ST KILDA DAY 5 WRAP:
The Sainters have lost one of their best players in recent times, and it's a bit tough for plenty of supporters to take given Goddard will now play for Essendon next season.
But what we must applaude is Scott Watters' "Team First" approach in all of this.
"At the end of the day, the team is always bigger than the player, and that is how we will conduct things at St Kilda Football Club".
Stern words from a man who has only been in the job for 12 months, but nonetheless, I love it.
We won't really ever know whether the saints could have matched BJ's asking price, or whether they thought that letting him go to set the standard was the better thing to do.
Perhaps they wanted to free up some cash?
Perhaps it was a little bit of all three.
Regardless, it's done, and it'll hurt for quite a while to come to see him run around in another teams Colours, but free agency was set up to reward the player, not the clubs and supporters.
In hindsight, it's a case of "out with the old, in with the young" for the saints, who will now not only receive very good compensation for letting him go, but they now are also cashed up and ready to throw punches in the trade and free agency period over the course of the remaining 2 weeks.
The saints will have assessed the areas they need to address at the trade table, and we should see the saints fly out of the blocks first thing on Monday morning.
WHO'S COMING IN:
Saints fans are still hopeful they can snag Josh Caddy, who'd be a welcome addition given Lenny Hayes won't be around forever. The saints have got some very good users of the ball, that are predominately "outside" players, but Caddy would be part of the new breed of Saints, ready to take ownership of the club, after the "Lenny and Riewoldt era" is over.
He has leadership written all over him, and will be a solid player for the saints for the better part of the next decade.
Jon Giles from the giants has been strongly linked to the saints, who have made it known they'd like a bit of help for Big Ben McEvoy. Macca is a prime mover, but the saints want to manage him, given he's still young. Zac Clarke from Fremantle is another name being thrown about, as is Trent West from the cats, and Warnock from Carlton.
And then there is a pair of two young kids, that the saints have also been likened to. Ben Jacobs and Koby Stevens.
It the saints can get Stevens, Jacobs and Caddy, their midfield will be set for the next decade, especially given how well Armitage and Jack Steven have developed this year. There are some great players coming through the ranks, plenty of positives for the saints to look forward to.
It's as clear as crystal that what St Kilda really need is another big backmen. Alex Silgvani could be on the cards from Freo, and Mitch Brown could be pried from West Coast if the price was right.
WHO'S GOING OUT:
Apparent from BJ, Farryn Ray could be thrown up as trade bait, and the horrible rumour of Nick Dal Santo being worked into a trade, to me, is ludicrous. Raph Clarke will either be delisted or traded, and Jamie Cripps has indicated that he'd like to return to Perth, with West Coast his preferred option.
The saints still feel as though they can retain young Cripps, however if they lost him, Koby Stevens looms as the man on the Saints' radar.
Could Ray, Gram or Jones be used as bait in an attempt to rebuild the backline? It's anybody's guess, but one things for sure, Scott Watters' number one priority is making the Saints premiers, and if he honestly believes that Jones, Gram, Ray, even Dal aren't going to be apart of that next wave, he may find more use in trading them, in order to set up the future.

Re: Rumour Thread
I have heard from a couple of sources that Freo may be talking to CJ. One source may have a bit of knowledge the other is usually FoS.
Time will tell.
Time will tell.
I am still hurting from 71;
my gut churns thinking of 97;
2009 was agony,
2010a was a pleasure to watch only to be devastated by 2010 b.
It hurts barracking for the Saints

Want a laugh?
Eagles board on BF has us giving Cripps to them for pick 39 and pick 12 for Mitch Brown. Oh, and they are getting pick 27 for Stevens (possibly non-existant due to Hunter f/s)...
Now I though we were dellusional!
