Jamie Cripps-Mitch Brown? !!

Post: # 1270949Post Eastern »

We're in the market for a Key Defender and Crippsy wants to go home. This seems to create a situation where SAINTS & West Coast can do business. Could it be a straight swap? Or could it mean that there is a swapping of Draft Picks as well?

Remember, for a deal to be done it has to be appealing to both sides !!

Been mentioned elsewhere but its been reported that West Coast will not trade Brown.

I personally belive if Brown wants out and we can present an attractive enough offer to the Eagles we could shake him free.

I'd be surprised if West Coast would do that deal. A key defender is much less replaceable than a midfielder. Brown is one injury away from their senior side, but Cripps would be sitting about four back waiting for an opportunity. Not sure why they'd trade Brown unless they were absolutely forced to.

If we miss out on Brown we should concentrate on Tom Clurey or Tanner Smith in the draft. Said to be the best big defenders in the draft, other than Lachlan Plowman, who at 191cm is probably as bit short for what we want..
Other than those there is Harley Walshe, 197cm, who got the better of Joe Danaher and Tim Membrey when he played on them recently.

Brown is contracted another year. I think we have zero chance of getting him unless we overpay with a player+pick (Cripps+2nd rounder)

It is from Sports Lies First but this report says Brown has requested a trade to St Kilda.

If Hutchy said it there's no chance of it happening. More chance of me playing CHB and I'm 178cm.

Why? - I would say straight swap is a fair deal.
Mitch brown only played 8 games for the Eagles - he isnt in their best 22. Cripps is a high pick and only 20yo.

Cripps + 2nd rounder would be a massive loss for us.

Straight swap is fair - and probably a small loss for us actually. Cripps is worth a pick 30 in the draft. Brown probably a 40.

Brown 51 game in 6 seasons, two thirds of those games were losses. Not exactly setting the world on fire over there.

exactly. i want him and happy to get him. but sheesh - lets not pay too much for this guy in terms of trades and $. hes a good tough fringe battler with some injuries. hes not better than cripps and possibly not as good.

No way will they agree to that. A second rounder plus Cripps would get it done. A third rounder plus Cripps would be a steal.

Its because he is a KPP. Look what we just paid for unproven FF.

And a KPP who opportunities are limited at WC acording to Worsfold

Straight swap seems fair to me given the age difference as well

As for the unproven FF - we pratically traded Goddard for a 21 year old state league gun + a second round draft pick + a third round draft pick + salary cap space - looks like a pretty good deal to me!!

What is wrong with being behind a decent player. i have no idea if Brown will be any good but I do know Schofield is good. Lets face it we dont need a star, we need someone who will do a job on the big guys. If we get him hopefully he is the guy. I still say we wont get him for a straight swap with Cripps. Hope I am wrong or hope it is pick 43 plus Cripps.

Schofield is a jet, would be in the top 10 defenders in the competition this year.

Cripps + Second Round Draft Pick is fair

Cripps is a very average player, Mitch Brown is a KPP and there aren't to many of those around....you can find plenty of skinny kids who don't play a position

I respectfuly disagree

Cripps OR 2nd rounder.. and not the 24 we gort ftom GWS, our original 2nd rounder.

Players over 23 years of age and NOT in their teams best 22 are simply not worth much in trading week.
The fact is, he is not in their team. He simply cannot be that good, and never do players not in a starting eleven get more than late draft picks, regardless of position.
Wilkes is a KPP, but that does not mean we can get much if we trade him. Quality also counts and that is judged by games played and performance.

Disagree also.

Cripps is a long way from average, he hasn't got a position only becuase he can play forward and back. His skills and speed are well above average, and the position thing can come later. Mitch Brown is a one positon player and slower by the sound of it, so it all evens out. I'd certainly not entertain any more than Super Duper's idea.

All I'll say is, pick a defender that plays well against Roo's cousin, Jack.

The last two or three years we've played Richmond, Jack decides to get into form and kick 6 or more goals.

If Brown has done well on him in the past, then get him, otherwise find another defender.

I don't want to see the Jack in a box jumping all over the place

I'm also concerned with Brown's knees, I know he's done one (like his brother)
