finished this year in the SANFL which included being SANFL player of the round in Round 17, having 29 disposals, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 4 inside 50's, 4 rebound 50's, 1 goal vs Central District. (He even hurt a Gowans twin)
He then had ankle surgery at the end of the season.
Here's some vision of him.

Sounds like a player, could be a smokey at any Vic side next year with an injury free season and some opportunity.
If the price is right then it could be too good a deal to pass up if the club have him on the radar?
Watters is all about opportunity.

Unless we are trading for needs I would prefer to keep our picks and hit the draft.

I don't know how good or not Jacobs is....but you build you list these days by looking for the best players that suit your needs.
Quite a number will not be "names" already. ie Saad.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Good call, based on those stats is virtually identical to caddy, but is likely to be cheaper and possibly more upside as has been restricted by illness / injury.. Having said that our needs are for key talls so unless it was for a late pick I don't think we should draft either.

I like the look of him, who said he doesn't have good skills? He looks like he spots up players and has good penetration and vision.

Is no good at all, soft as butter. We dont want or need him.
Re: Saints Should Target Ben Jacobs from Port Before Caddy?
I hope we have a recruiting depart. as good as Sydney. The trick will be identifying those players clubs have in surplus that are looking for more opportunities and have a lot of upside such as Kennedy and Mumford. The Tigers with Maric and the Crows with Sauce are other good examples. My concern with poaching players from clubs from the bottom of the table like Port is that they cannot get consistent games at a lower ranked team so they must be pretty s***, really.

"AT least three Melbourne-based clubs - St Kilda, Essendon and Richmond - are chasing Port Adelaide defender Ben Jacobs who wants a go-home trade.
St Kilda head of football Chris Pelchen today confirmed the Saints interest in the first-round draftee - and noted the perfect fit for Jacobs at his club.
"There is interest there - and we have spoken to his management (Paul Connors),'' said Pelchen.
"But we've not moved forward to discuss a trade with Port Adelaide.
"We know Ben wants to return home, as does his girlfriend. He is a Beaumaris boy so St Kilda is the closest club to home.''
Jacobs, 20, met with new Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley on Sunday as the new sales pitch to keep him at Alberton took new dimension."

Completely agree that we should target BJ ahead of Caddy...pick 24 should be shipped off for BJ asap, and then 34 for Hickey-potentially plus a clarke or even a pick we get back for Ray
oh when the saints

Here's an idea.. Let's keep pick 13 and get a 10 year palyer in the club!

Try getting him for 24.... Would be worth it.
Re: Saints Should Target Ben Jacobs from Port Before Caddy?
If anything he seems less trouble! Seriously Caddy seems a little precious to me, too far to drive to seafood, only wont to go to certain clubs, Jacob other other hand seems content to be a footballer.

I missed where he said it was to far to Seaford. Was that in the paper or on radio?
